“The VP league football match between North and Torrens will be played tomorrow (Thursday), beginning at 2.40pm. The match will be preceded by community singing, with old and well known songs, compared by Mr. Dick Moore, of 5AD. Immediately before the match, one minute’s silence in memory of the fallen will be observed, following by the “Last Post” and “Reveille,” sounded by buglers of a military band, which will play at intervals during the intervals. The gates will open at 1 p.m. The secretary of the league (Mr. T.S. Hill) asked today that people arrive as early as possible, to avoid the crush, and to have the correct change. Prices are 1/3 to the ground, 1/11 to the stand, children free to ground and 6d. to reserve. North and Torrens players will be at the training grounds tonight to receive instructions.”

“Leslie Thomas, who played for in Sydney in the 1914 Carnival, is back from the war and intends to rejoin the North team. He was a great wingman. A good joke is told about him. ‘Go it L.C.’, cried out a North barracker, and a friend asked him who was the girl he was calling out to. He thought he said ‘Elisie’. There was another Thomas in the team and Les was consequently known as L.C.” Despite his good intention Thomas did not play another game for North after returning from the war.
