N.C. Central Women’s Basketball The Eagles played a nationally ranked team for the first time since 2014 and was defeated 97-44 by 18th- ranked Oregon State University on Wednesday. NCCU (1-2 Overall) is 0-1 on the road, suffering a 77-56 setback at Wofford College on Tuesday. Junior guard Rodneysha Martin has scored in double figures in all three games and is averaging 16.3 points per game. Her 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game are also team-high averages. Classmate Jayla Calhoun follows Martin with 12.3 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per contest. Calhoun (90%) and Martin (84.2%) both rank in in the top-5 of the MEAC in free throw percentage. Three other Eagles average over four points and four rebounds per game in junior Caira Benton (6.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg), sophomore Paulina Afriyie (5.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg) and junior Deja McCain (4.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg). Freshman Kieche White is coming off a season-high 11-point performance and is tallying 4.3 rebounds per game. White hit three 3-pointers in that contest, a season-best mark for any NCCU player. Junior Sami Oliver-Alexander and Ezinne Mbamalu along with sophomore Jada Blow all chip in 4.0 points per game. NCCU will be playing Colorado State for the first time in program history. Colorado State Women’s Basketball The Rams are coming off a 78-46 loss to the University of Oklahoma on Tuesday. Colorado State (2-2 Overall) has played all four of its games at home. Freshman guard Lore Devos has jumped into the starting lineup for the Rams and paces the squad with 12.0 points and 2.5 assists per game. Senior Hannah Tvrdy ranks second with nine points per contest. Junior Sofie Tryggedsson is averaging 2.5 made 3-pointers on her way to eight points per game. Senior Veronika Mirkovic and junior Annie Brady are CSU’s top rebounders at over six boards per game.
