World’s Greatest Shave On Friday 15 March I had my head shaved to raise awareness and funds for the Leukaemia Foundation by taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave at the school. This came about because I was going to shave my head in support of my dad who is losing his hair due to the chemotherapy he has been getting for a cancer that was discovered at the end of last year. Since I was going to shave my head anyway, I decided to do it and raise some much needed funds. On Friday during the assembly that was organised by the SRC, my dad and I had our heads shaved. Dad has been at our school for many celebrations throughout the years, when I was a student here, for his grandchildren and during many Harmony Days and fund raisers. He was overwhelmed by everyone’s support and shed a few tears from the emotion he felt as he had his head shaved. When it was my turn, as my ponytail was being cut, I too shed a few tears, not because of my hair, but because as I looked around the quad, I could not believe the atmosphere around us. Students, teachers and guests were so respectful at what was happening. I have had people tell me I was brave having my head shaved. I personally think the brave ones are the people who suffer from this terrible illness, any form of cancer and have to fight against it. I did this by choice, they, have no choice. I would like to thank everyone who contributed in making this such a special event by donating funds and helping to bring this issue out in the open. I originally set my target at $200, when that was reached I changed it to $500. On Monday morning we had raised over $2,400. The response from students, staff, parents and friends has been overwhelming. I didn’t imagine reaching such an amount. A special thanks to Elixir Day Spa at for providing Stacey Calder’s services as a hairdresser on the day.
