Connect. Engage. Inform. 2016 annual report 2015 FROM OUR LEADERSHIP

e live in complicated times and in a world that doesn’t always make sense. Building relations across cultures, understanding global issues, and embracing that which is different are critical W to the health and growth of communities everywhere. For nearly 65 years, Global has been on a mission to connect, inform, and engage Minnesotans with others from around the globe and move the world in a positive direction. As our state undergoes rapid change and increasing diversity, we strive to provide experiences, broaden perspectives, build skills, and shape future generations to learn and care more about the world.

These guiding principles drive us to excel and lead with even greater relevance and impact. Our Classroom Connection program for elementary students, which promotes global thinking through hands-on cultural activities, has tripled in size in the Twin Cities metro area. We remain a top U.S. destination for hosting international diplomatic and professional exchange visitors from the U.S. Department of State, raising Minnesota’s global profile and presence. Our Great Decisions program, coordinating discussion groups on world affairs across the state, continues to have the highest participation rate in the country. And, we are engaging new broadened audiences through public conferences, ongoing Star Tribune editorial articles, and public programs with expert speakers in partnership with the Friends of the Central Library on important foreign policy topics.

These programs reach from the young student to the retiree and engage all Minnesotans, including teachers, students, elected officials, international scholars and visitors, immigrant community members, corporate professionals, diplomats, the press and media, countless volunteers, and the community at large.

Growth and impact are only part of our story. In March 2016, we changed our name to – an identity that better reflects the connections we create and communities, organizations, and individuals we serve. Valuable insights from We strive to provide this ongoing transition are helping us ensure we connect, inform, and experiences, broaden perspectives, build engage Minnesotans for years to come. skills, and shape future This year’s report highlights the work of our dedicated and talented staff and generations to learn important contributions made by valued members and supporters. We are proud to and care more about help build and live in a community that values vibrant international engagement, where the world.” rich conversations thrive that inform us about the world and its complexities, and opportunities to connect with people on a global scale are part of our daily lives. Global Minnesota’s role of connecting, informing, and engaging the people of this state is only possible because of dedicated members, who are the heart and soul of the organization.

Thank you for your continued support and for exploring the world with us.
