“Family Ties” Spring 2018 Session Think Spring! Mondays, January 29 – May 14, 2018 (14 weeks) (Family Ties will not meet on February 19 and April 2, 2018) Sharing Day Performance: Monday, May 14, 2018 – 7:00 pm in the Corning Auditorium (Students meet during the day as regularly scheduled. They then participate in the Sharing Day Performance at 7:00 pm for family and friends. This performance is free and open to the community.) Daily Schedule: Students rotate through four 55-minute classes in visual arts, theatre, music and dance . All students meet for lunch and outdoor time from Noon-1:00 pm . (Students should bring their own bag lunch .) Homeschool Curriculum Overview: The Family Ties Homeschool Program provides enriching, hands-on arts experiences designed specifically for homeschooled students ages 5-13 . Students are divided into two age groups: lower school (LS) and upper school (US) . Caring, experienced faculty guide students through visual arts, theatre, music and dance classes . Students share what they have learned with family and friends when they gather for a celebration of the arts at the close of each session . During this session, we’ll celebrate friendship and all things spring!

Fees & Enrollment for Music Instruction Music students are asked to commit to taking 18 half-hour lessons during the 2018 Spring Session . However, new students may register for private music lessons any time throughout the year . Hour- long lessons are also available .You can inquire about an instructor’s schedule and fees by calling our Customer Service Center at (440) 951-7500 . Music students may pay their tuition in full (and receive a 3% early registration discount if they register by Saturday, January 6, 2018), or they may take advantage of a payment plan . If using the payment plan, students pay the first payment installment at the time of registration . The four remaining installments will be charged to a credit card (Visa/MasterCard/Discover) provided at the time of registration on the following dates: February 16, 2018, March 16, 2018, April 20, 2018, May 18, 2018 . If using a payment plan, ONLY the Willoughby resident discount is applicable . No other discounts apply . Continuing Music Students Students who took music lessons during the Fall 2017 Session and wish to continue with the same lesson day and time during the Spring 2018 Session, have until the end of the business day on Saturday, January 6, 2018, to retain their current timeslot .Tuition must be paid by that date either in full or via the payment plan option (see pg . 42) . Students who have not registered by the end of the business day on January 6, 2018, risk losing their timeslot. Need an extra lesson or two? As the session ends, please note that music students are always able to add a lesson, as long as it works within their instructor’s schedule . Earn College Credit for Music Instruction Junior & Senior High School Students Did you know that you can receive college credit for private music instruction here at The Fine Arts Association? Lakeland Community College (LCC) offers a College Credit Plus (CCP) to qualified high school juniors and seniors who enroll in music lessons at Fine Arts as an LCC student . For details on how to receive college credit through the CCP program, contact tcooper@lakelandcc .edu or call 440-525-7261 . Qualified high school juniors and seniors can also earn college credit by taking music classes at LCC such as Music Theory, Music Appreciation or by performing in one of the LCC community ensembles: concert band, orchestra, chorus and/or jazz orchestra . Current Lakeland Community College Students Students who are planning to transfer to a baccalaureate program in music are advised to take private lessons on their major instrument or voice during every semester in which they attend Lakeland, and should contact Dr . Fine Arts Association Scholarships are offered for Music Therapy through a variety of sources including the United Way of Lake County . To obtain a scholarship form, contact the Customer Service Center at (440) 951-7500 x100 . Third party pay is welcomed and accepted from Deepwood, NEON (Cuyahoga County and Lake County), Family and Children First Council, Zanes Foundation and several other organizations . Private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted .

Individual Sessions are scheduled as 45 or 60-minute sessions once per week (30 minute sessions may be available as determined by the MT-BC) . Sessions are designed to meet the individual’s language, communication, developmental, social, cognitive or motor need(s) . The music therapist supports the individual’s journey by establishing a positive therapeutic relationship that allows the individual to meet attainable goals determined by the therapist in close collaboration with parents and/or caregivers . Individual sessions include a progress summary . An assessment is required prior to registration .

Social Groups are available for 2-3 peers (typical or similar) in 45 or 60-minute sessions once per week . Sessions focus primarily on proper social interaction, eye contact, sharing, teamwork, taking turns and more, all in the context of group music making . The music therapist works closely with each individual to address their specific social need within the group setting . FAA current MT clients should seek prior approval from your MT-BC before enrolling in a social group . New FAA clients must register for a 30-minute trial session with a MT-BC for placement into a social group .

Adapted Music Lessons are available on guitar, piano, drums or voice for children through adults with special learning needs . Lessons are taught by one of our trained music therapists who incorporate adaptive techniques to facilitate a successful music experience for the individual on his instrument of choice .

Off-site Services are available to preschools, private/public schools, nursing homes, hospitals and other community-based agencies in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties . Whether for a group or individual session, services are tailored to the specific needs of the agency .

The Fine Arts Association’s dance program allows students to enter at any level and/or style appropriate to both ability and age . Students new to Fine Arts with previous study in dance will be scheduled for a placement assessment by appointment with a dance faculty member . Students are evaluated annually to continue proper placement in a challenging class setting . Please note: ages are guidelines for each dance level .

Young dancers are offered creative movement and /tap combination classes which provide a basic foundation of dance terminology and movements . Using familiar locomotor and non-locomotor steps, students develop increased coordination and spatial awareness . After studying at these levels, it is typical for a student to continue their dance education in classical ballet, tap and/or jazz . Serious dancers should consider pursuing study in all three styles as the demands of the profession require versatility . For tap, jazz and modern students, parallel study in ballet is strongly recommended as dancers refine placement/alignment while performing demanding stylized . Students studying in the upper levels will develop technical proficiency, style and performance qualities as they are challenged by advanced vocabulary and complex combinations . Ages are approximate guidelines. Students are placed in class based on experience and current ability.

Dance classes (except for Yoga classes) will perform in either the Early Childhood Dance Showcase, the Junior Recital OR the Senior Recital . These will be held at Andrews Osborne Academy . There are no costume fees for this year’s recitals . Complete information will be distributed during the Spring 2018 session . Drawing Classes FAA Visual Arts Faculty Small class sizes, studio-based setting and professional instruction are the Janeane Grisez basis of FAA drawing classes .
