Government Overview’ ​ ​ Congress

● Arizona has nine Congressional Districts

● After the 2018 elections, five are currently held by Democrats, and four are

currently held by Republicans

State Elected Offices

● Arizona has seven elected state executive offices: Governor, Secretary of State,

Attorney General, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mine

Inspector, and the Corporation Commission.

State Legislature

● Arizona has 30 Legislative Districts (LDs).

● Each Legislative District elects two one State Senator and two State

Representatives.

● All members of the State House and State Senate are elected every two years

● After the 2018 elections, the State Senate has 17 Republicans and 13 Democrats;

the State House has 31 Republicans and 29 Democrats.

‘Party Organizing Structure’ ​ ​

Precinct Committee People The precinct is the smallest political unit and the beginning ​ of the party organizing structure. Each precinct elects Precinct Committee People

(PCs) to serve as the link between the Democratic Party and voters in that precinct.

Legislative District A Legislative District is a much larger political unit. There are 30 ​ Legislative Districts (LDs).

County Party Maricopa is organized at both the county and LD level. Pima County is ​ organized at a combination of county, LD, and neighborhood level. The rest of the state is mostly organized along county lines.
