START/FINISH: Track junction, 1km above Whinhill golf Corlick Hill course

This circular walk takes you to the summit of the Regional Park’s most northerly 300m plus hill. You will pass near the location of a Roman watch tower as well as bronze age / iron age settlements. Clyde Valley views from Corlick Hill (303m/994ft) are fantastic.

Rough tracks and moorland. Some single track road. Map reading and navigation skills required.

Iron Age and Roman settlements are Gryfe Reservoirs: Completed in 1872 scattered across the Greenock landscape. to provide additional clean drinking water Look out for Lurg Moor Antonian Roman to Greenock following a cholera epidemic. fortlet and road, a fully-enclosed Iron Age roundhouse settlement and abandoned 18th, Birds: Look out for ospreys, meadow pipits 19th and 20th century farms. and fieldfares, curlews, crossbills, coal tits and willow warblers. The Views from Corlick Hill on a clear day are magnificent. One can see Dunrod Hill, the Clyde valley, the peninsula and to the

north the Arrochar Alps and Ben Lomond.

• The route begins at the track junction, 1km above Whinhill golf course [270 739]. Limited parking available at Killochend junction [267 734]. • Follow the track for 2km where you’ll pass Whitelees Cottage and an MOD mast before arriving at the foot of Corlick Hill [288 729]. • Cross the stile then make for the summit trig point. • Continue south east over the moorland for 1.5 km towards the foot of the reservoir. • Join the road and walk over the bridge towards Garshangan to the west end of the resevoirs. NB Map and compass skills are essential. • At the track junction turn right, cross the bridge The route can also be started from multiple and continue on the road for 2km returning to the points on the Garshangan Road. start.
