Study Visit 1 Fairfield Heritage Centre, Govan (by bus) Visit one of Clyde’s most imposing industrial buildings, the offices of the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd. Now housing a heritage centre and office space, the red sandstone building was designed by Glasgow architects Honeyman & Keppie and built between 1889-1891.

The wider shipyard is now operated by BAE Systems and we have been offered a tour of the working shipyard for 10- 15 delegates. Places will be allocated by a random draw (see Eventbrite to be placed in the draw; security clearance will be required in advance).

Study Visit 2 Waverley and Queen Mary (10 mins’ walk from Riverside Museum & close to recommended hotels) Visit two historic steamers, both with fascinating histories and interesting operational and conservation issues. Waverley (built A&J Inglis, 1947) is the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world and Queen Mary (John Brown & Co. Ltd, 1933, ex. Queen Mary II) is the latest historic vessel to find a home on the Clyde. There will also be the opportunity to visit the Clydeside Distillery, which is housed in the 1877 hydraulic pump house for Queen’s Dock (additional cost of around £11 which includes whisky tasting & is payable on the day).

17.15- Return to Riverside Museum via Premier Inn Pacific Quay 17.30 and Scottish Exhibition Centre station/hotels

17.30- Free time 18.45 18.45- Conference reception and dinner on board Glenlee, one Tall Ship 21.30 of the most atmospheric venues in Glasgow Glenlee

Enjoy some real Scottish entertainment with music and dancing from the Feis Fhiort Teenage Ceilidh Band, dinner (with haggis, neeps and tatties option) and a round of Auld Lang Syne at the end of the evening

The Forum ends at 5pm on the 15th, but there are many attractions in Glasgow and the surrounding area if you want to make a weekend of it!

If you would like to eat with other delegates on the evening of the 15th we can arrange tables at Mother India or La Rotunda (both close to suggested hotels), or recommend other places to eat.

There are a multitude of entertainment options for the weekend – music on offer ranges from Liam Gallacher and Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony on the 15th to the Australian Pink Floyd Show and Jazz at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the 16th. There is also traditional music at Glasgow’s famous Islay Inn with the band Parting Glass on the 15th as well as many regular music nights in the city centre. Comedy and Theatre includes John Bishop at the Pavilion Theatre, and Motown, The Musical at the King’s Theatre.

There is also much of maritime interest in the region, and the following attractions will offer free entry to UKMHF delegates on production of their delegate badges:
