Strong trade continues for all on offer although the entry lacked numbers of premium quality butchers’ types. More cattle could have been sold to an increasing attendance of buyers. Top price per kilo was 220p for a Limousin x heifer from Mrs. J. Julian of Summercourt purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. A heavier 619kg Limousin x heifer stood next in line at 216p/kg for Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan selling for £1,337 to Mr. D.J. Moyle, Butcher of Beacon. Steers topped at £1,360 for a 701kg Limousin x from Messrs. W.H. & L.M. Williams & Son of Allet, also bought by J.V. Richards Ltd.

Another large entry of mainly quality cull cows included many beef x types as well as a considerable proportion which were not Farm Assured but still sold extremely well to a strong contingent of buyers. Premium this week came for a 781kg Charolais x cow down from Mr. R.S. Hopper of Poundstock selling at 149p/kg (£1,164) to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Overall top value was a big 936kg South Devon x from Messrs. D. Trewern & Son of St. Levan realising £1,198 to David King of Exeter. Dearest dairy at £940 was a 794kg Friesian from Mr. P.J. Harvey of Kea selling to Dawn West Devon; with the premium going to Messrs. Mitchell & Downing of selling theirs at 134p/kg to Mark Davey of Okehampton.

A bumper entry for the beginning of July sold to an increased audience of buyers with all types and quality selling well and a flying trade for the well-grown stronger sorts of all ages. Overall top at £1,165 was for an Aberdeen Angus x steer from Messrs. M.S. & C.A. Higman of St. Keyne. An entry of nine super young cattle from Mrs. B. Baxter of Porkellis 12-15½ months old were led by Charolais x steer pairs at £1,115 and £1,045, with a Limousin/South Devon x pair at £1,035. Mrs. Baxter’s two super 13½ month old Charolais x heifers also standing overall top at £1,000. Also over £1,000 were Hereford x steers for two vendors, with one at 17 months old from Mr. H. Stevens The Lizard at £1,020. Yearling steers from Mr. R.J. Geach of saw a Charolais x at £980 and Devon x make £815; with an 8 month old Simmental x steer from Messrs. L.J. Richards & Son of United Downs at £780. On the heifer side, last-Spring born ages a strong trade with Aberdeen Angus x £870 and British Blue x £845 for Messrs. D. Trewern & Son of St. Levan; and Limousin x pair at £775 for Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell.

This was closely followed by a five lighter 45.4kg lambs from the same farm at £109.50 and setting the premium at 241p/kg selling to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow; £109.50 also achieved by Messrs.
