The Colombo Town Guard is composed of Companies :— (a) One or more Companies of Artillery ; (6) One or more armed Companies (combatant) of Infantry ; '•' (c) Suoh unarmed Ccmpany or Companies (admihistrative) as may from time to time be authorized by His Excellency. 3. The Officer Commanding the Troops, Ceylon, will, during the present war, take personal charge of the training and instruction of the Corps, and be consulted with reference to the f orrhati on of its Companies, and the appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations' of its officers. , . 4. The following officers, that is to say:— (a) The Staff Officer of the Ceylon Volunteer Force, (fc) The Paymaster of the Ceylon Volunteer Force, (c) The Quartermaster of the Ceylon Volunteer Force, will carry out such duties in connection with the Colombo Town Guard as may be authorized by the Commandant. ... 5. Officers shall be appointed for the Colombo Town Guard in the same manner and subject to the same qualifications as officers of the other units of'the Ceylon Volunteer Force, and shall take the oath of allegiance on. receiving their commissions. , 6. Appointments and promotions of non-commissioned officers will be made by Officers Commanding Companies. 7. Officers Commanding Companies are responsible for the maintenance of discipline, efficiency, and proper system in their Companies. They will supervise and control all duties performed by those^ undec> their command, and will be • responsible for arms, equipments, and etoresStppsrtaining to their Companies, as well as for the proper application of all funds and expenditure. 8. Officers Commanding Companies are responsible for the-followmg documents:— (a) Muster Roll; • . {b) Records of Fromotiohs and Reductions, Attendance at Drill, Efficiency, Musketry. 9. Uniform will be worn as authorized by the Commandant. 10. The regulations contained in section 6 of the Rules and Regulations of the Ceylon Volunteer Force shall apply to the Members of the Colombo Town Guard in the same manner as to other members of the Volunteer Force, with such modi­ fications as may be necessitated by these rules. 11. The oath to be sworn by a Member of the Corps shall, for Members enrolled subsequent to the approval of these rules, be in the following form ;— I, A. B., do solemnly promise and swear (or do solemnly, sincerely, and truly affirm, and declare) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King George the Fifth, and I will faithfully serve His Majesty for the defence and protection of the town of Colombo and its vicinity against all his enemies and oppressors whatsoever, according to the conditions of my service. 12. Nothing in these regulations shall be held to interfere'with the command of the Volunteer Force which is vested in the Commandant as the Senior Officer responsible to the Governor for all matters connected with the Force, except when acting with regular forces of the Crown or when called out for active service.
