 High usage of private car, in particular at the less densely populated areas of Almada  Cultural issue: most commuters still see PT as a less valued option  PT system, although better, fails to address all of user’s needs (extent, flexibility, timetables, price and tariffs...)  Many people have little / no information about the feeder systems

 Almada City Council has more than 15 years of experience implementing policies on transport and mobility  Important actions implemented in the scope of the European Mobility Week, the Green Week, participation forums, projects with schools (namely through the Children’s Agenda 21) and EC co- financed projects  Objective: Increase people's awareness of the need for the adoption of behavioral patterns compatible with the environment preservation of values and sustainable development

Development and adaptation for SMARTMOVE of already implemented active measures, with proven results based in Almada’s experience:

 Trips for trash (try-out PT) in the Pragal train station (ex.. during Arbor Day in 20/3)  Citizen audits and personalized advice (TRANSPORLIS website and route planner, focused on feeder system)  Update of PT Guide of Almada (paper and internet)  Adaptation of the “welcome mobility kit” for new residents  Awareness actions for PT operators

1st Take up seminar  Krakow, Poland  21st January 2015 Fixed route rail system  Operator: Fertagus (private)  Serves a population of ~516 000 people in the south bank and ~547 000 people in Lisbon  14 rail stations (all equipped with P&R and B&R)  Line extension of about 54 km  Service from 5:30 02:00. In peak hours train frequency is10 minutes  Responsible for about 80.000 daily commuting trips (about 25% of customers stopped using private car)

1st Take up seminar  Krakow, Poland  21st January 2015 Fixed route bus feeder system  Operator: SulFertagus (40 buses)  ~5,4 million passengers 2013 (96% also used the rail service)  27% of Fertagus customers used the Sulfertagus feeder system to access the rail stations  Selected for AMC campaign: Line 1P between the rail station of Pragal and Sobreda, serving ~43 000 people  Line 1P: 99 000 vkm and 499 000 pkm (5% vkm and 3% million pkm of whole SulFertagus network)

AMC campaigns to start in March/April 2015

Development of surveys before and after the AMC campaign (important for assessment of user’s needs and also for evaluation & monitoring)

~28 000 people (total catchment area), ~3 000 – 4 000 people (areas 1 and 2) Target group: everyone, but mainly

1st Take up seminar  Krakow, Poland  21st Januarycommuters 2015 using Pragal train station  Residents in catchment area receive a letter at home (possibly together with February’s edition of the Municipal Newspaper), presenting the SMARTMOVE project and inviting them to participate in the project’s survey regarding the use of SulFertagus feeder system  People that show availability to participate should respond to the survey (either through online survey or questionnaire through door-to-door survey), receiving a small gift afterwards

1st Take up seminar  Krakow, Poland  21st January 2015  After survey results and segmentation phase, people who require further information will receive a “welcome kit” adapted to the SulFertagus feeder system with timetables, free tickets, PT guide of Almada etc.)  Selected participants for active measures will undergo personalized advice and citizen audits, in order to improve the knowledge and level of the SulFertagus feeder system
