Major Highlights of India’s Performance at Asian Games 2018

1) India won a total of 69 medals (15 Gold, 24 Silver and 30 Bronze) at the 2018 Asian Games. 2) This is the Highest Medal Tally for India at the Asian Games. The previous best was 65 medals at 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. 3) India finished 8th on the Medals table. China was number one with 289 Medals, followed by Japan (204) and South Korea (176). 4) By winning 15 Golds, India Equalled its record of highest Gold tally set in 1951 Asian Games. 5) Rahi Sarnobat became the first women shooter to win a Gold Medal at Asian Games.

6) Vinesh Phogat became the first Women Wrestler to win a Gold Medal at Asian Games. 7) India won its first medal in Table Tennis (Bronze in Mixed doubles and Men’s Team event), and Sepak takraw (Bronze in men's team regu event). 8) India won medals in Women Badminton for the first time. (P.V.Sindhu – Silver, Saina Nehwal – Bronze) 9) 19 Medals won in Athletics events is the best performance since 1951 Asian Games, where India had won 31 medals in Athletics 10) Neeraj Chopra’s Gold Medal in Javelin Throw and Swapna Burman’s Gold in Heptathlon were the first for India in these events. 11) For the First Time India did not win a Gold Medal in Kabaddi (both Men and Women). Men’s Team settled for Bronze after being defeated by Iran (who also won the Gold Medal) in semi-final and Women’s team were defeated by Iran in the Final and hence won Silver Medal.
