Our View Switching up Eagle morale How the mighty have fallen. Appalachian State University entered into Saturday's game thinking it would just be a game, but the Eagles made sure next time they would be ready for a fight. Georgia Southern is finally showing the football poise that once earned a national championship. The number one team in the FCS division lost to the Eagles 21-14 in overtime. After the other divisional results, the former number one dropped to fifth place. This is just the morale buster that GSU has needed from the past few years of mild results. Getting consecutive winning seasons would definitely give moral stimulus to What has seemed economy imitating recession. The outcome of several Eagles supporters could possibly rival that of the old glory days. With many family members who are ASU alumni and two cousins who are current students, this year's Homecoming game was as much of a family affair as an intense four quarters with overtime. I found remaining unbiased between plays to be somewhat of a difficult task, as I was sometimes literally within feet of the action. With this game being my first to shoot and being uncertain at the start of how to get my shots, I quickly learned that patience really is a virtue. As an Eagle fan,- watching the first half of the game was a challenge, but the second half proved worth the while. Luck was on my side as Darreion Robinson, no. 7, ran by me to the end zone to tie up the game, offering a series of nice shots for the taking. For the remainder of the game, the Eagles pressed on to hold off the Mountaineers' offense to take us into overtime. It was within these couple of minutes that the shots came like wildfire. As our offense lined up, I found a better angle near the corner or the end zone, which proved to do me well as Robert Brown ran to it, pigskin in hand, dancing in triumph. The only thing I didn't think of was, "Hey, what if the crowd decides to storm the field?" As I discovered shortly after ASU was unable to reach the end. zone, that's what the fans did. In a fusion of excitement and panic, I ran with the mob to the center of the field. This is what a Homecoming should feel like.
