ADDITIONAL NOTES: CONTINUED MESSAGE FROM DR. LINDA E. YOUNG VILLAGE MEETINGS: Meetings are not held during the summer months of June, July or August and will resume in September. Budget Update There are no significant changes to the District's budget since the Board of Trustees adopted the 2012-2013 Final Budget on May 16, 2012. An Amended Final Budget will be presented to the Board in December, and it will reflect any required budgetary changes and any changes to the budget based on final enrollment counts.

Legislative Update On August 1, 2012, the Board of Trustees voted to submit two bill draft requests for consideration by the Nevada Legislature. One of the bills will focus on eliminating barriers to digital and blended learning by 1) eliminating the need for students in other districts to obtain board approval to participate in a program of distance learning; 2) allowing students to be concurrently enrolled in their high school and a distance education program; and 3) permitting an unlicensed staff member to supervise a class of students participating in a program of distance education which is taught by a licensed teacher.

The second bill draft request focuses on charter schools and will reaffirm the ability of local school boards to sponsor them. The bill will also empower trustees to define the circumstances under which a charter school may use a district-owned facility.

The Board also received a copy of education-related bill drafts to date from legislators and the 2011 Legislative Platform for consideration

Policies and/or Regulations Information At the July 12, 2012, school board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the amendments to CCSD Policy 5137 Safe and Respectful Learning Environment and Regulation 3316 Relations with Suppliers.
