‘Arizona Government Overview’ Congress
● Arizona has nine Congressional Districts
● After the 2018 elections, five are currently held by Democrats, and four are
currently held by Republicans
State Elected Offices
● Arizona has seven elected state executive offices: Governor, Secretary of State,
Attorney General, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mine
Inspector, and the Corporation Commission.
State Legislature
● Arizona has 30 Legislative Districts (LDs).
● Each Legislative District elects two one State Senator and two State
Representatives.
● All members of the State House and State Senate are elected every two years
● After the 2018 elections, the State Senate has 17 Republicans and 13 Democrats;
the State House has 31 Republicans and 29 Democrats.
‘Party Organizing Structure’
Precinct Committee People The precinct is the smallest political unit and the beginning of the party organizing structure. Each precinct elects Precinct Committee People
(PCs) to serve as the link between the Democratic Party and voters in that precinct.
Legislative District A Legislative District is a much larger political unit. There are 30 Legislative Districts (LDs).
County Party Maricopa is organized at both the county and LD level. Pima County is organized at a combination of county, LD, and neighborhood level. The rest of the state is mostly organized along county lines.
