The Memorial Golf Outing held on September 30, 2014 at the Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains drew 120 golfers with over 160 people attending the post-golf banquet. More importantly, the charity event brought over $21,000 in Damien Owens’ memory to the benefit of Cranford Family Care, a non-profit organization helping needy families of Cranford. “We originally figured we could get maybe 50 to 60 golfers and raise $5,000 on the high side for our cause but our numbers exceeded even our wildest dreams.” Damien Owens, a native of Inchicore, Dublin, Ireland was the much loved manager-greeter for the last 6 years at the House until his sudden death from an illness this past May. “He was just a lovely man, always greeting us with a smile and a warm handshake. A true gentleman,” a patron said of Owens. The memorial was the brainchild of O’Donovan, proprietor of the Kilkenny House Restaurant and Pub in Cranford. “When we started the pub some six years ago, Damien my best friend, was right there with me all the way.
