The Avs will return home after tonight's game where they will host Dallas on Wednesday.

AVS & RED WINGS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Red Wings and Colorado's lone visit to the Motor City in 2017-18. This is the Avalanche's first-ever appearance here at Little Caesars Arena. The Avs and Wings split the season series last year with the home team holding serve. These two teams played five postseason series against each other from 1997-2002.

SEASON SERIES Nov. 19 @ DET Mar. 18 vs. DET

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs are playing back-to-back games for the fifth time this season, as they face the Red Wings tonight after losing 5-2 last night in Nashville. Colorado is 2-2-1 in the first game of a back-to-back this year and 1-3-0 in the second. Colorado will play 11 back-to-back games this season after also playing 11 in 2016-17.

NOTEWORTHY • Alexander Kerfoot had two assists last night in Nashville and has nine points (4g/5a) in his last six contests. He ranks second on the Avalanche and tied for second among NHL rookies in goals (7). His 15 points are tied for fourth among rookies. He tallied three straight multi-point game from Nov. 5-11, the first Avalanche rookie to accomplish that feat since Gabriel Landeskog did it from Feb. 24- 27, 2012. • Erik Johnson leads the team in average ice time (26:30), fifth best in the NHL. He leads the league in shifts-per-game at 32.4. • Nathan MacKinnon was held off the scoresheet last night but still has 15 points (5g/10a) in his last eight games.

TOP LINE SHINES IN WIN OVER CAPITALS Colorado's top line of Gabriel Landeskog—Nathan MacKinnon—Mikko Rantanen combined for 12 points (5g/7a) in Thursday's 6-2 victory over the Capitals at Pepsi Center. A look at the trio that night: • MacKinnon's five points (1g/4a) were a career high and the most by an Avalanche player since Dec. 9, 2007, when Milan Hejduk (6) and Paul Stastny (5) put up that many against the St. Louis Blues. MacKinnon's four assists were also a personal best and the most by a Colorado player since T.J. Galiardi had four helpers on Feb. 2, 2010 vs. Columbus. • Landeskog's hat trick was the first of his NHL career and the second by an Avs player this season (Matt Nieto, Oct. 24 vs. Dallas). Landeskog's first goal came 17 seconds into the first period, the fastest goal to begin a game by an Avalanche player since Feb. 15, 2009 (Ian Laperriere at Detroit, 0:16). Landeskog's second marker came on a penalty shot, the first penalty-shot goal of his career (now 1-for-2) and the first successful penalty shot by a Colorado player since March 6, 2010 (Chris Stewart vs. St. Louis). • Rantanen set career highs in points (4) and assists (3). He scored his team-leading fifth power-play goal of the year and now ranks second on the club with 17 points.

HOME, SWEET HOME Colorado is 6-1-1 at home this season, 6-1-0 at Pepsi Center (Nov. 10 OT loss to Senators in Sweden technically counted as a home game). The Avs have scored 37 goals on home ice (4.63 average), including 34 in seven games at Pepsi Center (4.86 average). Colorado's penalty killing unit gave up a power-play goal to Washington on Thursday, only the second one they've allowed on home ice all season (23/25, 92%). That snapped a streak of 20 consecutive kills at home. The Avalanche's power play has scored on 30.3% (10/33) of their opportunities at home, one of the top home PP teams in the league.

YOUTH IS SERVED The Avs are currently the second-youngest team in the NHL with an average age of 25.5 (rosters as of Saturday, Nov. 18).

25.2 Columbus 25.5 Colorado 26.0 Carolina

CLIMBING THE D CHARTS Tyson Barrie tallied his 200th career NHL point on Oct. 28 against Chicago, becoming the sixth blueliner in franchise history to reach that milestone. With 205 points, Tyson is now three shy of tying Rob Blake for fourth place among franchise defensemen.

275 John-Michael Liles 259 Adam Foote 253 Sandis Ozolinsh 208 Rob Blake 205 Tyson Barrie 200 Mario Marois

VARLY, VARLY Semyon Varlamov made a career-high 57 saves on Nov. 2 against Carolina, the most stops by a goaltender in Avalanche history. He broke his own mark of 54 saves set on Jan. 6, 2015 at Chicago. It was the second-highest saves total in franchise history, as Quebec's Ron Tugnutt turned aside 70 at Boston on March 21, 1991. Varly's 57-save effort was the most in a HOME game in Avalanche/Nordiques history and the most saves by an NHL goaltender so far this season.
