Listed below is a summary of the boards and commissions appointments that are scheduled for the January 24, 2017 City Council meeting. Name Bank applications are available for review in the City Clerk’s Office.

Two Board Policy - Persons are eligible to serve on one additional Council appointed board/commission when serving on the following boards: Fire Prevention Code Appeals Board, Groundwater Committee, Law Library Board, Local Board of Building Code Appeals, Natural Event Mitigation Advisory Committee, Public Art Expanded Committee, Towing Advisory Board, Transportation Toll Facility Advisory Committee, and the Utility Review Board. Citizens are permitted to serve on a Council appointed board and a Mayoral appointed board or Regional board at the same time. A. B. Chesapeake Commission on Health and Well Being – 4 appointments (Page 11) There are four (4) appointments to consider due to term expirations and one resignation. Incumbent Robert W. Finn, Jr., is eligible and interested in being reappointed. The remaining vacancies are for:

City Attorney Jan Proctor has recommended Meredith Jacobi be considered for the City Attorney representative. The remaining vacancies are for:

D. Chesapeake Interagency Consortium – 2 appointments (Page 65) There are two (2) appointments to consider due to one term expiration and one resignation.

The vacancies are for one (1) City Council representative and one (1) children/family services representative.

E. Chesapeake Youth Committee – 3 appointments (Page 90) There are three (3) citizen vacancies to consider due to term expirations. Incumbent Kendra Matthews-Taylor is eligible and interested in being reappointed. There are several eligible applicants in the name bank.

F. Human Services Advisory Board – 2 appointments (Page 132) There are two (2) appointments to consider due to term expirations. Incumbent April Elizee is eligible and interested in being reappointed.

G. Library Board – 4 appointments (Page 152) There are four (4) appointments to consider. The two incumbents are not eligible for reappointment, and there are two new attorney positions.

Library Director Victoria Strickland-Cordial has recommended Mayrant “Tunkie” Stone and Kevin Monroe be considered for the two citizen positions, and Kevin Cosgrove, Sanita Sherard, or Anthony Thiel be considered for the two attorney positions.

Norfolk is currently one of the Virginia Department of Social Services’ pilots for the Strengthening Families Initiative. This team facilitates parenting skills classes as well as the Fatherhood Development group. •Center For Aging—responsible for the oversight and management of a contractual relationship with Norfolk Department of Human Services and Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia to provide comprehensive services to our senior citizens. Although no longer a contractual relationship, the two organizations continue to have a successful relationship to meet the needs of our seniors. •Early Childhood Educational Initiative—took a leadership role in the initial planning and implementation of Norfolk’s “Ready by Five” program. The program is now integrated into the City’s programming. •Adult Protective Services—responsible for ensuring all referrals alleging abuse and neglect are investigated and services offered to protect vulnerable seniors. Currently the only locality in the State implementing a Structured Decision Making tool for APS. •Responsible for the oversight of several federal, state, and city grants including Promoting Safe and Stable Families, Community Development Block Grant, Human Services Grant, and Juvenile Community Crime Control Act funding. •Served as Interim Comprehensive Services Administrator from 2010-2011.
