Medicine: officinarum Hypothesis by: Graciela Elicegui at Escola Kentiana do RJ/ IHJTK, 2006 and I Encontro Internacional de Homeopatia Numênica – Parati, jul. 2006 Version 5: 04/04/16

Description: Poisonous from the family, native from the Mediterranean contains such as and . Herb of very short stem, emitting a rosette of leaves from which center originates the flowers stems, in color between violet and blue. The taproot often forks and, being thick and fleshy, looks like two thighs. To increase the resemblance, wizards sculpted it adding details, as seen in medieval engravings that illustrate its supposed aphrodisiac power. The hebrew name for the (dudhaim) is formed by the same root of "love". This is another reason why, in some parts of the Middle East, this plant is still considered as an aphrodisiac able to excite love and enhance human fertility. For the Doctrine of Signatures, , whose shape is similar to human body, has power to create this shape and thus would serve to combat the infertility. Its name derives from how the Greeks called it "harmful to livestock". Mandrake was once considered as a cure for madness and an exorcising , for thinking that the devils could not tolerate its smell. Shakepeare speaks of its bloodcurdling shrieks, and it is said that it is the "insane root" of Macbeth; it is also mentioned in Mark Antony and Cleopatra, and in Romeo and Juliet.

Hypothesis: Envied Divine Attribute - OMNIPRESENCE Main themes - EMBRACE / CONTAINED / LIMITED / CONTINENT

Masi Elizalde - Primary Psora is reflected in the uncertainty of the rational soul of modern man about the existence of God on the historical reality of his past perfection and bliss, and about the future possibility to recover them and be assured of their eternal condition. Primary Psora Latent is one in which the correct resolution of conflictive imagination content is ceasing distress, or when it desappears for therapeutic action, allowing, in second step, the equal consideration of imaginative unknown, along with the acquisition of knowledge needed to solve it, prevent its return. Primary Psora Governing is one in which the imagination of content is lived with anxiety and is not resolved, or badly resolved. (Elizalde, M. Acta IIAEHJTKent 3, 1985)

Primary Psora Nucleous Transgression or Guilt - Envy the attribute by which God is in all things, without being bound by them, but on the contrary, limiting them and embracing them. He envied his power to be in the creature’s intimacy, containing and conforming them, without being trapped or limited by them. Adam / Mandrake refused the presence of God at the center of his being, conforming and limiting him and, at the same time, containing him. The presence of God is so internal as around us, embraces us, contains us, limits us, models us and conforms us. Mandrake refuses the embrace of God and suffers pains, cramps in the arms and hands. Loss - Adam lost the ability to receive gratefully the embrace and stay within it; he rebelled and

WWW.IHJTKENT.ORG.BR Page 1

refused to receive what is now painful to him. Mandrake lost the ability to be embraced, to be contained with gratitude and to contain, and thus losed the ability to generate (infertility), which implies in contain; cannot contain anything, she is sterile, casts out anything and everything irritates her - embrace implies in Containment. No longer feels God in his heart nor His welcoming embrace. Modern man lacks His protective covering; he is excitable, hypersensitive and irritable, unable to contain. He also lacks the limits within in which he performed according to the conformation given by God; walks blindly, is wrong, switches paths and shapes. Any element of reality that evokes some aspect of this issue drives this unconscious archetype that he thinks he has played; triggers suffering and mechanisms to calm himself. Fear to the punishment - Illusion of being possessed by the devil. Reconciliation – When he accepts humbly and passively to receive the generous love of God; improves when leans forward, with rest and the warmth of the bed. The Mandrake-Man in health will have the ability to feel the presence of God within himself, to meet Him, give Him welcome; he would say "You are the first," "without You we cannot do anything". Would welcome God and all He represents and symbolizes, including the other, other creatures. And this presence would not burn him, but he would be impressed and moved by it. Would not feel this presence in the depths of his being, in his center, in his heart, as constrictive or piercing. He would feel and accept with gratitude the restriction and the limit that His presence implies, trying to continue shaping up according to the configuration already inscribed by God, firmly walking in that direction and interpreting the limits of reality as messages, not as a meaningless constraint. With other creatures will have the ability to be impressed and moved, will be able to embrace them and hold them; will encourage them to be held within the limits and the structure that God has implanted them, helping them to recognize Him in his privacy. He will be an inspiring of life, he will know how to touch their hearts, penetrate them, and touch their souls. And in that sense he will be generous, no longer dictator and intrusive, but respecting the inner being of each one and from a place of humility before the infinite omnipresent generosity of God. This will be the gift of Mandrake-Man in health.

Miasmatic Dynamics Secondary Psora - Suffers forward to everything that reminds him of the intimate presence of God and His limiting and protective embrace. All punches him, burns, irritated and constricted. We can take as a symptom-summary of suffering: heart constriction. He suffers from extreme excitability in mood, suffers from inconsistency of his symptoms, hysteria; suffers from hypersensitivity expressed by burning, punching, raw flesh, hypersensitivity to the sound, light, smell, touch, storms, the Sun. Egotrophyc Tertiary Psora - a) If he denies his loss, may receive and contain God and all that represents Him inside with no suffering, nothing burns or irritates him. Strong and undisturbed before indoor ou outdoor excitations: will be continent, cozy, will exclude no one, will welcome the other; he will be a strong person, focused, with a defined personality with limits and clear purposes; he will demonstrate also to accept the outer limits; he will be a fruitful and active person. b) Assume the attribute: he embraces everyone. He intends to be closely into others and conform them, shape them, contain them and limit them. Therefore, without getting stuck in them, perhaps doing a fuss of detachment. He will intend to contain the others and model them in his own way. And to achieve it will be penetrating, motivational, he will encourage others; he will urge them to their implementation according to the plan that he has for them. He will show them, will touch their hearts, and will reach

WWW.IHJTKENT.ORG.BR Page 2

their soul. He will pose on great generosity, but it will be an intrusive and dictator generosity. In egotrophy embraces all claiming to contain and shape; foolish attempt, mood parody of God's presence in things. Expells his abundant and scarce internal content, which improves his symptoms, even the mental ones - hypersensitivity of the senses that improves by urination. He is a hardworking and must move constantly, which makes him good. He can and wish to receive any food in abundance. Jubilant, embraces the whole world and is generous. Egolytic Tertiary Psora - Try not to feel the presence of God: anaesthetises himself, falls asleep, and covers himself of coating and sticky substances. In egolysis numb his arms and has the feeling of not belonging to them. Embrace of God gives us continence, limits, conforms and shapes us. Mandragora rejects this limit and is subject to external influences without restraint; dreams with accidents and murderers, constantly shifts his character, has a restless excitability, lacks of a model or configuration that are clear. Alterlytic Tertiary Psora – He limits and involves the other to harm him and refuses to embrace the other to comfort him (python hug). Embraces without embracing, destruction by passivity; does not embrace.

Masi Elizalde considerations: In his past of perfection, Adam -Mandrake gratefully felt the presence of God within him, giving him the being and embracing him at the same time; that is, containing him, limiting him and conforming him. Now everything feels as raw flesh, on what he should feel grateful (light, sound, touch, smell, food, intestinal contents) and lives it painfully and constrictively. He cannot use his hands and arms that serve to embrace. On the other side, in the egotrophy shows off to embrace the whole world. God is present as the cause of the being of things. Gives the being generously and simultaneously contains and shapes the creature. Adam-Mandrake could conceive and contain the product of his pregnancy, in accepting God within him, but man-Mandrake, rejecting the presence of God, is sterile, only generates thick and slimy excretions. In Egotrophy he is generous, parodying the love of God who gives us the being. It is not up to them to take that first step of divine causality, but to continue and collaborate in shaping that God has determined for each creature. So, perhaps, it is difficult to walk in the morning upon waking up, in the first movement, and improves with the continued and prolonged movement.

An embrace brings the idea of continent: to embrace, to contain, to include, accepting. This leads us to the following hypothesis: Theological Summa – Art.1º, Q.8 - proposes the following question: "Is God or not in all things?" Objections: 1) It seems that God is not in all things; 2) what is in something in it is contained. But God is not contained by things, but that God contains the created. Therefore, God is not in things, but, the things are in Him. Hence Augustine in the book Octoginta Trium, Q. 1, says that all things are in Him, but He is nowhere. Of all the article we may detach the 2nd Objection: it says that God cannot be in all things, because that way He would be restrained (held, limited) by them. And of course, this may not be. Nothing can limit God. The answer to the objection can clarify the Mandragora problem: tangible things, when in others, are contained in them, such as water in a glass, for example. But in the case of immaterial beings it is different. To be in a body, they are not contained by it, but the opposite occurs. Immaterial contains the body, eg. it gives shape and pattern, as in the case of the soul in the body and simultaneously surrounds and confines it. Similarly, God is truly in things, but not bound by them,

WWW.IHJTKENT.ORG.BR Page 3

but limiting them (embracing them). This seems to be the Mandragora problem.

The General Solution of the article shows us that God's presence in things, is mainly due to the creative action of God. So, God is present in creatures as a cause of being of the same. It must be said: God is in all things, not dividing His essence or by accident, but as the agent is present in what it does. It is imperative that the agent is in touch with what he does, directly, and fills it up with his power. In VII Physicum (Aristotle), it is proved that the engine and the moved go together. The effect is caused by God, not just when things start to exist, but throughout its existence, as the light that the Sun causes in the air remains while the air remains illuminated.

SYMBOLOGY / MYTHOLOGY

Mandrake was used to un-petrify what Medusa petrified.

ARM: one symbol of offering, sacrifice and protection. HEART: in the religious symbolism it is the place that belongs to God, it corresponds to the notion of center -the vital center of the human being. Mandrake refused to accept God at its center. In emblems the heart means love as a center of enlightenment and happiness. Heart as a symbol of the center and man intimacy, settling down of the being generously given by God, settling down of God even in the creature; heart from where the generous embrace comes from.

GENESIS - Jacob (who later became ) married Rachel, who was barren. Rachel, jealous of her sister Leah, offered her maid Bilhah to Jacob, to give her sons (Dan and Naphtali). Leah, who had no more children, also offered her maid Zilpah to Jacob, and she gave him two more sons (Gade and Asher). Ruben, Leah´s son, went to the field and brought mandrakes to his mother. Gên. 30:14 Then, Reuben went out in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah: Give me, I pray thee, from your son's mandrakes. 30:15 And said Leah: Isn´t it enough that you have taken my husband? Do you also want to take my son's mandrakes? And Rachel said: Therefore he shall lie down with you tonight for your son's mandrakes. 30:16 And when Jacob came in the afternoon from the field, Leah came out to meet him and said, Thou shalt be with me, because surely I hired you with my son's mandrakes. And with her, he lay that night. 30:17 And God hearned Leah, and she conceived and bare Jacob the fifth son. 30:18 And Leah said, God has given me my reward, because I gave my maid to my husband. And she called his Issachar. 30:19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son; 30:20 and said, God gave me a good dowry; now he will live with me my husband, because I have borne him six sons. She named him Zebulun. 30:21 After this gave birth to a daughter, and called her name Dinah. 30:22 always remembered God of Rachel, heard her and opened her womb.

SONG OF SOLOMON - Chapter 7-13: The mandrakes give forth fragrance, and at our gates are all choice fruits, new and old; I have laid up for thee, oh! my beloved.

BENEVOLENT – It is one who wants the Good, benevolent, whose disposition is favorable, WWW.IHJTKENT.ORG.BR Page 4

sympathetic, forgiving - is what makes the Good (29 medicines). GENEROUS - It is one of character and noble feels, greatness of soul; with breadth to give in an amount larger than necessary. GENEROSITY - A curiously different virtue from the Christian virtue of Charity, because while the latter is a response to the needs and shortcomings of others, generosity may just be a plenty exercise, an excess of goodwill or benevolence. Aristotle takes it as the correct compromise between profligacy and greed, but we argue that it may be overly generous, so that, although in this case there is something wrong, that person has not lost, however, the generous title (Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy, Simon Blackburn).
