1.0 GENERAL SITUATION

The NEOC has been activated as of 0800HRS this morning. Similarly all EOC’s in the Western Division and all Disaster Response Agencies at the National LEVEL AS WELL AS THE Divisional level in the Western Division. Continuous rain has caused wide spread flooding in the western division from Rakiraki to . The extent so far is expected to be worse than that of January 2012.

2.0 WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE FIJI GROUP

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre at 7:30pm on Friday the 30th of March 2012

A SEVERE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR MAJOR RIVERS, STREAMS AND LOW LYING AREAS IN THE WESTERN DIVISION.

A STRONG WIND WARNING IS NOW IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF THE FIJI GROUP.

Situation: A shallow tropical depression TD17F was located southwest of Nadi at 6pm today. It is gradually moving towards the south and not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone over Fiji waters. Associated active trough of low pressure continues to affect the group.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Severe flooding of major rivers, streams and low lying areas in the Western Division. Elsewhere, flooding of low lying areas. Strong north to northwest winds with average speeds of 35 to 55 km/hr with momentary gust to 85 km/hr over western half of Fiji. Elsewhere, fresh and gusty northerly winds, increasing to 35 to 50 km/hr with gusts to 70 km/hr from tomorrow. Rough to very rough seas. Further periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms. Outlook for SUNDAY : Further rain and thunderstorms.

For Navua / Suva / : Further periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms. Outlook for SUNDAY : Further rain and thunderstorms.

For Nadi / / Ba : Severe flooding of major rivers, streams and low lying areas. Further periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.

6.1.1 FIJI ROADS AUTHORITY

The following roads are closed to traffic due to flooding. Western Division; parts of Queens Rd from Korolevu to Lautoka; parts of Kings Rd from Ba Town to Rakiraki. Northern Division; parts of roads closed within Labasa area. Central/Eastern Division; parts of Kings Rd from Naqia Bridge to Wailotua and part of Nasau Road in Koro Island.

6.1.3 WATER AUTHORITY OF FIJI

BA, TAVUA, RAKIRAKI & SIGATOKA -All pumping station is not in operation. -No inflow to treatment plants. -Limited available water in Reservoir for Hospital.

NADI & LAUTOKA - Inflow to Nagado dropped -Reserve supply to hospital and airport. -There will be high expectation that there will be no supply of water and low pressure.

6.1.4 TELECOM FIJI LIMITED

-No report has recieved.

6.1.5 POLICE

- Report of 1 causality from Lomolomo Community Hall, Evacuation Centre. Deceased transferred to Lautoka Hospital.No name has been taken or confirm. - Also reports of break- in at the Navutu Industrial Area (Lautoka) during this afternoon.

6.1.6 NATIONAL FIRE AUTHORITY

DISTRICTS OPERATION RAKIRAKI Attend to fire in Rakiraki Town this morning

TAVUA -90 families were evacuated to Tavua Community Hall. -12,000 litres of water refilled at evacuation centre

LAUTOKA 96 families being evacuated from their homes. Places like Lovu, and Matawalu,etc.

SIGATOKA Members of families being evacuated

BA 2 families evacuated and rescued

6.1.7 RFMF

- Most residence in Lovu, Bila, Naviyago and Drasa area (flooded areas) has been successfully evacuated to Evacuation Centres. Most have been transferred from Lovu Sangam to Lautoka Primary School. - Matawalu flats still flooded. - 1 RFMF officer manning security at Lautoka Primary School

7.0 PUBLIC ADVISORY

The first public advisory was issued at 1800hrs advised the General Public to take precautions of the trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain that lies slow moving over Fiji. This was also carried out continuously throughout the day and through all languages in all radio stations.

People living in low lying and vulnerable areas in the Western division are strongly advised to move to the nearest evacuation centre or to higher ground

Flooding of low-lying areas is to be expected for the whole weekend.

8.0 OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS

The General Public is advised to be alert of the high tide around midnight tonight.

Teams have been roistered to monitor and coordinate emergencies needs from the Divisional and District EOC’s.
