SUCCESS COACH

We are recruiting a Success Coach to support pupils online achieve to their very highest potential in their sixth form education and develop the skills and mindset required for success at School and beyond.

THE ROLE OF A SUCCESS COACH AT SCHOOL ONLINE

You will be working with academically ambitious students situated in the UK and across the world studying towards Pearson Edexcel International AS and A level qualifications and preparing for university and a life of learning, leadership, service and personal fulfilment.

Success Coaches work with pupils and their parents or mentors to support pupils as they progress through their education. They provide pupils with guidance in becoming effective independent learners and assist them as they make university application and career plans, and take the steps needed to work towards these plans. They are the first point of contact for parents or mentors to liaise with Harrow School Online and address any pupil concerns in pastoral or non-academic issues.

YOUR POSITION WITHIN THE SCHOOL

Line management for the position is to the Harrow School Online Principal. You will be working alongside the SENDCo and affiliated to the Skills and Mindset Department. You will be a Pearson employee, but will have additional support from Harrow School, in particular from the Learning Support department. We are primarily seeking Success Coaches for full-time roles although part-time roles may additionally be available.

WHAT WILL A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE LOOK LIKE?

You will be an empathetic and pupil-centred professional who is able to advise, motivate and support pupils through regular, individual coaching sessions and weekly online lessons. We are looking for professionals who have previous experience of working in a secondary school environment with high achieving pupils, and have held a role where they have had responsibility for supporting pupils with their university applications, including applications to universities in the United States. They will show the ability and drive to develop the highest standards of support for pupils and a willingness to be involved in setting up and shaping all aspects of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will: ● provide advice and support to pupils and their parents or mentor on matters related to the pupil’s learning and progress at Harrow School Online, their university application and their career plans; ● advise and assist pupils in their applications to leading universities both in the UK and overseas, becoming an expert on course selection and entrance requirements and offering support to pupils with their applications and personal statements; ● deliver live lessons on a Skills and Mindset programme which covers the skills, strategies and mindset required for pupils to be successful at Harrow School Online and in their life beyond the School; ● liaise with teachers and tutors and coordinate support for pupils who are in need of additional assistance in order to achieve to the best of their potential; ● liaise with the SENDCo over the Learning Skills support afforded to Harrow School Online pupils; ● supervise a range of extra-curricular activities, encourage pupil participation in the extra-curricular programme and monitor pupil progress in the House Award programme; ● help to shape and extend the pastoral and learning support offered to pupils at Harrow School Online; and ● be proactively involved in other key areas of the school’s development, particularly at this early stage of the initiative.

REQUIREMENTS

● Experience in coaching and supporting individual pupils and in teaching classes or small groups of pupils in a sixth form setting. ● Experience in assisting students with preparation for making successful applications to top-tier universities in the UK and overseas. ● Ability to teach the skills, strategies and mindset required for success at School and beyond. ● Strong inter-personal and communication skills. ● Excellent organisation and administration skills. ● Impressive academic qualifications, including a good degree and ideally a qualification in coaching. ● Resonance with Harrow School Online’s ethos. ● The desire to continuously develop their teaching and coaching practice formally and informally. ● Willingness to learn about, and become advocates of, online learning technologies.

Previous experience of teaching or coaching pupils online is welcomed but is not a pre- requisite for the role.

FLEXIBLE WORKING HOURS AND TEACHING LOCATION

Our school term dates are based on those of Harrow School, with a September to June academic year. You are additionally required to be available for around five days in August for induction training.

Our pupils are distributed over a range of time zones and to accommodate those based in Asia some lessons may be timetabled early in the mornings UK time. Our current timetable begins at 0800 but there is a possibility that earlier lessons may be required, possibly from 0600, with an early finish on days when you have an early start. There is flexibility to schedule some of your workload at hours that best suit you.

You are welcome to work full-time from home, or Covid-19 measures dependent, in the Pearson office in central . Occasionally you will need to attend meetings or training either in the Pearson offices or at Harrow School, but this will be the exception rather than the norm.

Candidates who meet our initial shortlisting criteria will be invited to submit video answers to a number of questions to assist in shortlisting for interview. Interviews will be held online in February/March.

As part of the interview process, candidates will be asked to prepare a sample lesson and teach a portion of this lessons as part of the interview. When we observe your teaching, we will be looking, in particular, for relevant attributes outlined in ‘Requirements’.

ABOUT HARROW SCHOOL ONLINE

Harrow School Online is a fully online, coeducational sixth form school offering an A level education to allow pupils across the globe to enjoy the benefits of virtual learning without leaving their homes. It was developed prior to the current pandemic through a collaboration between Harrow School (via its trading subsidiary, Harrow School Enterprises Ltd) and Pearson, and launched for first teaching in September 2021.

The School delivers the core curriculum through a combination of professionally authored self- study materials, targeted classroom lessons and one-to-one support sessions. In September 2021 Harrow School Online will offer Pearson Edexcel International AS and A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics, and additionally offer pupils the opportunity to take an Extended Project Qualification. Further A level subjects will be introduced in future years.

Full-time pupils are additionally engaged in a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, ensuring they receive a full and varied education. An elective programme gives pupils the chance to study a range of courses from Stockbroking to the Chemistry of Art. A host of clubs and societies include Debate Club, Computer Programming Society, Chess Club and Film Club. Pupils additionally attend a Study Skills and Mindset Course. Harrow School Online girls and boys attend regular online meetings with a House tutor, as well as fortnightly meetings with a Success Coach, in which plans are formulated for university and beyond. An optional summer programme will bring pupils together at Harrow School in London prior to the start of term.
