It’s hard to believe that our fi rst competition was in 1996 and this is our 20th year of bringing the Future City Competition Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to the Philadelphia Region. It has been an exciting 20 years growing from 16 schools at our fi rst competition at the Franklin Langan Engineering & Environmental Services Institute to 42 schools this year. Along the way, we have introduced the engineering profession to thousands of middle school Society of American Military Engineers, Philadelphia Post students and hope to continue the program for years to some. We have added a number of new members to our steering committee which American Society for Quality, Philadelphia Section will bring new vitality to the Future City Program and help us to grow further. As both staff director and liaison to the DVRPC Board, Mr. Seymour has the primary responsibility to craft a regional agenda and an annual work program. DVRPC’s long-range plan and short-term Transportation Improvement Program allocates over $1 billion annually for transpor- tation improvements across the region.. He is a recipient of the 2008 Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence. Mr. Seymour is active on a wide variety of public and civic endeavors in the Philadelphia region and nationally, including several national committees for the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Science. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University and a Master of Regional Planning degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Harry Vitelli Harry joined Bentley in 2006 and is the Vice President of Infrastructure Products. He leads Bentley’s Con- struction and Mobile App product organization. Harry has more than 25 years of experience growing software sales revenues as a technology industry executive for both publicly and privately held companies, including serving as Vice President of Alliances at Adobe Systems and earlier as Senior Director of Product Management for Adobe’s Acrobat, Adobe Reader, and PDF software lines. His specialties include creat- ing product strategy for a broad base of target customers as well as strategic alliances. Harry received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Spring Garden College. Joseph R. Syrnick, PE, PLS Joseph Syrnick is President & Chief Executive Offi cer of the Schuylkill River Development Corporation (SRDC), the lead agency for the redevelopment of the Tidal Schuylkill River. In partnership with public and private agencies, institutions and corporations, SRDC’s core mission is to reconnect the river to the life and fabric of the city and region. Mr. Syrnick came to SRDC after a 34-year career with the City of Philadelphia, where he was Chief Engineer & Surveyor. He served 18 years as a Commissioner of Fairmount Park. In 2008, Mayor Nutter appointed Mr. Syrnick to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission where he currently serves as Vice-Chair. Mr. Syrnick is a graduate of Drexel University (BS in Civil Engineering in 1969; MSCE in 1971). He was 1997 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year. Mr. Syrnick is a native Philadelphian and lives with his family in Roxborough.
