PROF. DR. H.C. Roland Berger is Founder of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, , and has been the company's Honorary Chairman since 2010. He studied business administration in Hamburg and Munich.

Advisor to management and politicians Today, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has grown to become one of the world's top five strategy consulting firms with 50 offices in 36 countries. The company has a workforce of 2,400 and advises leading international industrial and service enterprises, as well as public institutions. From the company's foundation in 1967 until 2003, Roland Berger was CEO of the firm, and until 2010 Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Prior to founding his strategy consultancy, Roland Berger was employed as a consultant and ultimately partner at a leading American consulting firm based in Milan and Boston.

Roland Berger has been appointed to various expert commissions by several German state governments and the federal government. Since 2007, he has been a member of the High Level Group on Administrative Burdens under the leadership of former Bavarian State Premier Dr. Edmund Stoiber, appointed by the European Commission. Furthermore, Roland Berger was appointed a member of the Oxford Martin Commission for Future Generations in 2012. Since 2002, he has been on the Business Advisory Council of the State Premier of Saxony-Anhalt and was appointed to the Globalization Council Portugal by the Portuguese President Aníbal Cavaco Silva. Previously, German President Roman Herzog had appointed him to the President's Advisory Council for Innovation. Roland Berger has also participated in over 20 government commissions under Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder.

Member of supervisory boards and advisory councils Roland Berger is a member of several supervisory boards and advisory councils of national and international companies, foundations and organizations, including Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA (also chairman of the audit committee), Bad Homburg; Schuler AG, Göppingen; RCS Mediagroup S.p.A.(vice-President), Milan, Italy; Geox S.p.A., Biadene di Montebelluna, Italy. He also serves on several international advisory boards, including those of AG in Frankfurt and Miller Buckfire in New York.

Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Roland Berger Foundation Roland Berger is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Roland Berger Foundation, which he set up personally with an endowment of EUR 50 million. The Roland Berger Foundation is dedicated to the global protection of human dignity and human rights. Each year it confers the Roland Berger Award for Human Dignity. The Foundation also helps gifted children and young people from underprivileged families across Germany to gain access to the best possible primary and secondary education.

Entrepreneur and investor Roland Berger invests in many private and listed companies as well as startups.

Academic activities Since 1996 he has been a Lecturer and Visiting Professor and since 2000 Honorary Professor for Business Administration and at the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg.

He is a member of the Boards of Trustees of Ludwig Maximilians University Munich and the Munich Academy of Music & Drama and of the Advisory Council of INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau, France. Furthermore, he is Chairman of the Board of the Society for the Promotion of Economic Research (Friends of the ifo Institute) and became the ifo Institute's first honorary member. Roland Berger is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, London, as well as the Vice-Chair Europe of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS), Washington, D.C..

Involvement in the arts Roland Berger belongs to the Business Advisory Council of the Goethe Institute and is Chairman of the Business Advisory Council of the broadcaster Deutsche Welle and of the Board of Trustees of the Count of Montgelas Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Alfred Herrhausen Society and of the Circle of Friends of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, and also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Munich Concert Society.

Special duties Roland Berger has been Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Finland in Bavaria and Thuringia since 1999.

Roland Berger in private – Connoisseur of art and music who loves the great outdoors Outside work, Roland Berger pursues his interest in modern art and owns a large collection of artworks, mainly by contemporary artists from Europe, the US, South America and China. He also loves classical music and supports the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Bavarian State Opera, among others. He loves hiking and cross-country skiing, especially in the Swiss region of Engadin.
