Dear Delegates,

On behalf of the Canadian Federation of Friends of (CFFM), I would like to welcome you to . The CFFM is proud to host the 2019 General Assembly Meeting of the WFFM. Our aim is to create opportunities for delegates to exchange ideas regarding the advancement of museums and the Bruce D. Bolton preservation of our shared heritage.

Montreal, a vibrant and culturally rich city, is home to outstanding museums, heritage sites as well as arts and culture institutions. Many of Montreal’s museums, galleries, and heritage sites have generously collaborated with the CFFM and have helped develop stimulating programs and unique learning opportunities for delegates. Due in large part to the collaborative effort and spirit of our partners, I am confident that the 2019 meeting of WFFM will inspire and create opportunities for delegates to reflect upon the future of museums.

Meet delegates of the WFFM, collect your Welcome Package, and visit the historic Maison Louis-Joseph Forget. Refreshments will be provided.

Alain Laforest, Maison Louis- The Maison Louis-Joseph Forget was Joseph Forget the family home of a prominent French-Canadian stockbroker and politician. Designated a monument historique by the Ministère des affaires culturelles du Québec in 1974, this late nineteenth- century home is one of Montreal’s architectural treasurers.

Free Time 14h00-17h00

We encourage attendees to take advantage of Montreal’s energetic atmosphere and explore its attractions, including the underground city, which has 33 km of tunnels. Don’t forget your map!

Location: Salon des amis Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal 1380 Rue Sherbrooke West, H3G 1J5

All Council Members, Accompanying Persons and Young Friends are invited to attend the opening reception of the WFFM. Meet with local organizers and delegates of the WFFM at the beautiful reception space of the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM).

Dinner at your leisure.

Montreal is known for its food scene and culturally diverse restaurants. The CFFM’s Organizing Committee encourages delegates to eat their way through the city! Please consult your Welcome Package for restaurant suggestions.

Location: Maison Louis-Joseph Forget 1195 Rue Sherbrooke West, H3A 1H9

Accompanying Persons will meet the guide at the Maison Louis-Joseph Forget and walk to two prominent historic and religious sites, St. Patrick’ Basilica and Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.

Our guide recommends that participants bring water and wear comfortable shoes.

Council Members and Accompanying Persons are invited to share classic Montreal fare. Be sure to bring your appetite as you will not want to miss the opportunity to try the city’s famous St. Viateur bagels, smoked meat sandwiches and more!

Museum Visits 13h00-15h00

Leaving from the Maison Louis-Joseph Forget at 13h00, Council Members and Accompanying Persons will visit different museums at a walking distance. The CFFM’s amazing volunteers will help escort delegates to one of the following museums:

1. Canadian Centre for Architecture

Delegates will receive an in- depth guided tour of the centre’s exhibitions and its Reading Room, normally closed to the public.

2. McGill University Museums:

Beginning at 13h30, the Redpath ’s Curator of World Cultures, will give delegates a presentation on the museum’s history, collection, and research initiatives. Delegates can

also explore the museum’s Redpath Museum, McGill University galleries.

Beginning at 15h30, delegates will receive a guided tour of the MBAM’s Thierry Mugler: Couturissime. Enjoy this avant-garde world premiere!

Keynote Lecture Dr. James O. Pawelski 18h30-19h30

The Science of Well-Being and the Art of Human Flourishing

Dr. James O. Pawelski, Ph.D. is Professor of Practice and Director of Education in the Positive Psychology Center and Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Pawelski is the author of The Dynamic Individualism of William James, editor of the philosophy section of the Oxford Handbook of Happiness, and co-author (with his wife Suzann Pileggi Pawelski) of Happy Together: Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts.

As an international keynote speaker who has given talks in more than 20 countries on six continents, Dr. Pawelski is the recipient of the Humanitarian Innovation Award for the Humanities, Arts, and Culture from the Humanities Innovation Forum at the United Nations.

The keynote lecture will be followed by a brief presentation by Stephen Legari, Art Therapist at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal.

This museum and historic monument will immerse you in the histories of Montréal, Ville Marie, as well as Hochelaga. Delegates

2. Notre -Dame Basilica 13h30-14h15

2. Musée McCord 15h00-17h00

A private tour of the McCord Museum’s permanent exhibition, Wearing our Identity – The First Peoples Collection has been arranged for delegates. Participants will also receive a special introduction to the museum’s temporary exhibit, SDING K’AWXANGS – Haida: Supernatural Stories.

Dinner Banquet Location: Château Dufresne 2929 avenue Jeanne-d’Arc, H1W 3W2

Leaving from Hôtel Le Cantlie Suites at 18h30, Council Members and Accompanying Persons will travel to Château Dufresne, a Beaux-Arts style monument built between Château Dufresne, musée et lieu historique patrimonial 1915 and 1918. Delegates will have exclusive access to the site and the exceptional opportunity to share a delicious dinner in the Château’s ornate rooms.
