2012 saw a significant growth in the number of teams participating in Rugby League.

Leagues Edinburgh Eagles finished top of the Central Conference League and played Aberdeen Warriors in the Conference Grand Final:

Easterhouse Panthers won the Under 17 Central Conference and Faced Aberdeen Spartans in the Under 17 Grand Final

Schools Cup The second year of the Saltire Schools Rugby League Cup was deemed a success, Increased participation and a great grand final event rounded of a very competitive schools championships.

Greenwood Academy (Irvine) worked their way through the Regional Rounds and came out strongly in the quarter and semi final stages to face Williamwood High (Clarkston), who had a similar run of success in the regional and national rounds, in the S2/S3 Final

Westhill, 2011 semi finalists, brushed aside 2011 Champions, Aberdeen Grammar in the Semi Finals of the S4/S5 competition to meet Duncarig High (East Kilbride).

Wheelchair Supported by the RFL’s Community Development Department and Glasgow City Council a series of taster sessions were ran in Glasgow on a monthly basis as a pilot to bring this version of Rugby League to Scotland.

Each session was attended by at least 20 wheelchair users and none wheelchair users looking to gain an insight into the game.

The pilot was deemed a great success. A group of the new converts took away their experiences and established Glasgow Eagles Wheelchair TAG Rugby League Club.

Three other projects are now under way in Ayrshire, Dundee and Edinburgh

HE/FE Scotland Rugby League launched the first organised University Rugby League 9’s Circuit in 2012.

Four Universities from across Scotland have committed to completing four rounds of 9 a-side Rugby League with a view to expanding to a 13 a- side league in 2013.

Teams University West of Scotland University of Strathclyde Napier University St. Andrew’s University

All four clubs have target’s of achieve Sports Union Recognition by completing the league, becoming constituted and running their own affairs.

All four are well on their way to achieving this.

PERFORMANCE Scotland New structures in competition brought new challenges to all Scotland squads

In the Alitalia European Cup Scotland faced Ireland and England Knights. Ireland are nothing new to Scotland however 2012 was the first year a full Scotland team would face any English opposition.

Another first for Scotland was the two games were to be held in Edinburgh, the first time the full Scotland squad had played in the capital. The City of Edinburgh Council funded both games.

Scotland A A new look Community Game Four Nations would test Scotland A further than ever before as England committed their Lions squad (the best of the best in the England Amateur Game), the two other nations Scotland A is familiar with having had a long history of tournaments with them, those being Ireland A and .

Game one against Ireland, in Belfast never happened as Northern Ireland succumbed to heavy rain and flooding the two remaining results are listed below:

Scotland Scotland’s Under 18 programme mirrored 2011 with the Scotland Resident’s playing a two game series in Under 18’s the Auld Enemy Challenge against England Colleges.

The full squad came together and would, for the first time ever have two games against Wales and England Community Lions. England Community Lions withdrew and were replaced by Cumbria.

Wheelchair Scotland Rugby League made further history in 2012 sending the first ever Scottish Wheelchair TAG Rugby League team to the inaugural Wheelchair Rugby League Four Nations.

For their first outing on the International stage the inexperienced Scots proved themselves very worthy of the shirt and found the experience very useful to build on for the 2013 World Cup

Scotland The 2012 Player Development programme was split Player Development into to two Regions the North of Scotland and Central Scotland.

Each region under went a total of 16 hours coaching at Under 15 and Under 16 age groups

Both Regions played each other twice culminating in the selection on the Scotland Under 16 squad which toured Hull in August 2012.

The Scotland Under 16’s went into a residential camp in Filey and played two games; East Hull and West Hull, results for below
