MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends in Christ,

People who visit our parish often remark about something many of us take for granted. They tell me how good is the music. In many Catholic Churches the music is much less than perfect. There is a reason for that. Pastors are often stressed about finances, and music for Sunday Masses sometimes gets the “short end of the stick” when it comes to parish expenses.

We are singularly blessed here at St. Christopher’s with an outstanding music director Mrs. Patricia Gallo- Terrenzio. Pat is a wonderful organist and the people she brings in to lead the singing are also excellent. The problem we are currently experiencing is that we do not have enough people to be leaders of song. I am sure there are some people in our parish who have a pleasant voice and who could lead the singing. Maybe you did it in a former parish. Perhaps you never thought you had a voice that is good enough. We’re not looking for an every-week commitment. It could be as infrequent as once a month if that’s what you prefer. Please give it some consideration and call Pat at 215 990 0965. We have a very good music program. Your participation could keep it that way and maybe even make it better! The pandemic has been a real problem in so many ways. In addition to the physical problems caused by the disease, there is also the isolation that people in places like nursing homes and hospitals had have to experience with- out the physical presence of their loved ones. One of the things that would not have even countenanced in the past was the wearing of a mask. The majority of our parishioners have been vaccinated against the virus. They are not re- quired to wear a mask, but they are encouraged to do so. Those who have not been vaccinated should most definitely wear a mask. This September we are requiring children in our school and PREP programs to wear a mask. There are cases when children find it difficult to tolerate the mask. We don’t want to lose children from our school or PREP pro- grams because of the mask requirement. There are visors/face shields which some have used in lieu of masks. These seem to be a reasonable alternative if the mask has proven onerous. This is just another way the pandemic has made life very complex, to say the least.

Let me thank those of you who have already responded to our annual appeal which we call the “Block Collec- tion.” We sent out the letters and envelopes early this year because of the looming launch of our capital campaign. The Block Collection is one of those important collections that stays here in our parish to assist in maintenance and improvements of our buildings and grounds. Thank you so much for your support.

Enjoy the final days of summer.

Sincerely in Christ,
