9:00 AM – 10:00 AM CRAFTING CONTAGIOUS IDEAS IMPERIAL BALLROOM Speaker: Jonah Berger, James G. Campbell Associate Professor of Marketing, Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Author of Best-Selling Book Contagious: Why Things Catch On Why do some companies, products and services get more word of mouth than others? It’s not luck. There’s a science behind it. Social media gurus always preach that no one talks about boring products or boring ideas. So you would think that more interesting products and brands get talked about more. Surprisingly, they don’t. Mr. Berger will discuss the science behind word of mouth and the six key factors that push people to share content and demonstrate how to leverage the concepts to craft messages, providing a set of specific, actionable techniques for helping information spread and ideas catch on.

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM THE U.S. AND GLOBAL ECONOMY: NEAR-TERM OUTLOOK IMPERIAL BALLROOM Speaker: Matthew Slaughter, Associate Dean for Faculty and Professor of Management, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth What forces can sustain economic recovery? What forces might restrain it? Are certain companies, industries, and countries better positioned to lead a recovery? The recent financial crisis has demonstrated how inherently difficult economic forecasting is at all times — and especially now, amidst so many forces at play with few if any historical precedents. Mr. Slaughter will provide a framework for answering these and other pressing questions with probabilities and scenarios, all based on key facts and insights from recent history with a conversation about three alternative scenarios of recovery — strong, tepid, or none. His framework will provide expert guidance on where product development is stalled, demonstrating that now is the time to capitalize on the opportunity to reexamine offerings and timelines.
