    MLB.COM Reds expect new leading man Choo to star in Cincy March 26, 2013, 10:00 A.M ET By Mark Sheldon GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Shin-Soo Choo is pleasant, thoughtful and polite, but his mere presence at the top of Reds' lineup is the club's not-so-subtle way of sending a warning to all foes. Cincinnati doesn't just want to repeat as National League Central champion, it expects to win the World Series -- this season. "I think that's pretty much what they're saying," Reds third baseman Todd Frazier agreed. Despite knowing full well that he was eligible to become a free agent after this season, the Reds did not blink when acquiring Choo from the Indians. It meant dealing away center fielder Drew Stubbs and promising shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius in the three- way deal with the D-backs. The Reds got their leadoff hitter, the catalyst and the producer they so desperately craved and didn't have last season. Now they have one year to get it right with all of the pieces to the puzzle finally seemingly in place. It's not that up-and-coming leadoff hitter and top prospect Billy Hamilton is chopped liver, but Choo is a proven entity and he is here now. "He's going to be a huge asset to the team, both on the field and in the clubhouse," right fielder Jay Bruce said. Not only is the 30-year-old Choo capable of getting on first base to set the table for Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto and the rest of the order, he can just as easily make it a 1-0 game after one at-bat.

Not in terms of production -- not everyone woke up Thursday fresh off a three- homer game and eyeing a third straight RBI title -- but in hitting approach and style. Baseball is a copycat game. Do something at the plate a little differently and very well, and soon someone is bound to mirror it. Baseball people don't think it a coincidence Giants prospect Christian Arroyo resembles Buster Posey in stance and swing, or how Jose Bautista's leg kick led to Josh Donaldson's and Justin Turner's, and on and on. The next trend may come from a mechanical tweak in Arenado's load some are calling the driving force behind not just the third baseman's homers, but also his future standing as a pioneer. "It's now three straight years, and he comes in at the break and he's leading baseball in RBI," Rockies broadcaster and former outfielder Ryan Spilborghs said. "You start paying attention to him. Mechanically, what does he do?" It's what Arenado does with his back (right) foot, specifically, during his swing that is turning heads. Slow down the video of his three-homer game Wednesday. Before each one, Arenado actually lifts his back foot off the ground prior to stepping with the front foot, a momentum-creating motion that essentially gives him a running start into the pitch.

    Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings January 14, 2015 CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Aroldis Chapman donation propels MSJ locker room renovation By Shannon Russell / Cincinnati Enquirer / [email protected] There's nothing like having an updated home locker room, and a donation by Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman ensured just that for Mount St. Joseph's men's volleyball team. The three-month project features 21 custom wood lockers and new flooring. More from MSJ: "This project absolutely could not have been completed without Mr. Chapman's generosity,'' coach Ryan Lengerich said. "He has ties to this program and believes in its mission and commitment to winning on the court, in the classroom and in the community. We are forever grateful and proud to have him as a friend to the program." The Mount building and grounds staff gutted the locker room in October, including removing small metal lockers and a privacy wall, which significantly increased the usable space in the locker room. New ceiling, trim and wall paint was followed by new flooring and custom lockers from JR Customs Unlimited in Hamilton. The locker room is a special place where the athletes celebrate the wins and pick each other up in defeat," Lengerich said. "These student-athletes deserve this locker room. They never asked for it, they only worked hard each day and were thankful for what they had. They are a humble group, and there is no doubt they will treat this locker room with respect and enjoy it." The men's volleyball locker room is provided by the university for use solely by the team.
