THEATRICAL PLAY

“ELIZA” Going to the theatre is indeed an amazing experience , which has a lot to offer. I vividly remember our school visit to the theatre. It was awesome. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the play “ELIZA”. The lights went down and suddenly a man came on stage. He talked to us about the importance and benefits of the theatre , and mentioned some things about the play. The main theme of the play was simple but quite touching. There was a girl, “Eliza”, who was just a simple waitress, until she fell in love with Patrick. Patrick adored Eliza , but he was a sailor, so he had to travel a lot. However, that was okay ,until he had been given a mission to carry out, which included his going away for almost a year. Before he left, he said goodbye to Eliza and gave her his whole fortune. Eliza then gave him a small ring and a hat, which she herself had knit. That seen was most touching!!!! Eliza’s life went on with the money Patrick had given her. She set up her own business, a restaurant, with the precious contribution of her loyal friend -a most funny character- Freddy. After some time, they happened to meet another man, who seems to be cruel and violent, but is actually very sensitive and they hired him as chef. The plot then gets complicated. Patrick, in the meantime, faces serious problems and is on the point of dying. However, the scene ends with him lying on the ground. Nobody knows whether he will survive or not. A while later, one of Patrick’s friends appear in Eliza’s restaurant. He tries to persuade Eliza that Patrick is dead, but Eliza trusts her own instincts and decides to search for him. She sells her whole fortune, buys a ship and , along with her friends, looks for her loved one. Unforunately, they get captured by some Turkish pirates and she is given as a gift to a sultan. Everything is a real mess. Luckily for her, she meets up with her friends in a palace. As she is about to marry the sultan, Patrick appears. Everyone is astonished. The sultan is outraged when he finds out about the couple’s plan to get away. A scene of self sacrifice follows. Everyone seems willing to die in order to save each other. The sultan decides to let them live happily. What a lovely ending!! I enjoyed the play which was very interesting and fascinating. The actors acted in a great way and gave us the impression that they had passion for what they were doing. They were young and full of energy, performing their role perfectly. I truly suggest attending the play. It has a lot of hilarious moments and a worthwhile experience!!!!! By Eleni Anagnostou Γ1

INTERVIEW OF an actor, Fotini Tendolouri ( Eliza) from the play ‘ELIZA’.

 Did you have difficulty in acting your role right?

 Yes, yes I did.  How was your relationship with the other actors. ?

 It was pretty good. You really need to try hard to understand each other. But it is really worth it.

 Which part of the whole performance did you like the most?

 Oh, I was really touched when I heard that Patrick died. Actually, it was the most difficult part for me. I couldn’t get over it.

 What did you like most in that job? Is it as hard as everyone says?

 No, it isn’t. What I like is that every day I feel something different and I discover new parts of myself.  How do you feel when you are performing and the viewers applause you?

 Marvellous, I can’t describe it, it’s magical.

 What is the hardest part of your job?

 You have to keep trying for the best , until you have reached the ideal performance! That is the hardest part, believe me!!

At about 3 in the afternoon we went to the Cosmos shopping mall, where we had lunch, ate plenty of sweets and did some shopping. On our way back home , we stopped at the White Tower and enjoyed the beautiful view of the sea. Many people were taking a stroll and sitting on the grass enjoying the sunny , spring day. We took plenty of photos , ate an ice cream and ha a lovely time. We left Thessaloniki at 6 o’clock, and arrived in our hometown at approximately 9 o’clock. It was one of the best school trips we have ever had!!! By Giorgos Ntinopoulos A4

Our excursion to Delfi It was just 6.45 in the morning and the books had been replaced by mp3, food and video games. We were ready for the excursion to Delfi!! The distance was almost three hours. We slept, danced and generally we had fun. We stopped at Hani of Gravia, where Odysseas Androutsos fought with Omer Vrionis. When we arrived at our destination, we were really impressed not only by the glory of the museum of Delfi , but also by the number of visitors who were also there from miles away, who arrived there to admire our history. The museum was really sophisticated, there were many rooms with domestic utensils from the Ancient Greek period, jewellery, swords, shields and armours. Also, there were statues and exhibits from the Delphic oracle , and these were dedicated to Apollon. After that, we went to the ancient stadium and theatre. Every monument made us feel more proud of our country. It was time for lunch. Itea was the perfect place for a delicious meal!!! The waves, the air from the sea and the good food were what we exactly needed. We were ready to return, but no……. our trip hadn’t finished yet. A little, picturesque village would end this trip. When we came back to Trikala, we were really tired, but we were sure for just two things, that we had the time of our lives and we were proud for the greatest history of the world , OUR HISTORY!!!!!! By Georgia Gatzima

ATHENS On the 18th of March, the third class of our school went on a two day excursion to Athens . We set off at approximately 7.15, and after a long, six- hour journey, with a stop at Lamia, we arrived at the capital city of Greece. There we visited the archaeological museum of Athens and we learned many interesting things about ancient Greece. Even though we didn’t have a guide, we observed all the findings that were from the Myceneum , the Archaic and the Classic ages and were amazed by the majority of them(mostly from the statues and the Antikethera mechanism). At noon we visited Greek Parliament where we were informed of our regime and constitution. The guide explained to us the history of the neoclassical building, which was , initially, the palace of the first king of Greece, Otto. After a big fire, it stopped being a palace by the order of the Prime Minister, Eleftherios Venizelos. We were guided through the rooms of the huge building, as well as the room which is used by the Members of Parliament, who represent the Greek citizens. We walked at Constitution Square and were left speechless when we saw the changing of the guards in front of the monument of the unknown soldier. Later , we went to our hotel, Titania, where we checked in and relaxed for a while. At about 9.00 at night we went to the cinema and watched the Oscar awarded movie “12 years a slave” . The next day, we woke up really early and visited the magnificent museum of the Acropolis and, of course, the Acropolis itself. At the museum, there were many ancient findings and we were explained how the Parthenon came to be and the glory and pride it held during the “Golden Century of Perikles”. Afterwards we visited the Parthenon itself and felt the magnificence ourelves. We were also told the history of the Erecthion. This part of our trip was the most exciting!!!!! At noon, we visited the Mall of Spata, “Mac Arthur Glein” , where we had lunch and did some shopping. But, unfortunately, the moment that we had to leave Athens and all its beauties came. We were sad that it ended so soon, but really glad that we were given the opportunity to visit such a magnificent place, which is worldwidely admired!!!!!!!!!!! A most amazing experience that we will always remember!

Famous Aprils fools April Fools' Day, is celebrated every year on the first day of April. The day is not a national holiday in any country, but it is widely recognized throughout European cultures and celebrated as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other, both the jokes and their victims being known as "April fools". Today, we are going to search through the web, to find out jokes, held from famous brands-people, from 2013, since the 1st of April, 2014. Google smell ( 2013 )Google released google smell on 2013, which was obviously a hoax. Basically, what google did was to motivate its searchers, to search for their favorite things, and then, make them smell the screen, by telling them what the smell is about. For example, a dogs’ smell is sweat with a little smell of burned wood. Razer phone call mouse update ( 2013 )On 2013, razer, a famous gaming peripherals brand, released a new update, for the owners of razermice . The developers say, that the holders of these mice, after the update, could use their mouse as a phone or microphone device. Although it would be so good to be true, it was a joke. Smosh 1 hour Special Video ( 2014 ) Smosh, a famous youtube channel released a video, of the two channel stars Ian and Anthony, walking for 1 hour, making us wait and expecting that something could actually happen. The last 5 minutes, they revealed the prank, with a special way. You can still see the video on their channel. These were the most special April fools from 2013-2014. Hope you enjoyed it!!!

LIVING IN A PLACE WITH AN IMPORTANT TOURIST INDUSTRY Well, people who live in such areas have both great opportunities but also problems. On the one hand, one important advantage is the economic growth which means more job opportunities. What’s more, when you live in such areas , you have the unique opportunity to meet new people, to learn different cultures and make friends!! Last, but not least, you can enjoy the beautiful features of the place that attracts so many tourists, either it is by the sea or near an ancient monument. On the other hand, many of these places are being striped off their traditional characterisitics. Furthermore, sometimes the foreign influence is so huge that these places lose their customs and cultures forever. To sum up, in my opinion, it is up to the people of each area to assimilate what is useful and to reject what is not.

Are cities too noisy?? What can be done? Nowadays, people who live in big cities suffer from stress and psychological problems. Is noise responsible for these problems?? As a matter of fact, it is. Noise pollution affects both health and behavior. It can affect people’s psychology. Noise pollution can cause trouble, hypertension , high stress levels, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances and other harmful effects. Cities are very noisy. There is so much traffic on the roads today, that the noise is becoming unbearable. In order to reduce this noise pollution, strict limits should be fixed, concerning the noise emitted by engines from all types of vehicles. Violators should be severely punished- very high fines should be imposed, perhaps even vehicles be confiscated. But vehicles are not the only problem. Road drills, jet aircraft taking off, even merchants identifying themselves through loudspeakers cause terrible noise and should be prohibited . To sum up, I feel strongly, that campaigns should be organized to reduce this serious phenomenon. I hope the reader will understand and share my views!!

STEPS TO SAVE SOME ANIMALS FROM EXTINCTION Nowadays, a lot of species are endangered because of the human beings. But how can we atone for this problem? First of all, the government should inform people about these animals and students should be educated on how they should protect and treat them. Secondly, we could adopt one, after having certain qualifications of course. What’s more, the government could create more wildlife parks and shelter, where these animals could be protected . A good idea is to hand out leaflets, so that everyone could be informed. Furthermore, we could breed endangered animals in zoos. Last , but not least, organizing campaigns and introducing stricter legislation are good ideas , too. To sum up, I feel strongly that this issue should not be ignored, because it affects us too!

ARE FAMOUS SPORTS PEOPLE GOOD MODELS FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE TO FOLLOW? Nowadays, sport is very competitive. A lot of people, participating in a sport are emerged as talents. But are these talents good role models for young people? On the one hand, provided they are authentic champions, they set a good example to the young sports fans. They like what they do, they exercise on a daily basis and they keep fit. They eat healthy food, they try to achieve a goal in their lives , and generally speaking ,they set a good example for their fans. On the other hand, many sports stars are ‘fake’. They do not achieve their goal on their own. For instance, they use drugs to improve their abilities and to reach the top. What’s more, they use the media to achieve fame and popularity. To sum up, I feel strongly that, although sport stars try hard to achieve their goal, their character changes for the worst, when they reach the top.!!!

SCHOOL SPORT EVENTS During our breaks this year, our school yard looked like a huge athletic centre. In every corner children in teams, with a volleyball or a basketball, spent their time in pleasure, with the coordination of our P.E. teacher Mr. Sioutas. These activities were organized for two reasons. First of all, it was an effort made by Mr. Sioutas to make the students more creative and of course, reduce incidents of violence. Also during the school year, a hand and foot volleyball tournament for the boys, and a volleyball match with mixed teams were organized. Each team included four players. The students created the teams and gave them the names they liked. The winners were presented and applauded by the whole student community during the morning prayers. Generally, students adapted to the teacher’s rules and as a result there were no accidents. But the most important thing is that the whole event, according to the students, was really pleasing and they would be glad to have it repeated!!!!!!! By Georgia Komatsiouli VOLLEYBALL Many young people first play volleyball on the beach in the summer or in the playground with their friends. But this doesn’t end there. When you decide to join a volleyball team, you enter a world of excitement, happiness and fulfillment. First of all, you can make lots of new friends.

A training session offers you the opportunity to meet young people from other neighborhoods. Secondly, it helps you exercise and keep fit. Finally, and the most important of all, it is a sport which offers you satisfaction and self-discipline, two important qualities necessary to make you a happy person. Let’s all play VOLLEYBALL.
