In the first story of Ekambrehswara - Parvathi undertakes a penance to win over her Lord Shiva on the banks of the river Vedavathi , under a mango tree. Shiva, with an intent to test Parvathi, commands and Ganga to disrupt her penance. Parvathi appeases them and continues to make a linga out of mud, the element of earth, witnessing which the river Vedavathi increases her force in an attempt to destroy it. When Parvathi hugs the linga in an effort to protect it from Vedavathi, she unconditionally surrenders to the Lord who appears before her and accepts her.

In the second story, Parvathi, who still has not realized her true form, mocks at Lord Shiva while he is penance. Lord Shiva commands her to go down to earth and undertake a penance to gain divine knowledge. Parvathi, realizing her folly, comes down to earth and undertakes a penance under the Jambu vriksha and makes a linga out of water, signifying the element of water of an underground stream. Lord Shiva appears before her and grants her knowledge.

In the third story, an elephant, a snake and spider fight it out to prove their devotion towards Lord Shiva and end up giving their lives in the struggle. Amazed by their devotion, Lord Shiva grants them life and decides to reside with them in Kalahasthi

In the fourth story, Goddess Parvathi playfully, closes the eyes of Lord Shiva which plunges the world into darkness. Enraged by this act of Parvathi, Shiva commands her to practice penance . While Parvathi does as directed at the Annamalai mountains, Shiva appears in the form a ray of light emerging from the agni he holds and sets the cycle of life moving

In the final story, lord shiva with his consort Goddess Parvathi dances at Chidambaram with the Gods accompanying Him, creating a festive ambience and signifying his omnipresence in the element of Space.
