National Activity: Initial attack activity: (86 ) New large incidents: 1 Large fires contained: 1 Uncontained large fires: *** 43 NIMOs committed: 0 Type 1 IMTs committed: 9 Type 2 IMTs committed: 14

Nationally, there are 35 fires being managed under a strategy other than full suppression. ***Uncontained large fires include only fires being managed under a full suppression strategy.

Two hundred twenty-five from the 23rd Engineer and 2-3 Battalion based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord are deployed in support of the Dixie Fire.

Two MAFFS from the 302nd Airlift ( Reserve), one MAFFS from the 153rd Airlift Wing (Wyoming ) and one from the ( Air National Guard) have been deployed to McClellan, CA to support wildland fire operations nationally.

One RC-26 aircraft with Distributed Real- (DRTI) capability and support personnel from the (Washington Air National Guard) and one RC-26 aircraft with Distributed Real-Time Infrared (DRTI) capability and support personnel from the 162nd Operations ( Air National Guard) have been deployed to Sacramento, CA in support of wildland fire operations. Also supporting these aircraft are eight ground controllers from multiple U.S. Air National Guard squadrons.

Fawn, Shasta-Trinity Unit, Cal Fire. IMT 1 (Cal Fire 4). Two miles northeast of Shasta Lake , CA. Timber and brush. Active fire behavior with short crown runs, torching and short-range spotting. Several communities, infrastructure and numerous residences threatened. Evacuations, area, road and trail closures in effect.

Caldor, Eldorado NF, USFS. IMT 2 (CA Team 12). Sixteen miles northeast of Plymouth, CA. Timber, light slash and brush. Moderate fire behavior with uphill runs, single torching and short-range spotting. Several communities, numerous structures and infrastructure threatened. Area, road and trail closures in effect.

Dixie, Butte Unit, Cal Fire. IMT 1 (CA Team 1), IMT 2 (SA Gold Team) and IMT 2 (RM Team ). Fifteen miles northeast of Paradise, CA. Timber, brush and light slash. Minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. Area, road and trail closures in effect.

River Complex (2 fires), Klamath NF, USFS. IMT 2 (CA Team 15). Nine miles southwest of Etna, CA. Timber and brush. Moderate fire behavior with group torching, backing and creeping. Several communities, numerous structures and infrastructure threatened. Evacuations, area, road and trail closures in effect.

Monument, Shasta-Trinity NF, USFS. Transfer of command from IMT 1 (NR Team 2) to IMT 1 (SA Red Team) will occur tomorrow. One mile southwest of Del Loma, CA. Timber and brush. Moderate fire behavior with isolated torching, flanking and backing. Community of Trinity Village, numerous structures and infrastructure threatened. Area, road and trail closures in effect.

McCash, Six Rivers NF, USFS. IMT 1 (AK Team 1). Fourteen miles northeast of Somes Bar, CA. Timber, closed timber and brush. Moderate fire behavior with backing, creeping and torching. Numerous structures threatened. Evacuations, area, road and trail closures in effect.

Predictive Services Discussion: A cutoff low will remain over southern California and northern Baja California. Westerly flow aloft will strengthen over the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, with weak ridging over the West away from the cutoff low. An upper low will slowly move eastward across the Great Lakes, with troughing extending over much of the eastern US and a cold front sliding east through the Appalachians. Above normal are expected for much of the West. Dry and breezy west-southwest are likely along the Sierra Front, in portions of the Cascade Gaps, interior Northwest, northern Great Basin, along and east of the Rockies in , and Wyoming amid downslope flow and stronger westerly flow aloft. Isolated to scattered are forecast across portions of far southern California, Arizona, and western New Mexico, with wetting most likely in east-central Arizona into west-central New Mexico over the higher terrain. Fatigue & Stress Health & First Aid

Accumulated (chronic) Fatigue is defined as fatigue from which normal rest does not produce recovery. Accumulated fatigue is often caused by extended periods of stress with inadequate recovery periods, which results in decreased productivity, compromised immune function, and reduced alertness. Fatigued workers perform poorly, behave carelessly, tolerate greater errors, and become inattentive. Chronic fatigue often results in increased stress, which may present itself through certain behavioral and physiological indicators, such as those described below:

Behavioral indicators:

• Decreased and low morale. • Increased irritability and .

Physiological indicators:

• Confusion, poor problem solving. • Poor abstract thinking. • Poor attention/decisions. • Poor concentration/memory. • Extreme emotional responses. • Social/behavioral changes.

Recommendations for chronic fatigue/stress are:

• Take longer periods of rest/recovery. • Ensure that workers are adequately rested before they begin shifts. • Provide periodic rest breaks to allow physical and mental recovery. • Alternate between heavy and light tasks. • Eat well-balanced meals regularly, with energy supplements during periods of high exertion. • Maintain hydration. • Ensure workers maintain good personal hygiene. • Maintain high standards of physical fitness and work capacity. • In extreme cases, personnel may need to be relieved of their duties.
