REGULATIONS

1. All animals must be the bona-fide property of the Exhibitor. 2. Entries will only be accepted if accompanied by the correct entry fee. 3. All entries, with the exception of horses, donkeys and the domestic section are to be in the Showground no later than 9.30am and remain until 3.30pm. Domestic section all entries to be displayed by 6.30pm on Friday evening and to remain until 4.30pm on Saturday. This will be strictly adhered to. 4. All animals bought into the Showground shall be subject to the orders, regulations and rules of the Association or Officers appointed by them. Cases of disobedience of orders will be reported to the Committee who reserve the right to disqualify a defaulter.

5. All animal exhibitors must have adequate third party insurance. 6. No unsound horse shall be eligible to win a prize. 7. Correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding hats Nos. PAS015, EN1384, ASTMF1163, that meet current safety standards, must be worn by children at all times when mounted. Also these safety hats must be worn by all riders when jumping.

8. In awarding the prizes to the cattle and sheep, the judges will be instructed to take into consideration their relative merits for breeding purposes.

9. Any person making a false entry or giving a wrong description will be disqualified from taking a prize if awarded, such prize and all lesser prizes in that class, passing to the animals following in order of merit, except in such cases as the Schedule Committee shall decide otherwise. 10. Exhibitors of Bulls over 10 months of age must ensure that two people accompany the bull at all times when competing or moving the animal to and from the cattle lines to the ring. No bulls born before 1st January 2015 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockperson Classes.

11. All cattle entered will be double tied and must be suitably trained. All sheep will be in pens. 12. The Schedule Committee reserve to themselves the right to withhold any prize, make any alterations they deem necessary and also to settle any protest or dispute that may arise. 13. Any person making a protest shall, within one hour from the time the class is judged, deposit £5 with the General Secretary and if the protest is not upheld the money shall be forfeited to the Association. Should a protest be lodged relative to the age of any animal the same will be decided by the relevant Society’s Herd Book or by the Association’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeon and Dentition Rules. 14. The Association will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury, which persons, stock or exhibits whatsoever may sustain, except where provided for in statute.

15. The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards. 16. The Showground will be open for the reception of implements and equipment on the day before the Show until 8.00pm.

Notes: All cattle entries must comply with DEFRA regulations in force at the time of the show. Liskeard Agricultural Show Holding Number 07/156/8002. All movements must be reported to the British Cattle Movement Service. Details will be sent with passes etc. for those who have entered. (Adhesive labels bearing the show site holding number are available.) All cattle must be double tied. Due to the changes to TB pre-movement testing exemptions no cattle can remain on the showground for longer than a 24 hour period.  The Association will make available to exhibitors a milking bail, kindly supplied by the Dairy Centre Ltd. Please could exhibitors bring their own milking units.  All cups should be signed for and collected from the Livestock Office after the Grand Parade.  Would exhibitors please ensure that they enter for Special Exhibitors Prizes on the entry form.  Classes may be amalgamated if there are fewer than three entries in each section. Exhibitors must live within the area marked on the map on page 11 to qualify for local classes and specials.

C33 The Holstein UK and Ireland offers a Championship rosette to the exhibitor of the female champion. The reserve will also receive a rosette. C34 The Holstein UK and Ireland also offers: a. A Best Exhibitor Bred rosette, to the exhibitor of the best Holstein bred by the exhibitor. b. A Best Udder rosette to the exhibitor of the Holstein with the best udder in the show. c. A Junior Champion rosette to the exhibitor of the best Holstein entry calved less than three years of age. C35 The Philip Gorman Memorial Trophy, presented by Angela Furness of Tregonnett, for the Best Heifer in Milk (winner of class 33). To be competed for annually. C36 A Perpetual Cup presented by the Cornish Holstein Club for the exhibitor gaining most points for prizes won in the Holstein Classes, with the exception of the group class. To qualify for entry, each exhibitor must be a member of the Cornwall Holstein Club and their herd is resident within the county of Cornwall. Points awarded:- 1st = 5pts, 2nd = 4pts, 3rd = 3pts, 4th = 2pts, 5th = 1pt. C37 The BOCM/SILCOCK Challenge Cup presented by Messrs BOCM/Silcock, for a Holstein Cow of Heifer scoring most points for conformation, milk yield and butterfat, for the officially recorded lactation completed after 30th May 2014 and or not more than 305 days. A National Milk Records certificate MUST BE ENCLOSED WITH ENTRY FORM. 80 points to be awarded to the Best Animal for conformation with the remaining animals on a descending scale; 5 points for each 453.5kgs (1,000 lbs) milk yield 3 points for each 0.1% over 3.5% butterfat. Animals with an average butterfat of less than 3.3% will not be eligible to compete. The judge will nominate one animal to go forward to each of the Interbreed Specials C5, C6 & C7.

Junior Stockpersons Competitors to prepare and show a calf of any breed or cross. Calves must be of a suitable size and temperament for the handler. No bulls born before 1st January 2015 can be exhibited in the Junior Stockperson Classes. Marks to be awarded as follows: 60% Leader’s ability to parade the animal, 40% turn-out of the leader and calf. Class: 43 Open to Junior Stockpersons who have not reached their 12th birthday on the day of the show, leading a Beef Calf born after 1st January 2015. 44 Open to Junior Stockpersons aged 12–16 years old on the day of the show, leading a Beef Animal born after 1st January 2014. No bulls born before 1st January 2015. 45 Open to Junior Stockpersons who have not reached their 12th birthday on the day of the show, leading a Dairy Calf born after 1st January 2015. 46 Open to Junior Stockpersons aged 12–16 years old on the day of the show, leading a Dairy Animal born after 1st January 2014.

Special Prizes: J1 A Perpetual Challenge Cup presented by Mr T Heller for the Champion Beef Junior Stockperson in classes 43 and 44. To be competed for annually. J2 Trophy presented by M&S Hauliers, for the Champion Dairy Junior Stockperson in classes 45 and 46. To be competed for annually J3 The Steve Hoskin Silver Medal. Mr Steve Hoskin has kindly presented a Silver Medal to the South Devon Herd Book Society, Cornwall Region and the Truro South Devon Cattle Club, for the young person up to and not including 16 years of age, gaining the most points in Cornish Shows with a South Devon or South Devon Cross Calf. This Show is one where points will be gained to count towards the Special Prize.

The Tattersalls, RoR Thoroughbred Ridden Show Horse Class.

Thoroughbred mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, any height. Riders must be 15 years or over on 1st January 2015. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle. Horses should be plaited. The first three go forward to the Championship at the Hickstead Derby Meeting in 2016. All entries MUST be registered and have RACED in GB. There will be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over. The class will be run under the rules of ROR. Horses to be ridden by the judge. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Please be aware that the show will split the class on the horse’s last run in a race (NH or Flat)or will provide two ride judges should the entries exceed 20. PLEASE MARK YOUR ENTRY FORM ACCORDINGLY. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. Racing injuries and blemishes will NOT be ignored in this series.

THE RoR/TBA (THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS ASSOCIATION) RETRAINED RACEHORSE CHALLENGE

Mare or gelding 4yrs old or over and of any height. Riders must be 15 years old or over on the 1st January. Horses to be ridden in any suitable bridle and should be plaited. The first 3 qualify for the final at Royal Windsor Show 2016. All entries must be registered with RoR and HAVE raced in GB. There will be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over. Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series. The class to be judged 50% jumping 15% style while jumping and performance. 20% awarded for individual show and 15% suitability to be retrained.

PHASE 1 Jumping to be judged: 6 rustic jumps ( 2’ 9”) with 2 optional bonus fences (3’3”). The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 4 points to be deducted for a knock down. 4 points to be deducted for a refusal. 8 points for second refusal. 3 refusals at any fence elimination. 50 marks maximum (5 each fence for 6 fences and 10 for each bonus fence if bonus fence jumped clear). 15 extra marks style and performance while jumping.

PHASE 2 Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes, at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often the case with a large number in the class). Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than 1½ minutes. Show to include the following movements: Walk, trot, canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop) halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 20 (to include performance) amount of retraining, suitability to diversify). Each horse to be presented in front of the judge, ridden and prior to phase 2, for suitability to be retrained. Total marks 15. Racing injuries and blemishes will be IGNORED. Liskeard Show Schedule 2015 24 Notes: BSPA Classes are open to Skewbald and Piebald horses and ponies only. Open to Members and non-Members. Members only to qualify for WCC. These classes are affiliated to the British Skewbald and Piebald Association and are qualifiers for the World Championships of Colour National Championships Show to be held at the college EC Keysoe, Bedfordshire on 23rd August 2015. All classes will be judged within the rules and criteria of the BSPA (copies of the rulebook and membership/horse registration/overstamping forms can be obtained from Show Office on 01354 638226 or downloaded from www.bspaonline.com). All stallions four years and over must be Licensed, Graded and Registered with the BSPA in order to compete and must carry into the ring their Red BSPA Showing ID card – No Bridle discs to be worn. In order to qualify all owners/handlers/riders must be members of the BSPA and all Horses/Ponies registered with BSPA prior to the Show. BSPA Qualification cards must be produced in the ring and be signed by the Judge, otherwise qualification is invalid. The highest placed amateur and highest placed junior in each class (must be members of BSPA) will qualify for the amateur and junior Supreme Championship finals to be held at the BSPA World of Colour Championship Show on 23rd August 2015 at the college EC Keysoe, Bedfordshire. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB

COMPETITIONS

Special Prizes: The Ruth Sargent Cup will be awarded to the club which gains the most points for prizes overall in the YFC Section. Points will be awarded 1st: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points 3rd: 1 point. In the event of a tie, the Young Farmer with most first prizes will win the cup.

A silver salver presented by Mrs M Crapp to be awarded to the Young Farmer (Female) of any Club, with the highest individual score.

On the day of the show entries must not be removed before 4.30pm, unless an earlier pick up time has been arranged with the Domestic Secretary. If any entries are not removed by 5.00pm, any remaining food items will be destroyed.

RECIPES

Class 4: Boys only, Jam Buns:

Ingredients: 8oz self-raising flour, pinch of Salt, 3oz butter/margarine, 3oz caster sugar, 3 – 4 tablespoons milk, jam, extra milk to glaze.

Method: Preheat the oven to 170°C/375°F/Gas 5. Grease baking tray, sieve together the flour and salt, rub in the butter/margarine, add sugar and mix thoroughly together. Add milk to give a STIFF DOUGH. Turn out onto a floured board and form into a roll. Cut pieces into ¾” thick and place onto the baking tray. Make a hollow in the centre of each and fill with a small amount of jam. Brush around the edges with milk and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Class 2: Farmhouse Fruit Cake:

Ingredients: 6oz soft margarine, 6oz caster sugar, 8oz plain flour, ½ level tsp baking powder, ½ level tsp mixed spice, 3 large eggs, 8oz mixed dried fruit, 2oz glace cherries cut into quarters.

Method: Place all ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix together. Put into a greased 7” approx. round tin or 2lb loaf tin and bake at 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 for 1¼ to 1½ hours. Leave the cake to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes and then turn out onto a wire rack and leave to cool completely.

Notes: Entries must be staged between 2pm and 6.30pm on Friday 10th July. NO EXHIBITS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME. Judging commences at 6.30pm prompt. The marquee will be closed to exhibitors at that time. On the day of the show, entries must not be removed before 4.30pm, unless earlier pick up time has been arranged with the Domestic Secretary. If any entries are not removed by 5.00pm, any remaining food items will be destroyed. Competitor’s name and number will be found on the tables in the Domestic Marquee. No Competitor may have more than one entry in any one class. Entries will be at your own risk.

Class 4: Tea bread:

Ingredients: 6oz dried mixed fruit and 4oz brown sugar soaked overnight in 6 fl oz of cold tea. 8oz self-raising flour, 1 egg beaten.

Method: Mix beaten egg with tea soaked fruit and sugar, fold in the flour, mix well and place in a well-greased 1lb loaf tin. Cook at 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 for 1 - 1¼ hours. Allow to cool in tin for 5 minutes, turn out onto wire rack and leave to cool completely.

Class 5: Cornish Fairings:

Ingredients: 2oz margarine, 4oz self-raising flour, 1 rounded tsp. ground ginger, level tsp. bicarbonate of soda, 2oz or 2 tablespoons of golden syrup,1½oz granulated sugar.

Method: Preheat oven 190°C/375°F/Gas 5. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl, add sugar, rub in margarine, add syrup and mix together. Roll into 16 balls (walnut size). Place on pre greased baking sheet or baking sheet lined with baking parchment well apart, flatten each gently with back of spoon. Bake 10-15 minutes, cool 10 minutes on baking tray, transfer to wire cooling tray.

Class 6: Farmhouse Fruit Cake:

Ingredients: 6oz soft margarine, 6oz caster sugar, 8oz plain flour, ½ level tsp baking powder, ½ level tsp mixed spice, 3 large eggs, 8oz mixed dried fruit, 2oz glace cherries cut into quarters.

Method: Place all ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix together. Put into a greased 7” approx. round tin or 2 lb loaf tin and bake at 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 for 1¼ to 1½ hours. Leave the cake to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes and then turn out onto a wire rack and leave to cool completely.

Class 7: Boiled Coconut Cake: use same size cup throughout recipe.

Ingredients: 1 cup of coconut, 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of milk, 4ozs margarine.

Method: Heat together in a saucepan and simmer for three minutes. Allow to cool. Add one beaten egg and 2 cups of self-raising flour. Line a 1 lb loaf tin with parchment paper and cook for an hour at 160°F/325°C/Gas 3. Turn out onto wire rack and leave to cool.

Class 9: Chocolate Fudge Cake:

Ingredients: 50g (2oz) sifted cocoa powder, 6tbsp boiling water, 3 large eggs, 50ml (2fl oz) milk, 175g (6oz) self-raising flour, 1 rounded tsp baking powder, 100g (4oz) softened butter,275g (10oz) caster sugar. For the icing and filling: 3tbsp apricot jam, 150g (5oz) plain chocolate (39% cocoa), 150 ml( ¼ pint) double cream. Method: Pre heat the oven to 180°C/fan160°C/Gas 4. Grease two 20cm (8inch) deep sandwich tins, line the base of each tin with baking parchment. Blend the cocoa and boiling water in a large bowl, add the remaining cake ingredients and beat until the mixture has become a smooth, thickish batter. Divide the cake mix equally between the prepared tins and level the surface. Bake in the pre heated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until well risen and the tops of the cakes spring back when lightly

Liskeard Show Schedule 2015 33 pressed with a finger. Leave to cool in the tins for a few minutes then turn out onto a wire cooling tray having peeled off the parchment paper to finish cooling.

To make the icing: Warm the apricot jam in a very small pan and then spread a little over the base of one cake and the top of the other. Break the chocolate into pieces and gently heat with the cream in a heat proof bowl set over a pan of simmering water for about 10 minutes or just until the chocolate has melted, stirring occasionally. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir the chocolate mixture to make sure it has completely melted. Leave to cool until it is on the point of setting and then spread on top of the apricot on both cakes. Sandwich the cakes together and use a small palette knife to smooth the icing on top. Keep in a cool place until ready to serve.

Class 12: Sultana & Orange Cake:

Ingredients: 4oz sultanas, 4oz margarine, 8oz self-raising flour, 2 eggs, 1 orange (finely grated zest and juice), 4oz demerara sugar (plus extra for sprinkling on cake before cooking). Method: Pre heat the oven to 175°C/350°F/ Gas 4. Cream sugar and margarine with grated zest, add beaten eggs, sifted flour and stir in fruit. Add the juice last and mix gently. Put into a lined 2 lb loaf tin or lined 7’ round cake tin. Sprinkle extra demerara sugar on top of cake before putting into the oven on the middle shelf for approx. Bake for 1 hour until golden brown.

Class 13: Cherry Shortbread Fingers

Ingredients: 100g (4oz) plain flour, 50g (2oz) corn flour, 100g (4oz) butter, 50g (2oz) caster sugar, 50g (2oz) glaze cherries (chopped). Icing sugar to decorate.

Method: Pre heat the oven to 160°C/325°F/ Gas 3. Grease a 17.5cm (7’) square tin. Sift together flours a couple of times, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Work in the flours and chopped cherries. Knead well together. Press mixture into tin and bake for approx. 35 minutes until a very pale golden brown. Remove from oven and mark into 12 fingers. Leave the shortbread to cool in the tin, sprinkle with sifted icing sugar when removed from tin.

Class 15: Cheese & Chutney Whirls: Ingredients: 125g plain flour, 100g butter (diced and chilled), 100g mature cheddar (or other strong cheese coarsely grated), 1 tablespoon chutney/pickle (finely chopped chutney/pickle for best results).

Method: Pre heat the oven 200°C/400°F/ Gas 6. Line a baking tray with baking parchment. Rub butter into flour until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in cheese and add 1 – 2 tablespoons of cold water. Combine until mixture forms a dough ball. Wrap in cling film and chill in fridge for 20 minutes. Lightly dust a work surface with flour and roll out the pastry into a rough rectangle 20cm x 40 cm, 5mm thick. Using a spatula spread chutney thinly over the pastry. Roll up the pastry starting from the longest edge to form a log. Using a serrated knife slice evenly into discs about 1cm thick and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly and then transfer onto a cooling rack.
