She was born 29 Sep 1726 in North Farnham County, Virginia, and died before 18 June 1788 in Washington (now Grainger) County, Tennessee. They lived in the western portion of Halifax County, Virginia where William and others were ordered to lay out a rode from William's house to the courthouse. In 1766 they area in which they lived became Pittsylvania County. They built a cabin on a point between Boone's Creek and the . It is said that William had hunted there with and was familiar with the area. They were the first permanent white settlers in Tennessee. That same year their son Russell was born. The first white child born in Tennessee. Soon they were joined by Lydia's brothers John and George.

In 1818 all whites were driven out of the valley except Jesse and Judge Sanders who were allowed to remain because they were blacksmiths. In 1833 son-in-law Capt. William Russell (husband of daughter Lydia) joined Jesse in Arkansas.

In 1798 Jane along with Rosemond Robertson (who married Russell Bean) and Jemima Scroggins were involved in some sort of trouble and indicted. The warrant for there arrest was returned unserved, marked "Will not be taken, kept off by force and arms." Jane was killed by Indians 1798 in Grainger County, Tennessee, outside the walls of Bean Station. Accounts differ, once state that she was spinning and another that she went to a spring for water and was ambushed and scalped.

1. Col. ROBERT7 BEAN (JESSE6, WILLIAM5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WILLIAM2, WILLIAM1) was born 1779 in Tennessee, and died 1847. He married SALLY MILLER 06 Jun 1803 in Davidson County, Tennessee. By 1814 Robert and Sally migrated to Arkansas along with his brothers, Mark and Richard (and perhaps others) where Governor Miller appointed Robert, along with Roane, and James Billingsly to locate a site for the Pulaski County courthouse. Roane and Robert agreed on Little Rock and the Circuit Court agreed. That ended the Pulaski contest and gave Little Rock security and a chance to grow. Col. Robert Bean has been described as a pioneer of the Arkansas Territory. He ran the first keel boat up the White River and established himself at the mouth Polk Bayou near present day Batesville in 1814.
