Goal: Create a new TIR SAE Document: SAE J2954/2 within J2954 Taskforce (same as present structure). Make main SAE J2954 WPT LD with reference to buses only.

Scope: SAE J2954 establishes an industry-wide specification guideline that defines acceptable criteria for the interoperability, electromagnetic compatibility, minimum performance, safety and testing for wireless charging of electric and plug-in electric heavy-duty vehicles.

Rationale: There are some significant differences between Power Classes of LD J2954 (3.7-22kW) and HD J2954/2 (up to 250kW) vehicles for wireless charging. For this reason a separate HD document was created to address bus and rail applicationsSAE INTERNATIONAL of WPT. Differences between LD & HD WPT

Frequencies tend to be lower because of switching losses Parking location geometry differences with LD case Primary alignment methods will probably be different. Vehicle geometry considerations Possible issues with exposure to high field levels requiring physical barriers on vehicles or charging areas Foreign object detection differences? Ground clearances are greater so nature of foreign objects and detection challenges are different than LD case EMC - issues of interference within the vehicle and between vehicles will differ from the LD case because of differences in parking spaces and distances between charging system and possible susceptible electronic subsystems

•First Phase: TIR J2954 (Technical Information Report) LD Guideline published – Specification for Vehicle and Ground Infrastructure WPT and alignment – Downloadable under: http://standards.sae.org/j2954_201605/

• H.D. Charging TIR J2954-2 Kick-off in February 2017 in California around SAE Hybrid Forum

• Planning to invite supplier and bus OEMs to join team.

• Basis of Safety, Performance Interoperability and Alignment from the Light Duty SAE J2954 document. However, it is possible that frequency and methodoloy differ, for instance

•Monthly SAE J2954/2 Webex Planned in 2017
