Joining superstar international DJ Mark Ronson are global anthemic hitmakers, Rudimental DJ and Glasgow’s collective soundsystem, Mungo’s Hi Fi. With two number one albums and three number one singles already under its belt, including debut ‘Feel the Love’ and ‘These Days’ ft. Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen, Rudimental has sold over 20 million singles and over 2 million albums to date. The DJ band brings these hits alongside tracks from its current critically acclaimed album, ‘Toast To Our Differences’, written as an emphatic celebration of difference and a coming together of cultures, styles and sounds, to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. The album is the product of the band’s past three years of work and boasts an extraordinary list of collaborators including; Rita Ora, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Chronixx, Eli Ingram, Hak Baker, Maverick Sabre, Olivia Dean, Protoje, Shungudzo, Kevin Garrett and Raphaella. Completing the Hogmanay in the Gardens line up, with an international DJ hat trick is Mungo's Hi Fi, the Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit who pull off that rare trick of making reggae/dancehall that is original and of quality. Created over a decade ago by two likeminded DJ’s, which has now grown into a collective global operation with six members: all committed to spreading their philosophy of serious, seismic productions plus easy-going democratic dancehall fun. So far they’ve released nine albums featuring this ensemble of talented artists, including: 2009’s Sound System Champions, 2015's You see me star and 2016’s No wata down ting and collaborated with Jamaican legends such as Sugar Minott, Ranking Joe and Johnny Clarke to contemporary artists like Eva Lazarus, Charlie P, Kenny Knots, YT, Solo Banton, Parly B and Marina P. The full programme for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay including the Torchlight Procession, Street Party, Ceilidh Under the Castle and Loony Dook is now available via edinburghshogmanay.com Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, directors of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said; “Rudimental have had some of the biggest chart-topping tracks from the last six years and we simply cannot wait to create a new unforgettable moment for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay when thousands of partygoers belt out the band’s absolute anthems together on the 31st December. Glasgow’s own collective soundsystem, Mungo’s Hi Fi are really going to get the party off to a proper start with their unique blend of seismic productions plus easy-going democratic dancehall fun.” “Mungo’s Hi Fi, Rudimental and our headliner for Hogmanay in the Gardens, international superstar DJ Mark Ronson. Underbelly also produces Christmas in Leicester Square, Udderbelly Festival in Hong Kong, West End Live in Trafalgar Square for Westminster City Council and the Society of London Theatre. In 2018 Underbelly sold over 1.5 million tickets to their various events. Mungo’s Hi Fi Mungo's Hi Fi are a Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit who pull off that rare trick of making reggae/dancehall that is original and of quality. Mungo’s was the brainchild of two likeminded DJs at the turn of the millennium, inspired by the free party scene but following the Jamaican tradition of King Tubby and Prince Jammy. True to reggae/dancehall’s DIY ethos, they built their first sound from speakers found in a skip and began producing on an old Atari. They started inviting visiting vocalists to their regular nights in Glasgow to hold the mic and then join them in the studio. Following early recordings on London’s Dubhead records, including debut album ‘Mungo’s Hi Fi Meets Brother Culture’, they founded the Scotch Bonnet Records label in 2005. Today Mungo’s is a global operation with six members: all committed to spreading their philosophy of serious, seismic productions plus easy going democratic dancehall fun. Highly collaborative, they’ve worked on remix projects with Kahn and Prince Fatty in the UK to Major Lazer in the US and are currently expanding links with East African Records based in Uganda. The vocal collaborations go much further, from foundation Jamaican legends such as Sugar Minott, Ranking Joe and Johnny Clarke to contemporary artists like Eva Lazarus, Charlie P, Kenny Knots, YT, Solo Banton, Parly B and Marina P. So far they’ve released nine albums featuring this ensemble of talented artists, including: 2009’s Sound System Champions, 2011’s Forward Ever, 2013's Brand New Bangarang, 2014’s Serious Time, 2015's You see me star and 2016’s No wata down ting. All combine a keen sense of history with a wicked creative streak and some industrial strength drum ‘n’ bass. Like their inspirations, Mungo’s believe in testing their music where it matters: at their hugely popular parties and events worldwide. A sound system, a production house and a unique way of doing things - Mungo’s Hi Fi are always looking for new collaborators and people who share their vision. It’s a vision based on taking music more seriously than yourself and pushing forward while never forgetting where you’re from. .

We are thrilled to Wwelcome you to this stunning part of the globe which in so many ways typifies the world today: Here you’ll witness the height of commerce, a diversity of people and cultures, the engines of finance, and the apex of technology and communications. At the present moment, there is no better place than this historic but thoroughly modern Asian city-state to convene lawyers working for a better world. We come together this week to engage in thought-provoking discussions, to learn from our peers, and to push all of our thinking forward so that we can collectively grapple with the world’s biggest crises, from the climate emergency at our doorsteps, to the masses of people on the move around the globe, to the disastrous effects of economic globalization for some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable. At PILnet, we envision a world in which law works for all. We welcome you all to share in this vision with us this week as we explore the ways that we, as lawyers, can advance a pro bono publico mission. Over the next few days, we will focus on the many ways to engage lawyers from across the legal profession to protect and advance the needs of vulnerable communities around the world. It is an opportune moment to do this.

The traps were set not to capture animals but to capture people. Anansi had been captured and could not get away, no matter how hard he tried. Anansi longed for his yams, a shaded place and his soft bed as he stumbled with the wooden devices that he associated with cattle and not with men connected at both his hands and feet. Strange men pushed he and the others. Men yelled words not understood, men that were not from his tribe, not from his village. He could not figure out why these men attacked his people. They had no treasures, no borderlands of interest, no rich soil to plant in. Why had these men come to take them away? The walk was long, sometimes they walked in shaded areas but most of the journey was done directly beneath the hot sun.
