WELCOME TO ST. MARTIN OF TOURS

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

St. Martin of Tours parishes. For more information, please send an email to Please pray for these Sr. Catherine Tran, LHC at [email protected] candidates as they receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, along with all who receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. As we conclude the 50 days of Easter, we celebrate the Pentecost, which marks the magnificent outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. After receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles literally went out SMT MINISTRIES & SERVICES into the whole world to proclaim the Good News. They were simple, uneducated fishermen who, led by the Altar Servers: Rhiannon Jensen Holy Spirit, spread the Good News of Christ, shaped [email protected] the future of Christianity and will be known through the Annulments: Fr. Ben Le end of times! Truly, along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, [email protected] God has done great things through them. Arts & Environment: Kathryn Richards [email protected] Pentecost prepares us, like the apostles, to begin our Baptismal Prep. for Parents & Godparents: faith journey publicly. I really like the definition of the Fr. Donie Keohane Sacrament of Confirmation as “Going public.” The [email protected] Apostles lived in obscurity most of their lives, yet on Bereavement: Diana Wheatley that first Pentecost, they “went public” with their faith. [email protected] We too should follow their example and, consumed by Bible Study: Fr. Donie Keohane the power of the Holy Spirit, go forth and make our faith [email protected] public. As I discussed on the Feast of the Ascension Bulletin: Ximena Marin last Sunday, our mission is simple: to announce and [email protected] share the good news and invite people to experience Children's Faith Formation: Rhiannon Jensen the faith. We need not persuade or impose, only invite. [email protected] Through our own Christian joy, we become witnesses Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, First Communion, to the Gospel. Confirmation, Sunday School, and Children’s Liturgy of the Word Today is also considered the birthday of the Church Committee for the Poor: Katie Woods because, with St. Peter’s first sermon, the Apostles [email protected] went public and converted 3000 people on that first Enrichment Series for Adults: Fr. Donie Keohane Pentecost. The Church has continued to grow [email protected] throughout the centuries, yet sadly, we are Homebound Ministry (Communion for homebound): experiencing a decline in parts of Europe and the Diana Wheatley United States. There is a growing trend of the “Nones,” [email protected] who claim no religious affiliation. As members of the Knights of Columbus: Michael Nasr Church, actively “going public” with our faith helps [email protected] others to see, hear and grow in the Word of God. Lectors & EMs: Corrine Baldassano The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Holy Trinity. [email protected] We need to continually ask the Holy Spirit to lead us, Marriage Prep & Matrimony: Ximena Marin to guide us, to help us do the things God wants us to [email protected] do. It is the Spirit that moves us to go and do something Music Ministry: Rick Wilkinson in the world, compelling us to share in words and deeds [email protected] what God has done for us. In this spirit of charity, Rectory: Sonia Gudelman please pray for the Holy Spirit to lead the Universal [email protected] Baptisms, Funerals, Mass Intentions Church and our brothers and sisters. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you in your life today. We Respect Life Ministry: Erin Lynch always need a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on [email protected] the face of the earth! Dear Parishioners:

Our 10th annual Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Scholl Canyon. This will be the fifth Gordon Tuthill Memorial Tournament. This year, we are trying to encourage more support for the tournament by allowing sponsors and golfers to choose where their funds are to be distributed by choosing between Tuition Support, Respect Life, or Veterans. Respect Life funds will go to Lila Rose at www.liveaction.org and to KofC purchases of ultrasound equipment. Veteran support will be directed to programs at the West LA Veteran’s hospital. Tuition Support will go to Resurrection Parish School. For details, please visit out website: www.stmartinoftourskofc.org or email me directly at [email protected]

Thanks for your support Knights of Columbus Council 14660.
