Holy Thursday

Processional O Christ Within the Quiet Room (Tune: I Heard the Voice) 1. O Christ, within a quiet room you met with friends as Friend and, kneeling, washing dirty feet, you loved them to the end. We cannot cross the bridge of time to meet you there tonight; so come across the ages, Lord, to share your love and light.

2. Come, break again the bread for us and pour the cup of grace. Come, speak the words that lift the veil that hides your holy face. Come, wash our sin-soiled hearts with love, our greed-spoiled lives refine. Come graft our wills to yours, O Christ, as branches to the vine.

3. Then send us from this quiet room to follow your command, to touch our neighbors near and far with love’s uplifting hand. As once you took the basin, Lord, and knelt in lowliness, make us your servant people now to comfort and to bless.

4. Your promised Spirit, Christ, we need to strengthen and to guide; your risen life to live in us when faith has nearly died. When tested, tempted, trembÕling, Lord, when love leads to a cross, then help us know your gift of peace, transcending pain or loss.
