Uptown is a laid-back residential area on Chicago’s Far North Side. North Broadway is known for its trendy cafes, jazz lounges and bars. Other nightlife and entertainment venues include the Uptown Theatre, the Riviera Theatre and the venerable Aragon Ballroom, which opened in 1926. In the 121-acre Graceland Cemetery are the burial sites of many famous Chicagoans. Montrose Beach has seasonal swimming and volleyball.
The Riviera Theatre | Architect: Rapp and Rapp | Style: French Renaissance Revival | Opened: 1917 Located in Chicago’s historic Uptown theater district, at the intersection of Racine, Broadway and Lawrence the Riviera Theatre is a central part of the Chicago’s past and present. It was originally built as a movie theater and later transformed into a private nightclub in 1986. The Riviera Theatre is now one of Chicago’s premier concert and special events venues.
