Paperback. Book Condition: new. BRAND NEW, True Storey: My Life and Crimes as a Football Hatchet Man, Peter Storey, "True Storey" is the compelling autobiography of notorious 1970s football legend Peter Storey, dubbed 'the bastard's bastard', who gained a reputation for ultra-violence on the pitch and had a capacity to find even greater trouble off it - a fact borne out by a string of criminal convictions and several jail sentences. A key member, as their midfield enforcer, of the resilient Arsenal team that won the European Fairs Cup followed by the cherished Double in 1970-71, Storey was a confirmed ladies' man who loved a drink. In the mid-'70s, Storey's pub, the Jolly Farmers in Islington, became a magnet for north London villains and he rubbed shoulders with Great Train Robber Tommy Wisbey and Howard 'Mr Nice' Marks, Britain's biggest drug smuggler. Storey talks candidly about the crimes he committed and the spells in prison that blighted his life. He reveals the truth about his feud with George Best and relays an astonishing account of how Bertie Mee tried to make him miss the 1971 FA Cup final against Bill Shankly's Liverpool side because the Arsenal manager wanted... RUTH WINSTON COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWSLETTER NO.26. Autumn Edition 2020 Unfortunately, we are again in lockdown and so we will try to bring you a newsletter once every two weeks. Therefore, please send me or Liz any news you have. If you send direct to me my email address is [email protected]. We cannot accept videos because everyone is not on email. So, looking forward to receiving some interesting news from you. We all love baked beans and probably find them a good standby, when we don’t know what to have for a meal. So here is a short history of them. In 1886 Heinz Baked Beans were first sold at the Fortnum & Mason department store in London. After opening the first overseas office in London in 1896, the company opened its first UK factory in Peckham, south London, in 1905. This was followed by a second factory at Harlesden, north-west London in 1919. Production was started at a former munition’s factory at Standish near Wigan in 1946. A new factory opened in Kitt Green, also near Wigan, in 1958. Between 1941 and 1948, the Ministry of Food classified Heinz Baked Beans as an “essential food” as part of its wartime rationing system. The Heinz factory in Kitt Green is one of the largest food factories in Europe, and produced more than 1 billion cans of food every year. In the United States, Heinz Baked Beans had for many years only been available as grey imports in “British Goods” speciality stores. As of October 2016, they are now available as official imports in many US supermarkets and speciality stores, with a label similar to the older British label, but customised for the US market (US spelling and US Nutrition Facts).

  • Classic Geoff Barnett Despairs As the Header by Clarke (Out of Match Picture) Beats Him
Classic Geoff Barnett despairs as the header by Clarke (out of Match picture) beats him. I think I could cry! Forget “third Leeds United 1 Arsenal 0 time lucky” – bring on the Champagne! Exactly, no fortune involved here, this FA Cup Final Saturday May 6, 3pm Wembley Stadium Attendance 100,000 was a classic Leeds performance: stifle Goal Clarke (53) Referee David Smith (Gloucestershire) Booked Hunter, the opposition, play assured football, Bremner (Leeds), McNab, George (Arsenal) and administer the killer blow, a fully justified FA Cup triumph after the Arsenal (4-3-3) Barnett, Rice, devastating defeats of 1965 and 1970. Simpson, McLintock, McNab, Armstrong, Storey, Ball, Surely Arsenal were desperate to CLARKE JONES Graham, George, retain their Cup? It didn’t look like Radford (Kennedy 73). it. Leeds were composed throughout GRAY GILES BREMNER LORIMER and other than a Charlie George snap shot against the bar in the second half, he and his fellow danger men, Radford MADELEY HUNTER CHARLTON REANEY and Armstrong, were completely HARVEY ineffective. Goalkeeper Barnett, in for the injured Bob Wilson, never settled Sub not used: and a confident David Harvey, a late Bates replacement for Sprake, clearly won the battle of the men in green. Sounds pretty comfortable? Not exactly, there were niggly fouls in the opening 15 minutes – in fact Allan Clarke “caught” Alan Ball inside the centre- circle after just five seconds! It took us a while to settle, and it was a cagey first half although Clarke somehow connected with a Lorimer volleyed cross and shaved the bar with a header, and at the other end Ball met a corner perfectly first time on the edge of the box and Reaney hacked the ball off the line.

Matches – 25 March 1972 –Leeds United 3 Arsenal 0 First Division – Elland Road – 45,055 Scorers: Clarke, Jones, Lorimer Leeds United: Sprake, Reaney, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Madeley Arsenal: Wilson, Rice, Nelson, Storey, McLintock, Simpson, Armstrong, Ball, George, Kennedy, Roberts (Marinello) When Arsenal won the League and Cup Double in 1971, it came as a serious kick in the guts for Leeds United and manager Don Revie: not only had the Gunners denied the Whites the title they had been favourites to win for so many months, but in one attempt they had achieved what Leeds had come so close to securing on at least three occasions in the previous six years. The Gunners‟ visit to Elland Road at the end of March 1972 provided Revie and his men with a perfect opportunity for payback. A win would almost certainly bring to an Frank McLintock and Arsenal manager Bertie Mee with the League championship end the Gunners‟ dwindling hopes trophy the Gunners won in 1971 of retaining their championship and at the same time boost their own chances. Certainly form favoured Leeds: on 26 February the Gunners had been fourth, but had since slipped to ninth, while United were currently third, five points short of leaders Manchester City with two games in hand. The Yorkshiremen had hit a rich vein of form at Elland Road, winning 13 games in a row and conceding only five goals in eleven matches. Nevertheless, Leeds acted as perfect hosts. After completing their now customary pre-match warm up by throwing plastic footballs to the crowd, they provided a guard of honour to applaud Arsenal onto the field as a tribute to the Gunners‟ Double triumph.
