Last Game: The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (6-10) defeated the Tennessee Smokies (8-8) by an 11-5 score in the second game of the five-game series at Smokies Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (1-2) earned his first Double-A victory, working six innings where allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Tennessee right-handed starter Duncan Robinson (0-1) took the loss, allowing a career-high seven runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts. The Jumbo Shrimp offense got off to a quick start with a five-run top of the first inning. Eric Jagielo brought in the first three runs with a 3-RBI double to give the Shrimp a 3-0 lead, and then Mason Davis and Poteet added RBI singles to grow the lead to 5-0. After Monte Harrison led off the top of the second with a double, Austin Dean promptly brought him home with a two-run to left field, his first homer of the year, to put the lead at 7-0. The Smokies responded with a two-out two-RBI double by Jeffery Baez in the bottom of the second to cut Jacksonville’s lead to 7-2. The Jumbo Shrimp added to the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, with a two-out RBI triple by Davis followed by an RBI single by Chris Diaz to grow the lead to 9-2. Baez drove in another run for the Smokies in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to put the score at 9-3. Dean continued his hot hitting in the sixth inning, a two-run shot to center field to grow Jacksonville’s lead to 11-3. It marked the third time in Dean’s career he had a multi-homer game, also homering twice in two games for Jacksonville in 2016. The Jumbo Shrimp set season highs in runs and hits in the victory, with seven of Jacksonville’s eight position players having multi-hit games led by Dean’s 3-for-5 performance with his four RBI.
