Scholarships for UH Hilo Students from , FSM &

Applications and additional information for most of the scholarships below are available on the International Student Services website (http://hilo.hawaii.edu/studentaffairs/international).

1. National Government Scholarships – FSM, Palau & the Marshall Islands offer national government scholarships. Deadlines: June (FSM & RMI), and July (Palau).

2. FSM State Scholarships – Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap states in the FSM offer state government scholarships. Deadlines are typically in June of each year.

3. Palau College Access Challenge Grant Program ‐‐ Must be a Palauan citizen; enrolled in or accepted into an accredited college; and maintain full‐time status during the period for which scholarship will be applied. Deadline: July 31.

4. Palau IP & E Scholarship – Must be studying biology, pre‐med, chemistry (teaching), marine biology, math (teaching), economics, pre‐law. Deadline: July 31.

5. APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship – $2,500 per semester scholarships for up to 10 UH Hilo students. Deadline to apply for the Spring 2014 semester is October 11, 2013. Visit www.apiasf.org/aanapisi.html for an application.

6. Pacific Islands Development Bank Scholarship – $1,000 scholarship to a student seeking education and career opportunities in accounting, economics, finance, banking or related fields. Must be a citizen or legal resident of Palau, FSM, or CNMI; be at least a third year or junior student; have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7; and majoring in business, economics, finance or banking. Deadline: August 15.

7. Rotary Club of Pohnpei ‐ FSM – Any FSM citizen who is a high school senior or a currently enrolled college student will be considered. Scholarships are limited to $500 per semester. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 must be maintained to qualify for continued scholarship funds both semesters. Deadline: July 1.

8. Pacific Islander Scholarship – Citizens of Palau, FSM and the Marshall Islands who demonstrate academic merit and have financial need are eligible for this scholarship. No application other than the FAFSA is required.

9. Alec & Kay Keith Scholarship – Citizens of Palau, FSM and the Marshall Islands who demonstrate academic merit and have financial aid are eligible to apply for this scholarship. College students should have a minimum 2.7 GPA. Applicants must complete a FAFSA in addition to the scholarship application. Deadline: March 1.

10. Mildred Towle Scholarship for International Students – For students pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree at any UH campus. Eligibility requirements include a) classified full‐time student who has completed at least one semester at any UH campus, b) citizens from US territories are eligible, c) academic merit as demonstrated by a GPA of at least 3.0, and d) some degree of financial need. The online application is available in January and the application deadline is in March.

11. Stars of Oceania Scholarship ‐‐ Undergraduate or graduate students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above are eligible. Financial need is a criterion in making this award. Apply using the UH System scholarship application form online at http://www.hawaii.edu/finaid/scholarships/system/index.html. Deadline: March.

12. Heyum Endowment Fund Scholarship ‐‐ $3,000 scholarship. Applicants must be indigenous to the islands of , Melanesia or Polynesia and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degrees at any UH campus. Eligibility criteria include academic performance; potential to make a contribution to the student’s country of origin; and need for financial support. 13. Faliuwseuw Endowed Scholarship ‐‐ Provides support to students from Fais Island, Yap State. Recipients must be FSM citizens who were born and raised on Fais. Students must have financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. The amount of the scholarship is based on availability of funds.

14. Yap Sport Scholarship ‐‐ Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded, one for a female and one for a male student. Applicants showing a leadership role in organizing or running sporting type events for communities and youth will be given higher priority.

15. Virginia Pearson Ransburg Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship ‐‐ For students from the former Trust Territories who intend to pursue a career in education. Students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program at UH Hilo are eligible to apply. Apply using the UH System scholarship application form online at http://www.hawaii.edu/finaid/scholarships/system/index.html. Deadline: March.

16. Asian & Pacific American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) ‐‐ APIASF awards scholarships, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, to hundreds of exceptional Asian American & Pacific Islander students with financial need each year. Deadline is January. Visit www.apiasf.org for more information and an application.

17. CariPac Scholarship ‐‐ For FSM students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in agriculture and natural resource management, food and nutrition, and related science, technology, engineering and math fields. Deadlines: June for fall; October for spring.
