Zeteo Rewind 2018

LOST + FOUND Introduction

Hey youth leaders!

We're so glad you got to be a part of Zeteo 2018: Lost + Found! Thank you for bringing your group to Altoona to share the experience with us. We pray that Jesus is using this event as a part of your regular work in discipleship among teenagers. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you do. You are truly making a difference in the lives of your youth, whether you can see it or not.

It's our mission as a ministry to provide Christ-centered events and resources to equip you in discipling your students. Given that mission, we are excited to present to you this Zeteo Rewind curriculum! There's no perfect way to ensure the “Mountain Top” experience becomes part of every day life, but we've prayerfully created this lesson to help you in that effort. It's designed to aid in processing the event, as well as incorporating into every day life what Jesus spoke over the weekend. It's also designed to save you the time and effort of planning Youth Group so you can focus more on the relationships, and so you can take a deep breath after being responsible for an entire group of teenagers all weekend!

Read through each section of the material and tweak as necessary to fit your group's needs. We recommend previewing the video as well. It will be made available on snlym.com the week after Zeteo. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. We'd also love to hear how it went, and how we might be able to better improve it for the future! Know that we are praying for you and your students, and we're so appreciative of all you do.

Much love, The Salt 'n Light Team Worship

You've likely noticed by now that we are passionate about worship! If you're able, provide your students with a time of worship to focus their hearts on Jesus. You can do this before or after the Opening Activities. You might also choose to have a closing worship set following the Response. If you don't have a live band, playing a couple songs with the lyric videos can work nicely as well. If you'd like to use the songs we sang in worship at Zeteo, check out the Zeteo 2K18 playlist on Spotify! If you don't have access to Spotify, a complete list is below.

Pick one or more of the following options as theme-related opening activities.

Heads Up Seven Up

We all had a moment of recognition when Parke and Rocky mentioned “Heads Up Seven Up.” Some of us were filled with childlike excitement, others with instant anxiety. If you've never played, the directions are simple. Select 7 volunteers to stand in the front of the room. Everyone else must put their heads down (with closed eyes), and their thumbs up. Each volunteer must quietly tap the thumb of one person in the room. If your thumb is tapped, put it down. Once all 7 have selected someone, they return to the front and the leader yells, “heads up seven up!” All those who had their thumbs tapped then stand, and one by one they guess who they believe tapped their thumb. If they're wrong, they sit back down. If they're correct, they take that person's place up front. Play as many rounds as you'd like.

Lost + Found

Take a trip to your church's Lost and Found closet, box, etc. If you don't have a Lost and Found, consider gathering random objects from around the church to form a pretend Lost and Found. Have students form groups of 2 or 3. Each group must pick an item from the Lost and Found and do one of the following (leader's choice):

• Imagine the story of where this item came from and how it got lost, and tell or act out that story (You can do this for fun, or choose to award the best story/re-enactment.)

• Find an item that best describes who they are and/or where they are at in their life's story (Note: This option works better if done by individuals, not groups. You could also ask students to bring an item from home to accomplish the same purpose.)

Handshake Competition

Like the “Heads Up Seven Up” gesture, handshakes are a fun way to be creative and have a unique connection with someone! Have students pair up (with someone they know, or someone they don't know: leader's choice!) and create the best handshake they can in 5 minutes. Have each pair perform the handshake in front of the group, and vote on the best one! Take a video of the winner and share it on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #ZETEOhandshake ! Discussion and Response For the rest of the session, have your students sit with their small groups, where they can all see and hear what's on the screen. Play the Zeteo Rewind: Lost + Found video, pausing as long as necessary for each discussion. The video includes a very brief review and lesson, as well as some sharing from the cast. These are intended to facilitate discussion among your students and leaders, which we believe is one of the most important aspects of processing an event and putting what we learned into practice! The discussions are designed to be used in small groups. Some discussion segments have several questions listed. Use as few or as many of them as you'd like, and pause on the discussion screens for as long as you need. When you get to the response time, play some quiet worship music in the background. Create your own playlist, or use the Zeteo 2k18 playlist on Spotify.

Video Outline • Introduction from Creative Arts Director, Christie Miller • Video Overview ◦ Themes: Friendship, Family, Future • Sharing from the Cast // Discussion Questions • Response Time • Bonus Material ◦ This section is the more or less uncut version of what the cast had to say! They spoke so much truth and wisdom during our video interviews with them that we simply could not include it all in the curriculum. If you think your students would benefit from hearing some of their “uncut” wisdom, check out this section. Warning: it's LONG and there is overlap from the curriculum section so it's always clear what they're talking about. To help you figure out what might be worth your and your students' time, below is a list (in order) of the topics they expand on. We love this uncut section not only because of the wisdom these teens share, but also because you get to see their “bloopers.”. Enjoy!

◦ Topics covered: ▪ Accountability IRL ▪ More on character/family relationships ▪ Getting through “What if...” ▪ Thoughts on the future IRL Challenge Cards

Included in this curriculum are Challenge Cards. We've discerned specific, tangible action steps students can take to invite God into the chaos of their friendships, family relationships, and future plans and concerns. The video instructs leaders to hand out Challenge Cards following the small group discussion surrounding that topic. Talk through the cards with your students during the discussion portion, and allow them the response time following the video to fill in the blanks. Make sure they feel equipped to put the challenges into action!

If you can, print the Challenge Cards on card stock, and print the “Challenge Cards Front” document on one side, and the “Challenge Cards Back” document on the reverse side.

We hope this material is helpful to you and easy to use! Our prayers are with you as you continue discipling your students! Bonus Material
