Complied by Jessica Todd Two Southside residents were tragically killed in a mass shooting that took place at a FedEx facility on the southwest side of Indianapolis on April 15. Samaria Blackwell, 19, was a resident of Beech Grove. She graduated from home school last spring and was active in sports such as bas- ketball and soccer. Accord- ing to the Blackwell family, she was working at FedEx to earn money to help her ulti- mate dream of becoming a police officer. She had only Samaria been at FedEx for about two Blackwell. months and hadn’t even been there long enough to qualify for life insurance. The Beech Grove community held a vigil for Blackwell and the other victims on Sun- day, April 18. Jawinder Singh, 68, was a resident of Greenwood. He was one of four victims who were apart of the Sikh community. He had recently moved to the United States from India and was anxious to get a job and start earning money. He came to Indiana for a better life and better future. According to Singh’s Jawinder relatives, he had only been Singh. working at FedEx for a week and was excit- ed to get his first paycheck the day of the shooting. He was a father to two sons who currently live in India. The family is work- ing on getting them to Indiana to see their father one last time. Mayor Mark W.
