A new Vicar has been appointed to our parish. He is the Revd Paul Roberts. His wife is called Rosie and they have two children, Jack who is 3½ and Ben who is 8 months. At present Paul is a curate in the Lugwardine, Bartestree Group of Parishes. He grew up in Malvern, so he knows this area well. His Licensing will be on Monday, 2nd July at 7.30pm. Paul and Rosie will live in Bodenham Vicarage but of course he will be the incumbent for the whole Maund Benefice – all seven churches and the five parishes – Marden withAmberley, Sutton St Nicholas & Sutton St Michael, Felton, Preston Wynne and Bodenham . Being a country Vicar of multiple parishes is now a more challenging assignment than it was in the past, when each parish had its own Vicar. It is hoped he might be provided with some administrative help and that the garden at the Vicarage will be tidied up before Paul and Rosie move in. We are now in the Season of Lent and looking forward to Easter. In Holy Week we shall share the Services at Sutton St Michael. They have arranged for Canon Dr Maureen Palmer, from the Cathedral to take the Maundy Thursday Service at 7.00pm and the Good Friday Service at 2.00pm. On Easter Day, Sunday 1st April (although it is the 1st Sunday of the month) we shall have a Sung Eucharist Service at 9.30am, taken by Prebendary David Roberts. There will be no Evensong that day. Before then on 11th March we have Mothering Sunday, when we give thanks for our mothers and all they have done for us. At the 9.30am Service that day, mothers and grannies will be presented with a small posy. The tradition started when the young domestic staff at the big houses were given the day off to go home and would pick a bunch of wild flowers on the way to give their mothers. After what seems a long cold winter, spring is definitely on the way. Primroses and daffodils are out. There are lambs in the fields. Blossom and leaves are appearing on the trees and our thoughts are turning to our gardens. If you need some plants, do come to Liz Davies’ Plant and Shrub Sale and Coffee Morning, in Church on Saturday, 17th March from 10.00am to 12.00 noon. Easter is very much a time of new beginnings with the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Day and its message of hope and joy. Now with the appointment of our new Vicar too, it is very much a time for us as a parish to look forward and celebrate. .

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN – UPDATE

Copies of the representations made to Herefordshire Council in response to the Regulation 16 Consultation on the Bodenham Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) are now available. You can find them on Herefordshire Council’s website at https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/directory_record/3031/ bodenham_neighbourhood_development_plan and also on the Parish Website at http://www. bodenhamparish.org.uk/evidencebase.asp . As you will see, there were 17 such representations – some from Herefordshire Council departments, some from statutory consultees, such as Welsh Water, the Environment Agency and Natural England, one from a local resident, one from Wellington Parish Council and three from developers, one of which contained information indicating an intention to apply for planning consent for up to ten houses at the East end of Millcroft Road. Mr Richard High, who has a lot of experience of examining NDPs, notably those of smaller towns and villages (including, for example, Breinton’s Plan), has now been appointed to examine our NDP. All being well, the Examination will start in late March and, although Mr High may make an unannounced visit to Bodenham, we may well hear nothing until we receive his report and recommendations. There are three possible recommendations that he can make – that the Plan is unacceptable in its present form and needs to be extensively revised and resubmitted; that the Plan can go forward to referendum, subject to certain modifications; or that the Plan can go forward to referendum without modification.e W await the outcome!
