Rooted in the Gospels and formed by Ignatian , the mission of the Catholic Community of Thomas More is to glorify by our lives. C__ `J1 O `JJ7

Let us give THANKS! Thank you to everyone who gave so generously of their me and talent to bring beauty to our worship experience this Holy Week. Our liturgies of Palm Sunday and the Triduum were crowned with beauty and grace in environment, music and ritual. Thank you to parishioners who spent hours preparing our worship orders, cleaning the church, decorang our worship space, and doing all the extra tasks demanded by the unique rituals of Passionde. Thank you to the singers and instrumentalists who spent hours in rehearsal and shared their gi of music so generously. Thank you to the members of the Saint Thomas More Core Liturgy Team who put many hours into the preparaon of our liturgies and into the facilitaon of community par - cipaon in ritual and hospitality. Thank you to our liturgical ministers, many of whom spent me in extra preparaon for the performance of their ministries and all of whom brought a prayerful presence to their ministry. Thank you to the generous people who donated funds toward the purchase of Easter flowers and other environ - ment essenals. (A list of these donors will appear in a future edion of our parish bullen.) And thank you to everyone gathered here for worship this Easter Day – regular aendees and visitors alike. Our liturgies are always enriched by the shared faith of all who worship. A sincere “Thank You” to each and every one of you for celebrang your Easter Joy here at Saint Thomas More. The 50 Days of Eastertide: One Great Sunday Celebration Most of us are familiar with the 40 days of Lent. spent 40 days in the wilderness and we join him in that transforma - onal desert during the Lenten season. Our songs celebrate it: “These Forty Days of Lent, O Lord;” “Lord, who throughout these Forty Days;” “Forty Days and Forty Nights.” But 50 days of Easter? Even more astounding: one great Sunday liturgy that lasts 50 days? If you think about it, however, what is most astonishing is the popular percepon that the glorious mys - tery of salvaon through Christ’s triumph over death can be fully expressed in a single day’s celebraon – Easter Sunday. For many it is easy to view the resurrecon as a glorious event in history that vindicated the mission of Christ. It proved his divinity. What is more difficult, from our human perspecve, is to fully comprehend and celebrate the great magnitude of this saving event. It is a dynamic reality that connues to shape our daily lives as well as the future of our world – 50 days seems hardly sufficient. Adrian Nocent, OSB, writes, “The Church does not limit her celebraon of her Lord’s resurrecon to Easter Sunday but con - nues it unl the day when the Lord sends his Spirit. The reason for this unbroken celebraon is that Pentecost marks the full impact of salvaon on the world, and the outpouring of God’s life upon men.” The Church’s liturgy renders the events of salvaon history present in our midst. We parcipate in those very events every me we parcipate in the liturgy. Cele - brang 50 days of Easter allows us to ponder and embrace the mystery of our Easter Joy in its enrety: Christ brings us through death to new life in the resurrecon; the disciples come to know him in the breaking of the bread; he ascends to God the Father as the apostles gaze in wonder; and the fullness of the Holy Spirit is poured out upon all who believe – all so that we (the Body of Christ) may actualize this saving grace in the world. What that saving grace looks like at any point in me is dictated by our individual stories, our choices, the presence we bring to our parcipaon in the liturgy and our convicon of faith. So the Church takes 50 days to celebrate the great Day of the Lord – Christ’s connuing triumph of life over death. The very term “Easter” evokes the place of the sun’s rising with its light, warmth and hope – symbol of the rising Christ. The great Easter (Paschal) Candle stands in our midst. It is central symbol of the Christ Light that darkness cannot overcome the light that dispels the gloom of sin and sadness. The saving waters of bapsm are sprinkled upon us as joyful Alleluia’s resound. The penitenal purple of Lent gives way to resurrecon white; and the barrenness of our Lenten wilderness be - comes the vibrant colors and sweet fragrance of an Easter garden, flowing from the feet of the crucified Christ. Gathered together as one body in Christ, we live the mysteries of our faith; and, through our parcipaon in the liturgy, the dynamic reality of Christ’s death and resurrecon shapes our daily lives and the life of the world anew.

School News!

During the season of Lent many of the students at STM reflected about the things they would give up to bring them closer to Jesus! The Kinders made stained glass windows and on the cross in the center they wrote what they would give up for Lent. There were lots of responses such as: I don’t want to spend money during Lent, I will give up buying Pokemon cards, I will give up screen me, I am going to give up a meal, and I will be kind to my sister. These are some really neat ideas from the Kinders! The 4th graders drew gardens that represented how they would grow during Lent and what needed to be picked out of their gardens! In the gardens, tulips represent kindness, a kite in the sky meant flying above expectaons, trees represent - ed growing in faith, and a pond represented calmness. These examples are great ways to grow and become closer to God! The weeds that need to be picked out of the gardens represented selfishness, bragging, being mean, gossip, and lying. These ideas are great examples of things we need to get rid of in our lives so we can grow closer to God! Lent is truly a me to reflect on our relaonship with God and become closer to Him.
