Death & suffering due to Medical Negligence is a crime & the criminal shouldn’t go unpunished A death in the Operation Theatre due to negligence is planned murder, anyone can be a victim of Medical Negligence – the Rich & Affluent, the famous & powerful… It could be someone living next door… It could be you! There are several reported cases on Victims of Medical Negligence (celebrities and common man). These were shared on Facebook & Twitter pages.

“Lawtitude-2020”

On 6th of February 2020, Dept. of Law organized to host its annual event “Lawtitude” for the ​ consecutive 2nd year. The idea of this event is to make students debate between political and moral ​ correctness with respect to topics taken out of real life Indian state which leads to a healthy discussion between students who are keen to withhold their grounds by their thoughts.

This event was conducted at Thakur Ramnarayan College of Law , Dahisar. The Principal of Law college Dr.Anil Singh, was present as chief guest and honorable judge. His esteemed presence and experience brought in liveliness in the moot court room. All participant was well prepared with topics. Total Participation was 40 students.

The topics for the event selected were -

1. CAA (citizenship amendment act) 2. Revocation of temporary Act, Section 370 The topic selected were to overcome disagreement and verbal contests. The perfect combination was required for a strong debate session.

Career Guidance Lecturer- B.Com Learners.

Bachelor of commerce offers understanding in Accounting, Economics, Business Law, Taxation, Insurance and Management.Career Guidance lecture was organized on 12th March, ​ ​ ​ ​ 2020, to guide the participants on entrance examinations for Law and the increased employability options after pursuing a degree in law. The Resource Person also spoke about some careers a law graduate can pursue along with alternative legal careers which can be explored. A degree in law not only let you practice as lawyer in the court, in the company but also opens up career option in sector like corporate management, legal services and administrative services. There is plethora of opportunity for law graduates.

● On 16th July, 2019 a Guest Lecture was organised for MCom (Ecom) learners at 9.30am in ​ the presentation room. The topic of the Guest Lecture was Future career in E-Commerce. ​ ​ The speaker was Mr Maunash Jani, who is a software developer in Arkotics. ● On 16th August, 2019 a Guest Lecture was organised on LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN ​ ​ E-COMMERCE. Mr Rajiv Gupta from Progressive Edutech was invited to speak on the ​ topic. Students had a good interactive session with him. ● On 10th Dec, 2019 another guest lecture was organised for MCom Ecom learners. Mr ​ Santosh Shenoy, Vice President; E-Retail, Lumina Datamatics was invited to address the learners on Ecommerce. ● On 11th Dec, 2019 an industrial visit was organised for the learners to ORIGIN Logistics. ​ 28 students were taken to Origin Logistics in Bhiwandi. Mr Sudhir Sikka, co founder of the company warmly welcomed all and explained in detail about the role of Logistic and supply chain management in ecommerce, how returns are managed etc. ● ENTERNET, the annual event of MCom Ecom was conducted on 9th March, 2020. Many ​ innovative games were planned by thelearners like TikTalking; Memeovation and Advert. More than 70 students from different department participated in thses interesting games. ● MCom ECom conducted 30 hours certificate course on DIGITAL MARKETING for the students of THAKUR COLLEGE. 16 students regularly attended the lecture and took certificate. ● Social visit was conducted from 5th Jan to 21st Jan, 2020 to Sambhaji Municipal ​ ​ Uchamadhyamik Prathamik shala at Lokhandwala. There the studentsof 5th and 6th ​ ​ standards were groomed for mathematics Olympiad and basic knowledge of computer were given. Students donated First Aid kit to the school and also taught those students about personal hygiene.

Department of Accountancy had organized a guest lecture on the topic “Financial literacy” on 6th ​ ​ July, 2019. Speaker for the session was C A Sahil Agarwal , Finance Head For Mondelez Food Pvt. Ltd. Around 80 students of Bcom final year had attended. The session gave brief insights into basic understanding of financial concepts.

A Guest Lecture on “Compassion and Respect Towards Family and Others” was delivered by ​ Ms. Shushmitha Bubna , a social Activist working for visually impaired people to lead a normal th life on 13 July,2019​ . She conveyed the message to understand and respect the family, friends and ​ society.

Polio Vaccination Campaign in association with MCGM R South Ward on 16th July, 2019, Where ​ 30 learners taken part and offered their services to Society.

“Finscoop” an Annual Inter- Collegiate Quiz Competition was organized on 8th November, 2019 ​ an attended by 60 learners across . First prize was bagged by Abhinav College. Balbharti college wa the runner up.

“Environmentalism” was organized on 6th January, 2020 and speaker for the guest lecture is Mrs. ​ ​ Sumaira Abdulali, founder of . She focused on the issues related to sand mining and noise pollution. Session was attended by 85 learners from BCom.

The Department of Accountancy has been organizing the Annual Accountancy week and this year, variety of activities were held from23rd January, 2020 to 27th January,2020 . Through E- Filling ​ learners learn about filling the Tax return online. Music Mantra taught the learners, how to handle ​ ​ stress with the help of Music. Debate Competition gave a platform to the learners to put forward ​ ​ their views and ideas on various topics. Yoga Session for female learners was also organized. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

A Seminar on “Gender Sensitization” was delivered by Shree Gauri Sawant , Transgender ​ ​ ​ ​ Activist, Founder NGO Ajicha Ghar, Sakhi Char Cowghi Trust. On 5th February, 2020. The session ​ was attended by 386 learners and faculties. Department also donated a Laptop for Ajicha Ghar NGO. She spoke about the challenges faced by the transgender and convince our learners to accept transgender and make the part of main stream.

Union Budget 2020 Session was conducted by Mr. Subhashchandra Choudhary on 7th ​ Februray,2020 for TYBCom learners 72 students participated. This lecture made the students aware about the components of budget, preparation of budget, sources of Income and Expenditure and their proportion.

Department of accountancy Invited Mrs. Anuja Dhanuka for expert lecture on “Effective Mutual ​ Fund Management” on 8th February, 2020. It was organized to give learners an insight of Mutual ​ ​ Fund Market and sensitized them for early life investments. “ACONTE -2020”, An Inter – Collegiate competition was organized on 15th February, 2020. The ​ ​ event marked the presence of 151 learners from various colleges across Mumbai. The activities were Power Point Presentation, Quiz, Business Budgeting, Snakes and ladder and Elocution. HR College became the victorious contingent whereas Best CL was bagged by St. Francis College.

A Guest Lecture on ‘Digital India and Digital Detoxification’ was organized on 20th July 2019, ​ ​ with Mr Jogesh Jain who is Author, Speaker, Trainer, Founder of J.J School of Employability and ​ ​ ​ Rank Holder in ICWA.

Keeping the fun and warm welcome going on and to make them comfortable in front of the nd camera, an introductory 'Face the Camera' was organized on 22 ​ July, 2019. ​ ​ ​

A 48 Hour Short film Making workshop was arranged from 9th to 11th August, 2019.The alumni ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ who are working as filmmakers were invited to direct the groups.

D-Day was an Event that was initiated by the students of FYBMM. It had Pre-Events, Open mic, ​ Roast Battle, Dance battle, Street play and an After movie Challenge. The event was held on 30th ​ November, 2019.The Best Contingent won by Scarlett Witch- Division B, Best PR Trophy won by Contingent Terminator – Division C.

The Department organized its Annual International Short Film Festival (8th edition) ​ ‘Cortokino... Unleashing Global Cinema’ with the theme ‘Rendezvous 2000s’ in collaboration ​ with IFFI and was supported by Iran Culture House.

Well Known Actor Mukesh Khanna conducted an Acting Workshop on 3rd February to guide our ​ ​ ​ students.

A Guest Lecture was organized on Backpack ‘Travelling and Vlogging’ on 26th February by our ​ ​ ​ very own Alumni Ms Pooja Akula and Mr. Jai Singhal who are well known travelers. ​ ​ ​ ​

Screening of the Short Film ‘Muktiparv-The Rennaisance’ on 26th February 2020,the film has ​ ​ won an award at C.V.W Foundation Film Festival.The Director Mr. Sahil Shirwaikar and the ​ producers Mr. Bushan Nemlekar and Prof. Mrs. Vijaya Nemlekar were also present during the ​ ​ screening.

As part of Social Responsibility, ‘LGBT+ Awareness Rally’ was organized on 7th March 2020 ​ followed by screening a few LGBTQ+ Short Films.

A Guest Lecture was conducted on ‘Media Landscapes: India and Abroad.’ On 26th February by ​ ​ ​ Mr. Rahul Joglekar who has been a Reporter and Producer at BBC, he has also worked with ​ ​ NDTV and New York Times.

Economics Department [2019-20]

Department of Economics and its De Planning Forum (student association) is the economic powerhouse of the college which tries to promote sound framework of economic consciousness among students and teachers within the institution. Arthsamhita- scripting new lines of equilibrium is the departmental blog which ​ stimulates this consciousness on digital space regularly.

Essay writing competition on “World Population Day” was organized on 11th July, ​ 2019 to create awareness on issues related to population among the learners of science and commerce. “20th Kargil Vijay Diwas” was celebrated through a Group Discussion on 29th July, ​ ​ 2019 was to discuss the war strategies of the Kargil War and it’s outcome. Several issues associated with national security and geo-politics were deliberated upon with 84 students in participation.

A role play competition “Air Crash” was conducted on 24th August, 2019 where ​ participants impersonated famous personalities in a bid to fetch the last parachute in the scenario of fictitious air crash. The Ganesh Chatruthi Project from was conducted from 2nd to 12th September, ​ ​ 2019 for the learners of degree college to understand the consumer perception with respect to the Ganesh festival and diagnose whether consumers are going eco-friendly.

Turncoat-where switching sides is a skill was held on 20th December, 2019. ​ ​ Learners presented both the sides of the argument on current issues addressing our nation and world. “Learning to Fly” was the session on value education by Ms. Payal Bhattad on ​ 23rd December, 2019. She is a visually-impaired Professor of History at Wilson ​ College who inspired learners to take up challenges and face adversity with a smile.

Students and faculty members attended a Seminar by Nobel Laureate Professor Eric ​ ​ Maskin on rd “Introduction to Mechanism Design” on 3 J​ anuary, 2020. The seminar was part ​ of the Centenary Celebrations of Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy, University of Mumbai at its Fort campus. Know Your Market is the cost benefit analysis based activity for F.Y.B.Com. st learners during the Annual Fun & Fair held on 1 ​ February, 2020. ​

Annual Presentation on “Union Budget 2020-21 and Economic Survey 2019-20” on 6th February, 2019 was held to discuss the process of budget preparation and the ​ major takeaways from the budget. The learners diagnosed various aspects of Economic Survey as well as the interrogated various heads under budgetary provisions.

Career Counseling Session by Ms. Urvashi Chawla, a Career Strategist and ​ ​ Founder of Personal Excellency enamored the learners with prospective career planning and personality development. Her mantra M&M LIC – Meet-Ups, ​ Mentors, Linkedin, Internship, Courses and Certificates was an instant hit and a very practical approach for prospective future.

Black Swan: An Unpredictable Labyrinth –The Intercollegiate fiesta held on 7th ​ March, 2020 had various academic and fun-based activities like Budget-O-Meter (Budget Preparation), Shipwreck(Role Play), Film-O-Nomics (Movie reviews) and Scholastic Decathlon. Ms. Devyani Irani, Director, Mind Storm Software Private ​ ​ Limited was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function who spoke about importance of Financial Literacy. R.A. Podar College won the Best College and Best CL Award. The Departmental Report in COVID-19 times

Black Swan 2.0, the alter fest was organised by Department of Economics and Dé Planning Forum from 14th to 18th May, 2020 which was aimed at shaking off the ​ ​ boredom from the pandemic and allowing people’s creative juices to be channelized to better used. The intercollegiate festival was open for students and teachers where they participated on “Captivating Captions???”- The photo captioning competition, “Mera Masterchef”-Making a Cooking home video which is economical and nutritious and “Creative Chronicles”- to creatively present life pre and post COVID. With over 180 participants from 25 colleges across Mumbai, the fest was one of its kind endeavour for the department.

A National Webinar on “Re-evaluating COVID-19 for New Business Opportunities” was organised by IQAC & Department of Economics on 19th May, 2020. The session ​ was headlined by Mr. Ramnath Pradeep, Ex-Chairman and Managing Director, Corporation Bank who stressed upon the need for outmanoeuvring uncertainty for a prospective future. Mr. Pradeep focussed on having an optimistic approach to work and business and enchasing the business opportunities which are about to arise.

The presentation including the Q&A was appreciated by more the 2000 participants who appreciated the detailed analytic approach of the speaker and his takeaways for people and economy in general.

nd Knowing Mahatma-2 ​ October ,2020 ​ -An online quiz competition was conducted through in order to observe the International day of Non Violence. Total 170 students responded, out of that 160nstudents qualified and awarded with e certificates.

A Group Discussion Event was organized on 31/10/2020 from 5 pm to 6 pm on the War Situation in Armenia and Azerbaijan by Department of Economics and De Planning Forum over Zoom Platform. Total 44 students participated from different programs and exchanges their views over the topic.

Financial Markets Programme intends to promote higher level of intuitive and cognitive skills amongst the learners to make them better investors, traders and agents of tomorrow. “Finacle” our ​ ​ Monthly Student Journal continues to promote sound financial thinking amongst students about various perspectives to Financial Markets. A Guest Lecture on 29th June, 2019 by Mr. Lalit Kumar Kashyap,an Ex-ONGCian ​ ​ ​ representitive and Recipient of ‘National Safety Award’ by the President of India addressed the learners on the fragility and importance of protecting the environment in order to create awarness regaiding environmental issues among learners.

Gender Awarness and Sensitivity Lecture was scheduled on 6th July, 2019. The resource person, ​ Ms. Mina Tilakraj, an Inner Power Optimizer and Travel Expert addressed the learners on ​ ‘Gender Parity, Awarness and Sensitivity’. She higlited the gender bias war that leads to a ​ disturbed social equation, expanding its constrains on an individual’s social and family development to strike a balanced equation among genders.

An Orientation Program to welcome the First-Year learners, themed “Aarambh” was organized ​ on 22nd July, 2019, to provide a platform for young learners to showcase their talents and orient ​ them to the prospects and procedures of College life for the years to come.

An Alumni Interaction with Mr. Jay Shah on 28th August, 2019, who shared his experience, ​ ​ ​ provided important tips for preparing for various competitive exams and employment availability in financial markets.

‘Mockstock’, the Annual Intra-Collegiate Competition of the Department provides a real-life ​ platform to role-play the stock market mechanism on 17th September, 2019. This competition ​ provided a platform for the learners to understand trading in stock market, by trading various commodities, equities, IPO and different currencies and experience broking. Teams from different courses enthusiastically participated in the events. Anti-Plastic Week, from 23rd to 28th September, 2019 was observed with an intention to create ​ ​ ​ awareness regarding the hazards of plastic on the environment, through posters, videos and movies depicting anti-plastic ideology.

To provide a practical exposure a Study Tour to Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) was ​ scheduled on 1st October, 2019. Students got an opportunity to interact with SEBI officials and ​ learnt about practices followed by SEBI while regulating the capital market of the nation.

Value Guidance Lecture by Ms. Mamta Pandya, Entreprenuer and Art of Living Trainer was ​ ​ organized on 14th January, 2020. The session aimed at bringing clarity of thought with respect to ​ Goals in life and all the rightdoings and wrongdoings of life. She also taught the learners various excercises to boost their concentration and self calm.

‘Intelligent Investor’ was the theme for the Guest Lecture by Mr. Sunil Lala, CFO and Founder ​ ​ of S.L. Wealth that was organized on 20th January, 2020. He elucidated on the importance of early ​ investing and setting financial goals, by providing tips for saving and investing with the example of componding interest. This instilled a sense of interest to inculcate a healthy saving practice at a young age among the learners.

Skill Development Lecture on ‘Equity Investing anf Trading’ was organized on 3rd February, ​ ​ 2020. Mr. Umakant Pathak, An Entrprenueur and Mr. Aditya Pose (Alumni), highlighted ​ ​ ​ ​ various oppurtinities in trading and investing in equities, through skills of understanding bar chats used while technical analysis to predict stock market behaviour by explaining the importance of discipline towards this market.

‘Finstreet – Let the Bull in you Growl’- The Intercollegiate Financial Festival was held on 7th ​ ​ February, 2020. More than 300 participants from 15 colleges participated in the event. The festival focused on providing a grass-root mock experience and a microscopic outlook into the financial market. The event was inaugurated by Mr.Mihir Kothalkar, CEO of 24 Karat Training. The ​ ​ festival caters to various events like Mock Stock, Crypto Chase, MCX Deal-icious, Money Multiplier, Fin-Bid and Casino. The festival promises to provide the best experience in Financial Market. N.K College, won the Best College and Hinduja College, won the runner up title.

Study Tour to ‘Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)’ was organized on 2nd March, 2020. The learners ​ ​ were exposed to the functioning of the stock exchange and learnt the origin of BSE, one of the oldest stock exchange of India. The tour was an interractive session that provided an insight to the learners regarding the various opprtunuities in the global stock market.

Webinar on the topic Managing the Crisis with Common Investment Strategies-1 st May2020 Covid 19 pandemic has affected our life not only health wise but also financially too. Many of us have a question in the mind, whether we need to re-evaluate our investments and how can manage the financial crisis. To address this issue, IQAC & Department of B.Com (Financial Markets) organised National Level Webinar on the topic, Managing the Crisis with Common Investment Strategies by Mr. Sanchit Taksali, Founder & Financial Planner, Investiture.in, on 1 st May 2020. Mr. Sanchit Taksali spoke about the various sectors of economy impacted by the Covid 19 and the effect on the stock prices of the companies under the sector.

Financial Quiz on the topic Impact of Covid 19 on Future Investment Pattern of Investors on 18 th May 2020. Information on the previous major financial crisis and how the financial market has overcome in the past as well some possible solutions for the present crisis was provided in a presentation. The sector which is worse affected as well as the opportunities available for the investors were given Based on the information questions were asked and the certificates were awarded Social Out Reach/Extension Work During the academic year learners participated in the the events organised by the college like, Swach ​ Bharat Abhiyaan ,River Rally.They taught the students subjects like English and Mathematics in ​ BMC School Hanuman Nagar.

The students from a total of 18 colleges had participated which included colleges of Mumbai, Lucknow, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan. It had various competitions like Debate, Quiz, Elocution, Face Painting, Parade, JAM, PowerPoint Presentation and many more. In total BAB had 32 Events. The main objective of BAB is to promote “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana”. The winners were ​ ​ awarded with Certificate and trophy. Students participated with great enthusiasm.

The session was about how the third ​ ​ gender, i.e. transgender are treated in our society. The speaker also told the story 5 transgender who struggled their lives either through bad commenting on them or they were thrown out of their house in their childhood times. But these all five achieved something in their life. The speaker also said that we should give them a chance or respect them as they are human beings too. The speaker said not only these were successful but there are many who struggled their lives to achieve something what they want in their life. So if we respect and support them, it will be a better society. ​ The speaker said let’s treat them equal and work together. The session was very good ​ because it was an open session about third gender. This session had made everyone understand the importance of acceptance of third gender in our society.

The English Literary Association compliments the Business Communication Department, as it aids in the all-inclusive growth of learners. Various Co-Curricular & Extra - Curricular activities are designed and defined to facilitate the development of various aspects of their mind and character. The events are also aimed to inspire Originality, Spirited & Affirmative thinking as well as augmenting Soft Skill of the learners.

ELA endorses the inventive mode of teaching - learning technique by aligning theoretical and practical knowledge of the learners by providing opportunities to interact with experts from Industry and undertaking Internships. Learners from the Degree & Junior College are encouraged to participate in various activities and competitions to help them prepare for the professional life. In the current academic year the activities and events organized for the benefit of the learners were:

❖ CORPORATE DISCOURSE

English Literary Association organized a Corporate Discourse on “Interpersonal Communication & ​ Emotional Intelligence” for the Degree College learners on 27th July 2019. Ms. Shruti Chitlangia, a ​ Corporate & Life Skills Trainer was the guest speaker. She spoke about the various aspects of Interpersonal Communication and how to be an effective communicator. She also enlightened the listeners about Emotional Intelligence and its importance in our lives especially in the contemporary times. Ms. Chitlangia made the discourse lively and interesting by conducting some activities with the learners and also by involving them in the discussion. The learners were also given tips on Formal Dressing and Grooming to help them with Job Interviews in the future. They not only gained valuable knowledge but also enjoyed the session.

❖ TALES SPIN

ELA organized On the Spot Story Writing Competition – “TALES SPIN” on 3rd August 2019. The ​ ​ ​ ​ competition was open to all the Degree College learners of TCSC and witnessed a passionate participation from all. The participants were given the themes on the spot, from different genres and an hour to spin their tales. The story writing competition evaluated the creative imagination of our learners as well as their innovative ways to pen down their thoughts on paper.

❖ SESSION ON VALUE EDUCATION

A session on Value Education was organized on 23rd August 2019 by the English Literary Association for ​ ​ the holistic development of the learners. Ms. Neha Kapadia, from Art of Living, spoke on the very ​ ​ ​ ​ important and relevant topic “Importance of Ethics & Principles in a Students Life.” Ethics & ​ Principles are an integral part of a students’ life as it helps them grow as virtuous human beings and upright citizens. The young learners appreciated the guidance and advice provided by the speaker. The session was especially useful in highlighting the significance of Ethics in a society rampant with corruption.

❖ SCRIPT ENTERPRISE

An Essay Writing Competition was organized for the learners in the month of August 2019. English Literary Association organized an interactive session of talks by experts from various fields on 9th ​ ​ Dec. 2019 to commemorate International Anti – Corruption Day. The session was organized with the ​ ​ goal to generate awareness amongst the students about the degenerative impact of corruption on the society. Poster Making & Slogan Writing Competition was organized by English Literary Association on 9th Dec. ​ ​ ​ ​ 2019. The theme was “Anti – Corruption". Creative & thought provoking renditions by our very own ​ ​ students, was displayed in the Seminar Hall on the occasion of International Anti – Corruption Day. All the posters, portrayed the deplorable evils of corruption existing in every aspect of our lives and also how to prevent it from happening.

It was an initiative by the ELA to campaign against Corruption and generate awareness about it. Graphical illustrations speaks louder than words as all the learners & staff members were made conscious of the various consequences of Corruption how to eradicate it through the captivating Posters elucidating the various aspects of Corruption. The pictorial demonstrations of ingenuity by all was appreciated by all.

She also enlightened the listeners about Formal Dressing and Grooming and its advantages of creating a positive impact on the interviewers. Ms. Mehta made the session active and stimulating by conducting various activities with the learners by involving them in the process of learning. They were also given guidance for Resume Writing and creating a Professional Social Media Portfolio. Ms. Peenal Mehta concluded the interaction with Q & A session and also offered Internship to the interested students.

❖ YOUTH AWARENESS PROGRAM

A Youth Awareness Program on “Emotional Luggage” was arranged for the Degree College Learners, in collaboration with the Satya Sai Organization on 7th February 2020. The motto for the session was to raise ​ awareness about the problems faced by the youngsters and how they can help themselves and others. A group of Learners from different streams presented the various aspects of Emotional Luggage and its impact on youth. They also highlighted the ways one can be emancipated from depression, anger, criticism etc.

❖ “COMPENDIUM”

The B & M REVIEW CLUB with the motto to cultivate analytical thinking and improve the prowess of ​ ​ ​ reading skills in the youth, particularly in the current technological era, conducted a Book & Movie ​ Review Sessions. The ‘Palace of Illusions’ was chosen for Book Review on 28th September 2019. A ​ ​ modern day novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, about Mahabharata, an Indian epic, told from the ​ point of view of an amazing woman, Panchaali. It also helped the learners to reconnect with Ancient Indian Indian history.

A very motivational Movie ‘October Sky,’ based on true story was screened for the Movie Review Session on 18th January 2020. The movie is about following your dreams, no matter how unachievable ​ ​ ​ they might feel. In the present times of strife and turmoil, a good movie can be inspiring and have positive ​ effect on youngsters. A BOOK & MOVIE REVIEW COMPETITION “COMPENDIUM” was organized ​ ​ ​ on 8th March 2020. Learners from various courses presented critical reviews of their favorite books as well ​ as movies.

❖ AWARENESS SESSION ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The session was organized on 22nd February to generate awareness about Human Trafficking, a serious ​ crime and a grave violation of human rights. Ms. Vanita Pandey & Ms. Manika Khandelwal, Experts ​ from Rescue Foundation, enlighten the students about this grave and global phenomenon - Human ​ ​ ​ Trafficking: A Social Evil. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of ​ traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims. According to the recent reports human trafficking has reached epidemic proportions.

They spoke about the efforts made by their NGO to rescue and rehabilitate the victims of Human Trafficking and also encouraged the learners to volunteer for Rescue Foundation in any way they can. The ​ ​ learners were also made aware of the various ways young children were lured into the traps of the human ​ traffickers and also to be alert. It was truly an eye opening session on a very dreadful and horrific evil existing in our society.

❖ “CONNEXION 2020”- Communication Beyond Border!!! ​ ​

An Inter Collegiate Literary Fest was organized on 29th February 2020 by the English Literary ​ ​ Association. A gathering of very passionate students from various colleges across Mumbai to participate in competitions like Quiz, Debate, Elocution, Presentation, Open Mic, Short Story and Essay Writing. Dr. ​ Nandita Roy, Principal, Gurukul College of Commerce, elevated the event as the Chief Guest. Jashn 2019 was one of the most exciting and memorable ​ experience for all the freshers who would cherish this lifelong. The eminent s​peaker for the session was CA Sahil Agarwal, Finance Head, Mondelez India Foods Pvt. Limited. He is a chartered accountant from the ICAI who was ranked 46th in CA final exam and he's completed his CFA course from CFA institute, USA.

On 22nd June, 2019 Mr. Jinesh Borad who is currently is working under a chartered accountant and ​ practicing his articleship. He is pursuing his chartered accountancy course and soon he will appear for his finals. He gave us wonderful and interesting lesson of career and corporate perspective.

On 6th of July 2019 The eminent speaker for the session was ex-student of BAF CA YASH GUNTLA he has ​ completed Chartered Accountancy, has 5 years of experience. The speaker for the smile lecture on 10 August 2019 was BAF Alumni Mr. Pratik Shukla also Performed in Malhar fest that is Asia's second largest fest. He is an actor and has done a corporate advertisement, 3 short films on YouTube and also performed for Shatrughan Sinha and BomanIrani in an NGO event organised by CFBP (Council For Fair Business Practices) and also won first prize for that event, Performed in the theater shows in Kala Ghoda Art festival in last 2 years.

On 28September, 2019 Darshil Bhandari is one of the alumni of BAF department. One of the most intelligent entrepreneur and because of his wit he was awarded the “Best Entrepreneur Award” in 2016 by Lion Dr. Nishikant Jha. He with his story inspired a lot of students and even motivated them that if he can then anyone can. He also offered Job & Internship for present students.

On 1st February, 2020 Malav Bhogaita shared their experience about how CFP is important in today’s time and g​ ave a brief about it.

The speaker for the smile lecture on 22nd February 2020 was Mr. Naman. He is currently pursuing BAF ​ from our college and is in third year. Other than BAF he is also doing another course i.e ACCA. Naman spoke about how one can manage both college studies and at the same time also pursues another course side by side.

Current Indian Economy Issues On 22 February 2020, a lecture was conducted on research in current Indian economy issues & reasons for recession in economy by Dr. Nishikant Jha. Total 52 students attended the lecture.

Mantra JUST 2 HOURS TO YOUR OWN ROAD MAP ​ ​ Bachelors in Accounting and Finance Department (BAF) along with the Department of Business Communication organized “MANTRA” on 14th September, 2019 It has been successfully organized by the BAF department since last 10 years, Mantra has always had a record for introducing interesting topics like CEO meet, Cybersecurity, mental health,etc. This year the session was conducted on the topic “Career Opportunities”. The session was conducted by Mr. Tanuj Poddar and Ms Neerja Bhargava.

WORKSHOPS

Goods and services tax awareness campaign

This workshop was conducted on 23 July, 2019. The main aim of this workshop was to enlighten all the students, teaching staff as well as non-teaching staff of Thakur College of Science and Commerce. The students shared the knowledge about the GST to various stakeholders along with its implications as it is the biggest tax reform system in India. The stream was divided into 5 main streams: Introduction, Rates, Registration, Input Tax credit, & Conclusion. Everyone appreciated the efforts taken up by the department of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and it was proposed to keep such workshop in future also.

Revised syllabus workshop

The Revised syllabus workshop for TYBAF Semester V & VI was conducted on 27th July, 2019 in ​ Association with BoS Accountancy University of Mumbai and Science and Commerce and Department of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance). Technical session was conducted by Resource Persons and we received a positive response from the various dignitaries, stakeholders and all the concerned authorities.

Work Shop on Financial Modeling

This week’s smile lecture was conducted for 3 consecutive days attended by 80 students on all three days on 26th 27th and 28th of August 2019 by the BAF department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce. The speaker was Mr.Kamaldeep Bansal a student of SY.BAF-D1 he is an eminent speaker and is also pursuing his career in the stock exchange and plans on his own start-up in the coming years. He spoke about Data mining, Financial modeling, corporate finance, Advance excel, and Business Ted.

PROMOTION OF SWACHHATA MOHUA APP with Western Railways: The promotion was conducted for 9 consecutive days done by 30 students on all nine days on 21st sept. to to 3rd Oct. of 2019 by the BAF department of Thakur college of science and commerce. A short skit was ​ prepared by the students of approx 2 min’s. Skit was all about how does app works and how it’s beneficial for us and society. The promotion conducted in college was from 21st sept. to 29th sept. By the last day i.e 249th sept. College was aware about Swachhata MOHUA app.

Promotion was not only limited to the college but was also done at borivali Station on 28th sept to 1st Oct. As soon as we reached station we thought it’s appropriate to take permission. The station manager ( Mr. Milind.M.Pawar ) gave us permission and was rather very happy later Mr.Milind not only gave us the permission but he also allotted us the main bridge which Connect’s east and west side of borivali for painting. 20 students including students of first year and group leaders of BAF department painted around 12 boards and a station wall which was dirty. The pictures selected for painting were all about cleanliness and saving resources which was indicating how we can save the nature, our locality and our country by keeping it clean and save resources in different way’s. Not only painting but on 2nd October, 2019 a skit was performed by the students of BAF department of Thakur college of science and commerce performed a 2 minutes skit which indicated how we can keep our locality clean and how does an individual can use the swachhata mohua app. Students worked very hard from 12:00am to 7:00 pm to send a message to the society that each citizen must keep his home, locality and society clean. At the end of the day the promotion was very successful and the feedback was taken by the public.

NATURAL FARMING:

The students of Thakur College of science and commerce initiated this event of natural farming on 20th October, 2019. The main purpose of the event was to gain knowledge about the importance of natural farming. 10 students from our department had taken part. Students reached college in the early morning and left for the Bhaskar Save Institution which is located in Umergaon,Gujarat. On arrival to the destination, students were mesmerized by the beauty of nature and were also fascinated by the great scenery. The students were then guided by the supervisor of the Bhaskar Save Natural Farming Institution. The supervisor explained in detail about natural farming and also encouraged students to participate. Students were curious and enthusiastic while gaining the knowledge about natural farming. Supervisor explained in detail on how natural farming supports water conservation and water health, helps in building healthy soil, combatting erosion. Natural farming encourages biodiversity and also fights the effects of global warming. Students also got a chance to interact with the locals and share their experience about about natural farming. It was a great and successful event.

04/01/2020 we visited D.D.B.S Embroidery in Amritsar , it is an embroidery making industry where the machines have been installed in a set of 12 exported from Japan . The woolen cut pieces have been placed on the machine pane on which the design which is digitally printed on the cloth and next process was embroidery getting stitched on the cloth. On questioning, students came to know that the cost of each machinery were approximately one crore rupees and the profit margin is comparatively more than the cost incurred. Once the work is done on cloth, the cost incurred on each piece is rs.350 and actually it is been sold in the market for Rs.900. There were 4 employees for every set of machines. Shortly cutting down the cost incurred for electricity, rent and other necessities the margin of profit is better than other industries shutting down because of losses.

08/01/2020 Vardhaman Textile, auto dyeing unit, Baddhi, Chandigarh.Vardhman group of ​we visited ​ ​ ​ companies is a major integrated textile producer in India. The Group has expanded and is ​ ​ largest textile conglomerate in India.There they saw the process of how the fabrics are processed ,dyed , and ​ ​ ​ printed . Process 4 was the final stage were the finished goods is being checked , packed and dispatched to the store godown as per the clients requirement. Factory price is being decided as per the status of client.

Activities of the Department

The department of commerce conducted 'English Communication course' with 30 learners from various courses, from July to September 2019. The aim of the program was to train the learners in vocabulary-building, sentence-construction, grammar and punctuation. Oral skills such as pronunciation, voice modulation, body language were also worked upon.

A bridge course was initiated for all the FYBCOM learners from 18th July 2019 to 25th July 2019, to make the learners aware about basic concepts of business for the enrolled learners to mend the gap in understanding the basics of commerce.

In collaboration with IIDE (Indian Institute of Digital Marketing) the department initiated a Certificate course on Social Media Marketing from 6th August 2019 to 10th August 2019 addressed by experts from the institute with the aim to develop digital skills related to advertising and branding on social media platforms.

A seminar on “Leadership in Gen-next” on 19th July 2019 was addressed Mr. Aditya Shastri (founder of 'That Indian Discourse', speaker at Bhagvat Katha) to guide the learners about 5 factors that determine success - culture, communication, clarity, credibility and commitment, also correlating the academics with the practical knowledge of corporate and entrepreneurial world.

​ A workshop by Art of Living was organised on 31st July 2019 addressed by Ms. Mamta Pandya. The aim was to guide the technique of stress management, to impart values and a stress free mind along with a violence free society.

A psychological counselling session – “Change your belief, Change your life” was organised for Degree students of all streams. The interactive session was facilitated by guest speaker, Mrs. Aarti Gupta, who is a renowned Reiki master, Hypo and Grapho therapist on 26th July 2019. The session fulfilled its objective of healing the mind, body and soul. The Singing Bowls enthralled the students.

An Intra-collegiate competition 'Brand flip' was organised on 9th August 2019 for all the degree college learners with 70 teams participating in various events like quiz, pehchan kaun, punch ka dum, brand mashup with the aim of enhancing the knowledge , creativity and art skills of the participants . The winning tittle was bagged by team ‘converse ‘

To experience the practicality of the different aspects of advertising, an Inter -collegiate competition “Ad Mad” was organised on 29th November, 2019. Various Mumbai colleges participated in the sub events like Ad Debate, Ad Quiz, Ad Sharas , Advertainment , Advertorial and Ad Brand . The Best college title was given to Nirmala College and Best PR trophy was awarded to Dalmia Lions College.

Annual Social activity was taken up at Samata Nagar BMC School from August 2019 to March 2020 with B Com learners. The objective of the visit is to make the school children aware about various social problems and educating them about personal hygiene ,good habits and bad habits , no use of plastic & corona virus etc. The sessions teach the students empathy and social concern.

An Interactive session was arranged for all B Com students from ‘Centre of Environmental and Research Education’ on 27th January, 2020. The guest speaker Ms Damini Shewkani & Ms. Shruti Krishnakumar covered topics likes climate change, waste management, renewable energy and carbon footprint assessment. This session made the students aware about the growing concerns about the Environmental Issues across the globe.

A Grand Fun-N-Fair was organised on 1st February 2020, ,on the theme ‘Flavours of India’. Learners from all courses participated enthusiastically enhancing their entrepreneurial skills. 38 Stalls were put up by the students consisting on Food, Articles and Gifts and Games.. The best stall in the Games category was given to Goa (Rubina Sheikh- BMS), the best stall in the category Food was Puducherry (Toral Agarwal- BAF) and in the category Article was given to Andaman (Sakshi Chowdhary- B Sc IT).

In accordance to the Directives of Modi government the department of Commerce initiated an orientation on 5th February,2020 on the topic ‘ Corporate Governance’ to all the B.Com ​ learners . The aim was to make the learners aware about the good and bad Corporate Governance and also its importance. The orientation took place through posters and 5 mins session in each class.

One day Industrial Visit for B.Com learners to ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust’ was organised on 11th February, 2020 with 58 students specialising in Export Marketing. The aim of the visit was to familiarise learners about export procedures and to make them aware about custom formalities and various functions taking place at the port.

A Collaborative course “Salesmark” with Department of Botany was initiated on 23rd February 2020 for 30hrs -15hrs for practical and 15hrs of theory. The aim of the course was to teach the marketing skills, culinary skills and food preservation to the students to add to their employability.

Department conducted an Add on Certificate course in Retail Marketing in association with University of Mumbai. The duration of the course is one year that aims at developing the employability in the Retail sector. The learners from degree commerce benefitted from the course.

Annual Report Academic Year-2019-20

nd ‘Plastic Recycling Activity’ was organized on 22 ​ June, 2019 in collaboration with Pandit Deendayal ​ ​ Upadhyay Smriti Manch, using a unique reverse vending machine which crushes the plastic bottles and converts them into plastic fibre to make T-Shirts, shopping bags, tents etc. Shri. Vinod Garg, National Vice President, PDSM interacted with the leaners and spoke about this ​ vending machine as a solution to the plastic menace. Posters on “Save the Mother Earth” and “Hazards of Plastic Waste” were prepared by the learners of various departments. A total of 300 learners participated in this activity.

th On 25 ​ July, 2019, a Guest Lecture on ‘Rainwater Harvesting’ was delivered by Mr. Shubhajit ​ ​ ​ ​ Mukherjee from Mission Green Mumbai. It was attended by 155 learners. Mr. Mukherjee spoke in detail ​ about the Jalshakti Abhiyan of GOI, Tree Plantation for Water Conservation and the various techniques that can be adopted for Rainwater Harvesting in the Urban Areas.

st Poster Making and Article Writing Competition was held on 1 ​ August, 2019 on the theme ​ ‘Transportation Challenges faced by Mumbaikars’ and ‘Save Water, Save Life’ respectively. The learners ​ ​ ​ showcased their creative streak and expressed their ideas through Posters on Rainwater Harvesting, Water Pollution, Farmer’s Suicides due to water scarcity & importance of Tree Plantation to conserve water. The articles covered a variety of issues relating to space congestion, passenger overcrowding, bus frequency problems, potholes etc.

On 13th August, 2019, a Career Guidance Guest Lecture on ‘Geographic Information System’ was ​ ​ ​ conducted by Mr. Pranav Raut, Director, Mahi Geoinformatics Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. He explained how ​ ​ ​ the accelerated growth and development prospects in India have encouraged several industries and businesses to use GIS and Remote Sensing which can be used in the field of agriculture, irrigation, transportation etc. Scope of Geo-informatics, Remote Sensing and Global Positioning System as a career choice was shared with 75 learners who attended this programme.

One day workshop on ‘Ecofriendly Ganesha Idol Making’ was organized on 27th August, 2019. ​ ​ ​ Ms. Chitra Mhaske, Ms. Suvarna Bange & Mr. Shankar Zavir from ‘Paryavaran Dakshata ​ Manch’, Thane (West) were invited to train the learners. A total of 87 learners participated in this event. The learners used their creative skills in designing beautiful Ganpati idols using ecofriendly sadhu clay.

An Intercollegiate Competition, ‘Paryavaran Mitravat’ was organized on 27th September, 2019, based on ​ ​ ​ the theme ‘Jungle Safari’. Variety of competitions like Quiz, Short Film Making, Pot Painting, Just a Minute & CL-ACL war were held. Around 200 participants from various colleges like St. Xaviers, K.J. Somaiya College, Nirmala College, Dalmiya College, KES College, Bal Bharati College etc. participated. Nirmala College won the ‘Best College’ trophy. The learners got awareness on the aspects related animal cruelty, habitat of wild animals, saving trees etc. Impressive short films made by the participants, based on plastics hazard, saving mother earth and sustainable development were screened.

Street Play was presented by 12 learners in the college campus on 29th and 30th September, 2019 ​ ​ ​ conveying the message on the dreadful consequences of plastic usage. The slogan ‘We say No To Plastic’ was hard hitting to the audience who then took an oath to not accept any single use or disposable plastic henceforth.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a ‘Clean-up Drive’ with 190 learners was initiated on 2nd October, ​ ​ ​ 2019 at BMC Hospital, Thakur Village in association with the Sathya Sai Trust. A Guest Lecture on ‘Gender Sensitisation’ was organised on 23rd January, 2020. Around 85 learners ​ ​ ​ attended it. The Resource Person, Associate Professor Sabiha More, from Gandhi Shiksha Bhavan spoke ​ ​ on Gender Discrimination overcoming,Marital Relationships,Social Constructs of gender and the conceptions of masculinity and feminity. On 2nd March 2020, a ‘Tree Plantation Programme’ was organised in collaboration with Tree Sena, ​ ​ ​ Mission Green, Mumbai at Nandadeep Vidyalaya Campus,Goregaon.

A Guest Lecture titled ‘Mind, Matters And Leadership’ was delivered by Ms. Mamta Pandya, ​ ​ ​ ​ Entrepreneur and Art of Living Teacher on 5th March, 2020. Ms. Pandya advocated the importance of ​ prayer for Inner Peace, leading to Global Peace.
