And the belief is by no means misguided. There are other external fac- tors that have brought about this change besides the unemployment rate. Nirmal Thapa participated in the event for the team NepaliBytes (first runner up) – creating an on- line portal for Nepali books. He says, “Technology has made it easy to start new ventures, especially in the IT field. Thanks to technol- ogy, barriers to entry have been reduced and you can reach many people at a very low cost.” The contribution of advancement in technology is not limited to con- sciously awakening our youths but also providing a low cost platform to initiate their ideas. This has mit- igated the risk to startup ventures to a huge extent; as a result more young aspiring entrepreneurs can actually work on their ideas with- out having to worry about the finances. Thapa also tells me that there are more number of support groups available for entrepreneurs, and the platform is steadily grow- ing in our community; Startup Weekend is an example. Samdup is currently doing his MBA, and plans to work on a few more of his ideas simultaneously. Jaiwal is currently studying IT and has also set up an IT company. Thapa finished his studies abroad and is now working at Parakhi. com (a startup venture). He plans to take NepaliBytes even further. Be it these few factors within these young people, or society, en- vironment and time that they live in, I believe the change is here and it is not limited to these few par- ticipants, but a common conscious awakening. The future members of our society are not going to blame the government or their fel- low citizens, but active members finding innovative solutions to problems and limitations in their community and nation. As Thapa tells me, “the great thing for en- trepreneurs in Nepal is that there is so much to be done,” that’s how an entrepreneur, and most young Nepalis think, finding opportuni- ties for innovation in problems. ! Buckwheat packs in more protein in comparison to rice and wheat and is also considered as a cholesterol lowering food. More often used to make dhedo (a thick sticky porridge), I consider it a stroke of genius to have incorporated the use of buckwheat in place of flour. Do not go by the look of it as it may look a bit displeasing because of its color. Its texture is delightfully light, it is tasty, and healthy of course. A note - remember to eat them piping hot, as they tend to get a bit dry when cold.
