Ko Moe Yangon — Operations in approximately half of Myanmar’s seafood processing factories have been suspended due to a shortage of raw materials, according to Vice Chairman U Hnin Oo of the Myanmar Fisheries Federation. Of the estimated 150 seafood processing factories nationwide, 80 have temporarily shut down, the vice chairman said. He at- tributed the shortage to depleted stocks. “As Myanmar does not carry out breeding activities on a large scale, the sector relies on fishing for a livelihood. The production of fishing sector is now falling and we are facing a shortage of raw materials. As a result, about half of our factories had to be closed temporarily,’ U Hnin Oo told The Global New Light of Myanmar. “In Vietnam and Thailand, factories rely on breeding as well as fishing for profits. This keeps production rates on an even keel,” U Hnin Oo added. He suggested that the gov- ernment should invest greater ef- forts into developing the capacity of the fisheries sector by offering assistance, research for breeders and infrastructure. Myanmar’s fisheries exports dropped from 345,267 tonnes in the 2013-14 financial year to 338,210 tonnes in the 2014-15 financial year. —GNLM Workers at Ocean Harvest (Myanmar) Limited’s factory in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon. — Photo: Jessica Mudditt Myanmar to manufacture Hepatitis prevention and care diesel trains next year in National Strategic Plan Nay Pyi Taw— study at CNR Dalian Loco- vided by Chinese experts, Nay Pyi Taw— which affects related ment and prevention,” she Myanmar Railways is set to motive and Rolling Stock around 20 trains are slated National Consultation diseases like liver disease said. begin manufacturing diesel Co. in Dalian, Liaoning to be manufactured in My- Meeting on Development and liver cancer and so The two days meeting trains locally with financial Province, China.
