Citybus and NWFB Building the Largest Euro 4 Bus Fleet for Hong Kong

More New Buses to Serve the Public Starting Lunar New Year

(6 February 2008 – Hong Kong) The environmentally conscious and (“NWFB”) bring an exciting news to citizens at the start of the festive new year! More brand new Euro 4 double deck green buses will be serving busy corridors starting the Lunar New Year to enhance the air quality of Hong Kong.

In 2007, Citybus and NWFB invested HK$100 million to acquire 28 brand new UK Dennis Trident Euro 4 double deck buses, becoming the largest Euro 4 franchised bus fleet in Hong Kong. Ten of these new buses have started serving Citybus West Express Routes B3 and B3X since last December, and the other 18 new buses will be serving NWFB routes in phases starting the Lunar New Year. Having completed the stringent bus body construction process, the first two NWFB Euro 4 buses will be running Route 112 between and So Uk. The other 16 new buses will be gradually in service by end of April to replace the pre-Euro buses, bringing a more comfortable and refreshing bus journey to commuters.

Equipped with the most advanced Selective Catalytic Reduction (“SCR”) technology, the Euro 4 buses, which are the greenest bus type in Hong Kong, bring emissions to the most stringent local standard. By applying the most advanced Selective Catalytic Reduction (“SCR”) technology, the Euro 4 engines not only can sharply reduce the particulates in emissions, but also help transforming nitrogen oxides in emissions to harmless water vapour and nitrogen gas, through a chemical reaction by injecting a metered amount of AdBlue (Urea Solution) into the exhaust system. The following table compares the emission performance between Euro 4 and Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3 engines, respectively.

Euro 4 vs. Euro 1 Euro 4 vs. Euro 2 Euro 4 vs. Euro 3 Particulate Matters ↓94% ↓87% ↓80% Nitrogen Oxides ↓56% ↓50% ↓30% Hydrocarbons ↓58% ↓58% ↓30% Carbon Monoxides ↓67% ↓63% ↓29%
