The World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical Christian SHALES BROS. laywomen’s initiative. It is run under the motto “Informed Prayer Building & Roofing Contractor and Prayerful Action,” and is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the first Friday in March.

The movement aims to bring together women of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, under- standing and action throughout the year.

The World Day of Prayer 2017 host country will be the Philippines and the theme, prepared by the women, is “Am I Being Unfair to You?” The scripture reading for the service is Matthew 20:1-16.

The Philippines is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean consisting of about 7,641 islands. The Philippines is an officially secular state, although Christianity is the dominant faith. Catholic Church data from 2015 found that about 82.9% of the population professed Catholicism. Protestants are estimated to be less than 5% of the total population. Source: Wold Wide Web

Women’s World Day of Prayer local Service will be on Friday 3rd March. See Church ‘Pew Sheet’ for details of time and place.

Recipe of the Month

Quick Cheese Pizza Ingredients - 150g self-raising flour ½ level teaspoon salt 50g margarine 1 egg mixed with 2 tablespoons milk 1 tin tomatoes or 250g fresh tomatoes Salt, pepper, pinch of mixed herbs or oregano 100g cheese 50g mushrooms (optional) 1 onion Tin of sardines or pilchards (optional) or one rasher of bacon Method - 1. Light oven, Gas 5, 200°C. Place the shelf near top of oven. Grease a baking sheet. 2. Put flour and salt in a bowl, rub in half of margarine, add egg and milk, mix to a soft dough. Roll out a large circle, about 22cm in diameter, or two smaller circles. 3. Drain the tomatoes (or slice if fresh). Grate the cheese. Peel and slice the onion and mushrooms, chop the bacon (if used). Fry in the other half of margarine till soft 4. Spread the tomatoes, cheese, salt, pepper, herbs, onion, mushrooms, and bacon over the base. Arrange the fish on top (if used). 5. Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes until the base is cooked. Cool on a wire tray. Serve warm or cold with a salad. You can change the topping on a pizza as you like, using for example chopped cooked meat or chicken, olives, or peppers. For thin crispy individual pizzas press the dough into 2 x 4 Yorkshire Pudding tins. Pasta or pizza sauce is good instead of tomatoes - NOT puree, because it burns. Happy Baking. Val

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road, This is a journey we all must take And the sun has set for me, And each must take alone; I want no tears in a gloom-filled room, It’s all a part of God’s perfect plan, Why cry for a soul set free? A step on the road to home.

Miss me a little, but not too much, When you are lonely and sick of heart, And not with your head bowed low. Go to the friends that we know. Remember the love that once we shared, Bury your sorrows in doing good, Miss me, but let me go. Miss me, but let me go.
