("Just go to work. I'll call you when I'm done.") SPECIAL 0x16 Def Comedy Jam More All Stars, Vol. 2. This second volume of raw and gritty More All Stars episodes from the early 1990s finds comedians Martin Lawrence and Joe Torry still on active duty as frequent hosts. (Between introducing up-and-coming, African American comics, Lawrence gets in some good licks about the psychological contrast between deranged white men and defeatist black men getting fired from their jobs.) The overall quality of the shows is a bit lower than Volume 1, but Steve Harvey hits a double with satiric observations about why blacks never hitch rides, Tony Brown strikes a nerve with a joke about ice-skating as a white pursuit, and Gerald Kelly delivers a clever penis plaint from his member's point-of-view. ("You tryin' to suffocate me with that thing?"). Speaking of which, the John and Lorena Bobbitt drama--fresh news at the time--figures prominently in the gags, though to uneven effect. --Tom Keogh. Popular Standup Comedian and Actor D.L. Hughley to Perform Oct. 28. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Arena Entertainment will present comedian D.L. Hughley at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the Mainstage theater in the Center for the Arts on the University at Buffalo's North (Amherst) Campus. One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today has also made quite an impression in the feature film and television arena. Hughley recently starred in NBC-TV's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He also recently starred in a one-hour comedy special for HBO entitled "Maybe It's Just Me." Hughley spent four successful years starring in his own sitcom "The Hughleys." In 2005-06, Hughley hosted his own late night talk show for Comedy Central "Weekends at the DL." The talk show fulfilled one of Hughley's dreams to host his own late night talk show. Also currently airing on Comedy Central is Hughley's one-hour comedy special "Shocked and Appalled." On the CD side, Huchley's long-awaited comedy CD, "Notes from the GED Section," is currently available. It was the mega-hit "Original Kings of Comedy" that launched Hughley into superstardom. The film, based on the 1999 tour featuring Hughley, Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, garnered close to $40 million at the box office and became one of the highest-selling DVDs in 2001. In 1999, the four comedians embarked on a national tour, which sold out most of the major concert arenas in more than 50 cities across the country. Spike Lee, eager to expose the tour to a larger audience, made a docu-film of the tour, and it was released nationwide to rave reviews. Hughley has undoubtedly proved himself as one of the hardest-working men in showbiz. In addition to his growing film resume, Hughley continues his reign on the standup comedy front, filling out concert arenas and headlining comedy clubs across the country. His one-hour HBO special, "D.L Hughley Going Home," earned him a nomination for an NAACP Image Award. With his innate ability to make people laugh, Hughley began his career as a comedian working in small clubs, and cites his appearance on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam" as one of his earliest breaks in the business. As a result of his work on HBO and his quick rise in popularity among the audiences he constantly kept in stitches, Hughley was chosen as the first host of "ComicView" on BET. steve harvey. Cedric The Entertainer Gets Personal With New Netflix Stand-Up Special. Filmed at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in April 2015, the live special finds one of “The Original Kings of Comedy” covering topics surrounding his personal life, this year’s “crazy election,” as well as sharing his thoughts on the state of rap music today. For Cedric, the premiere of the Netflix special couldn’t have arrived at a more fitting time in his life. “ It just felt like it was time. A lot of the fans haven’t seen me on stage like that since ‘The Kings of Comedy’ tour or my HBO special,” he said during an interview with The Huffington Post. “I’m not one of these guys that shares everything on social media every day. So, I saw this Netflix special as a great opportunity to talk to my fans about family and about what’s going on in my life.” The special marks Cedric’s first television stand-up comedy since the 2006 HBO special, “Cedric the Entertainer: Taking You Higher.” In addition to being a fan of “The Carmichael Show,” and comedians Deon Cole and Lil Duval, the St. Louis-native says he also has an interest to see some of today’s comedians replicate his successful “The Kings of Comedy” tour. “I think it would be hard to get this younger generation of comedians to do a tour like that, but if we were to see a ‘Kings of Comedy’ with a new crop of comedians, I’d want to see people like Kevin Hart and Kat Williams,” he said. “I’d really be interested in seeing something where you have seasoned comedy vets bringing up comedians you’ve never heard of. You know, the diamond in the rough, pulling them out nowhere to give them a shot. It’d be like a great movie… or like ‘The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh’ [laughs].” As for the possibility of a reunion with his “Original Kings of Comedy” co-horts, Steve Harvey and D.L. Hughley, he’s leaving the decision up to Harvey. “Me and D.L. are currently touring for ‘The Comedy Get Down.’ Steve has a hundred TV shows and he’s retired from stand up,” he said. “So he’d know better than me if there’s a shot at changing that up.” “Cedric the Entertainer: Live from the Ville” premieres on Netflix Sept. 16. Check out a preview of the special in the clip below.
